: It is a [item2=Tropical Sand Dollar] and it is one of my favorites. I use it when I RP about Omen Island. I imagine that this is what the lee side of our part of the Island looks like.
thank you! I love the look, but then I am an island addicted anyway

: Monterey is the motherland of the sea otter. Penobscot, where my cousins live, is mostly us river otters. We do a bit more sneaking around and hiding in marshland. Still, it's hard for river folk not to love the ocean when the rivers themselves love it so much they spend their whole existence moving toward it.
In other news, I may or may not have a new stress fracture in my foot but at least I can say I made it into April before having to get my first set of x-rays this year.
Coda Caves are open.

: Although there are river otters in California, they tend to hang out near the Bay Area and Big Valley rivers then up here in the mountains where I live, so I haven't met any American River Otters. I have met a lot of California Sea Otters though. All Mustelid tribes are fascinating.
Penobscot River Maine? Wow...that's cool.
chuckles I'm loving the conversation between our resident weasel and otter. You guys rock!

: I didn't have any luck meeting river otters, either, when I visited California. It was just the sea otters, which was perfectly fine. Also there were a lot of seals and someone threw a starfish at me.
The Penobscot River area is sort of like a second home to me. I was really hoping to make it up there this summer but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
Edit: Oh hey! Forum point!
: Why would anybody want to throw a starfish? Perhaps it was one of those nasty seagulls that dropped it. There is a little docking area on the Monterey Pier where boat owners park their dories and skiffs down behind the shops and restaurants where Weldon and I go to meet sea otters. They come right up to you and talk to you.
What is fascinating about the California clans of American River Otters is their resurgence. They were abundant and were eagerly trapped for fur prior to Statehood. After the Gold Rush, their number were still plentiful in the Bay Area rivers and estuaries. But since about the 1960's their numbers declined markedly in California mostly due to habitat encroachment. Most experts expressed no real concern because American River Otters are not considered endangered, but their apparent absence in the Bay Area was still sad. However, it appears that the otters have learned to adapt to the humans and are rapidly repopulating the lakes and rivers around Oakland, Walnut Creek, and the rest of the bay. Way Cool!
