We're watching this discussion, I promise. The hardest part is figuring out what we do about raising the cap and seeing the people who've saved up a ton of EXP since hitting the cap just... spending that exp and hitting the new cap in twenty minutes.
We've had PvP before and the last time it was up for testing (before our dev servers exploded and we lost all of that work) people didn't find it very compelling. This was during the beta of the "new" battle system (when we removed things like reflection) and I just don't think there is actually enough complication in our current system to really make PvP fun. I could be completely wrong, though.

Because this is how it used to be, and the top battlers complained that there was no content for them - and if we did release things for them it was so out of the reach of 99% of the people who play the site that we were releasing opponents for literally ten people who could beat it.
With a cap we have a physical end of the road so that we can make opponents around the tiers.
I'm interesting (again) in the idea of a phantom cap but I still don't actually think it's a solution for all of the problems of the BC which are that it's incredibly complicated, there are too many different icon types, and nothing actually interesting about the end game. :|

Like I said - I'm down to make changes. I just don't think I've heard anything here (or other places) that makes me think that the phantom cap is the right move.
Is it because you don't have anything to do right now and at least training would be better than that? Is it because you just like training more than what you have available? Is it because you want to see bigger numbers even if at some point you eclipse everything and bigger numbers are just that?
Like, help me understand why a phantom cap would be better for you :)

I hate the event bosses, I wouldn't point to them as anything other than horrible design :P
I see what you're saying, though. It does suck for the people who are the most invested in battle to be stuck in place while we try and let every else catch up.
Would a good / fun / interesting at least temporary thing be for us to finally release a tool for you to reset / reallocate your stats? We've also got the "new" battle quests ready to go, they just haven't been pushed (I want more prizes).

I think it's incredibly complicated for a new user to pick up and learn how to get past the first few opponents, what weapons are useful, and how to quickly move up through the ranks.
With PvP I think that the system is too simple. There are a few weapons that everyone would use (the same weapons we know everyone uses so we build challengers around them) and considering a lot of pets are taught to stat in the same way I just don't think there'd be any skill / real challenge involved.
I think you can have both ;)

This is one of the options we're considering. I am just fearing my house being burned down when we make a choice like this, but I agree that we need to do it sooner rather than later.

Haha minion battling is going to have nothing to do with the main battling.
I agree with what you're saying. I wish that challengers didn't have such a huge art requirement. Challengers are one of those "big art pieces" that require coming up with a concept and background, items for prizes, and the challenger art itself. For awhile we considered just using NPC art from around the site, but it hasn't really panned out because we'd still need prize artwork but tbh I'd be consider that again. I wish we could release challengers weekly but on top of all our other things, it's just not super realistic atm. :(
