Apparently, ADD/HD aren't even legitimate conditions.

: sometimes, skin picking and nail biting and things like that are a compulsive behaviour rather than a habit. This doesn't mean you have OCD, but it does mean you shouldn't feel bad for not being able to stop. It's called dermatillomania, I think, and some people really struggle with it, others less so. Robot Hugs is a great webcomic I'll recommend which has some great educational strips on the subject.

: Before you dismiss a condition which people came here to talk (and I assume gain support) about, could you provide us with some evidence or source material on this? I have ADD and like all other sufferers, was diagnosed by a medical doctor, specifically in my case a pediatric psychologist. Is there anything behind your (let's face it, hurtful and dismissive) claim?

If you mean "real condition" in the sense of "objectively visible", like, say, chicken pox; then I urge you to consider the vast majority of psychiatric disorders (of which ADHD is one). While most conditions do indeed correlate to differences in brain function which are visible on scans, this technology is expensive, unreliable, and useless for diagnosis. We measure these conditions by the effect they have on people's lives and functioning. Telling people their condition isn't real is just like telling someone they are not trying hard enough, and trust me; we really get enough of that.

Ironically enough I just discovered after spending over half my life with ADHD, that I no longer meet the criteria for it as an adult. That said, the results for the test were weird and they are wondering if there is another learning disorder that I may have? Either way, it warrants further testing. It makes me wonder if I ever actually had ADHD. I definitely had the symptoms as a child and I struggled with social interactions (and still sometimes do) to the point that I sometimes wonder if autism was involved on some level.

Anyway, I can definitely vouch that ADHD (or whatever I have/had) was a struggle.

Don't you forget about me~
