Is it possible to have the option to disable/enable the forum signatures and images?

My problem and probably of others, is that sometimes in one page there are a lot of gifs, and it's slowing down my computer or even worst, makes my browser not responding, and I need to shut it down and open it again..

And tbh sometimes it's just makes my brain hurt to see the same gif doing the same movements..

Please don't be offended by my suggestion gifs users "^_^

Huh, I could have sworn there already was an option to disable forum images, but I can't seem to find it. Was there one on the old forums? I can't remember...

In any case, if it isn't already an option, then I'd also like it if there was one. People do have cute and funny gifsets and whatnot, but sometimes I just want threads to load quickly so I can skim posts.

I could have sworn there was an option for this already. Gifs don't bother me personally (has a gif signature herself oops), but I can see why other people doesn't like them. This'd be a nice option to have :)

Custom CSS

Removes images in signatures and the side .forum-image {display: none;} .forum_signature img {display: none;} .forum-image-tb {display: none;}

Completely removes the signature .forum_signature{display: none;}

You may come across someone who manually inserts a gif or image into their posts.

They did this what, last year for Masq, if I remember correctly - just the event forum had sigs and images removed. I really enjoyed it as it sped up the proceedings quite a bit and yet still allowed sigs and images to be seen elsewhere in the forums.

Support for disabling sigs and forums in the event forum only.

I would actually really like the option to disable forum images and gifs. I don't have the problem much on Subeta, but in other places on the internet where people post gif-heavy articles it takes forEVER to load all of them fully, and it's a huge annoyance for me, so I can relate to others who maybe have to deal with that even on Subeta. And ON Subeta I was really annoyed when the forums were revamped and we lost our abilities to change the way our text looks, so I no longer see any point to be able to change my signature and forumset. (This is me personally, I'm not trying to speak for anyone else. That's just how I feel about it. I know some users use their signatures to advertise their shops and such, so I know others do actually have uses for them.)

For now I'll use the customCSS helpfully posted and maybe the customCSS means we don't really NEED the option, but I'd support an option to disable them anyway.

I can understand those that don't want to see forum images/gifs. I happen to use gifs, but I can remember having a super slow and laggy computer and how annoying it'd be that the page would freeze.

I support there being an option for those that don't want to see these.

Unfortunately that doesn't help load times. It hides the images so you won't see them, but they're still loaded with the rest of the page's content.

I don't have a problem with lag in general, personally I've taken to adblocking the gifs that I don't want to see. But I would love an option to disable them all together, I can definitely see using it for events and things (especially since everyone's kiss links are showing no matter the forum so I don't need to see kiss links in signatures to pass out kisses)

Oh yeah, I've noticed that.

However since it seems like it's taking subeta soon time to ever get the option, it's the best I can do to at least not have to rage at annoying gifs. No, I don't want to look at superwholock gifs thankyouverymuch. lol

I'd prefer signatures weren't removed completely, as this is how I try to adverstise my commission shop via the forums. If you have it disabled, you won't know!

Personally I hate gifs in the forums, so I've resorted to blocking everyone I see with my Adblock.

I'd prefer we /not/ have gifs (not images) allowed, but whatever. To each their own. I deal with it. :)

By "gifs", I meant images saved as a .gif file in order for them to be animated. :) I feel like Subeta items don't really count (well, unless they're also animated and super obnoxious like that beating heart thing ugh but that's a whole different issue). But you insert Subeta item images using the item= scode. MAYBE they should make it so that the forum signatures don't allow inserting images with .gif at the end. Like mine is just a regular image. It's either a .png or .jpg, I don't remember... so that would be fine. But if i was all like "Hell yea I'm gonna be super annoying and put a flashing space cat in my sig" that would obviously require being saved as a .gif (otherwise all the layers would be smooshed), hence NO DICE, GRANDMA. NOT ON THESE FORUMS.

Omg I should probably go to bed.

I definitely support disabling them on event forums at the very least. We should have an option to disable signatures. I get some people advertise their shops and other things in their signatures, but it's not like people automatically pay attention to other signatures if they're enabled anyway. I for one don't read other peoples' signatures. xD Too lazy haha.

Yes, please. They stretch out the page and it's really distracting when I'm trying to read a post, having something flashing and waving in the corner of my eye.

I'm all for disabling forum signatures. Though I shamelessly advertise with mine, if I just want to see what people are actually saying on the forums, or if someone else does, by all means let them have that option. I suspect only a relatively small amount of people would use it anyways and even then likely not all the time. Though I guess that's not exactly a good argument for having it to begin with. Still I'd like the option :P.

Even though I probably won't use it I'd like there to be an option. Personally I block every headache-inducing gif I see with AdBlock but some people change their signatures so often to new gifs so I might be tempted to turn signatures (or at least images) off completely.

There are also options such as Gif Block for Firefox (and I'm sure similar extensions for Chrome) for people who just hate seeing gifs. Animations can also be disabled via settings for most major browsers but that would probably end up being more of a pain than anything.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

I totally support this idea. For me, it's not about lag times or my computer freezing on gif heavy pages. For me, it's really more about my potential ADD when I'm reading the forums. It sort of goes something like this:

I'm in the debate forums reading a particularly interesting and lively debate and all of a sudden I see "OMG there's a cute kitty cat riding the back of a magical unicorn whose pooping rainbows and Skittles. That's freaking awesome!"

"Must get back to reading debate and forming potential arguments in my mind that I'll never post"

"OMG cute kitty...unicorn...pooping rainbows and Skittles"

"Debate, arguments"

"Cat poop unicorn skittles"

"Debate"

"Skittles"

"Debate"

"RAINBOW UNICORNS!!!!!!!!!"

So basically, that's why I'd really like the option of turning off gif signatures. I honestly can't focus on what I'm reading when there's something flashing at me out of the corner of my eye. I have to check out the flashy thing and then come back and read and then go back to the flashy thing again. I'm sort of like a magpie with a shiny object. Or gollum.
