It should have been automatically added to your bases. If it's listed on the page as a selectable base, then that means that you've already got it as a base. You can go to regular (and back to the zombie base!) whenever you want now :)

We are looking into it and trying to find a solution, taking the site down wouldn't solve anything.

We're still looking into it - we haven't pushed any code changes that would have made a difference here, so it's unclear what is suddenly causing it.

It sounds like you've got the base of your avatar set to one thing, and a hex (progressing zombie strain) set to another.

Guys, if you are being reinfected automatically please post on the board posted below. That is the correct board. I am going to lock this one up since this issue is resolved.
