: Commercial walnut farmers prefer to have them fall, it makes it much easier to harvest. But they can be picked just as the green husks start to turn black and crack open. Generally, the nuts fall a week or two before the leaves fall. Put an add in your local Craig's List around that time, and you will be inundated with people looking for a paw out. Do you only have one tree? If you have several on your property, you just might have a little cash crop, selling to people who wouldn't mind picking a bag of walnuts for $5.00. Don't pick them green, they will never ripen.

Thank you for letting me know. Yes, it's just one tree. I'm glad to know I don't have to rush. I honestly haven't paid attention to the timing in the past, but with all this rain I have a bumper crop this year. The tree is just full this time.

Vans Warped was in Fresno in 2012, and we have the Rogue Festival in Feb. with street performers, bands, magic shows, and other really odd stuffs. I think the Fig Festival is next week....but we don't grow figs here any more....weird.

- I'm in a similar boat to you with the walnuts, only we have lemons. We have a Meyer lemon tree in our backyard and I never know when they're actually ripe because they're different than regular lemons and I don't know what I would ever use them for. We end up usually just throwing them out or some critters come around and take them.

: Meyer lemons are the best for making lemonade, lemon pies, or lemon juice for cooking. If you have a freezer, you can put the lemon juice you squeeze from the lemons into ice cube trays, freeze it, then put the frozen cubes into a freezer sip-lock bag for later use. In a recipe that calls for the juice of a fresh squeezed lemon, all you have to do is thaw one cube. You can even freeze the zest of the lemons for use in cakes and other recipes that call for it. The lemons ripen just before the colder months and are usually harvested just before the first frost. If your climate is mild, and there is no freeze, lemons can be left on the tree during the colder months. Pick when needed. Meyer lemons are less acid then other lemons and have a more fragrant flavor. I know some humans who eat them like oranges, but I don't like to do that. There are a lot of great lemonade recipes out there, but my favorite is 1 cup of lemon juice, 5 cups water, one cup of sugar ( more or less as desired ) and three crushed mint leaves. pour over ice and serve with a slice of lemon and a mint leaf. ( add vodka or spirits if desired )

I'm hoping that somebody can get some good out of them. For years there's been a very meager crop so I didn't bother with them, just threw them away when they fell. This year my tree is just loaded and I really want to see them harvested.

I really want to spend the day in the pool and never leave until summer is over.

I almost forgot it was Father's Day just because today also happens to be Claire's birthday. It almost feels weird thinking she is 26 when I sometimes still feel like she is 21, though I often times feel like I am younger than 24 as well, so it evens out there.
