I believe the main point was trying to get across was that the coding....sucks. But if we want to go into the customer service aspect of sites then I'd have to say subeta is seriously lacking in that department as well. I've had a ticket that lasted for a month and a half. The staff member in question couldn't fix my problem in that time frame, and asked me if they could lock the ticket and get back to me once they had it fixed. I waited close to 5 months after the ticket closed...and made the ticket again this time asking for the head of the UAs. They were able to solve my ticket quickly enough, thankfully. My point isn't to bash the staff member in question, but merely to point out there's always a bad day and people always mess up....that's only human nature. But you can't say OMG another site less than what 2 years old? is so much worse than subeta which is 10 years old? FR should be worse than subeta because subeta has had time to grow and work the kinks out.....well in theory.

But I agree with you, I don't think subeta needs to grow more....not at least until they can fix the site and make it able to hold all the users. Most of the people I recommended to the site and even a bunch of friends I met via subeta left because of lag/downtime/annoyance/boredom. I think what needs to happen is the site needs to get the coding complete before adding all these new shiny features because lets face it...subeta doesn't need them right now. What subeta needs is a proper revamp of the entire site...like what was talked about 2 years ago? I can't remember. Whenever keith mentioned hiring people to recode everything. I personally have grown bored with subeta and doubt I'd even bother to continue playing if it wasn't for all the money I dropped in cws/the friends I met, that are still here.

If a customer service representative told me they were unable to reset my password, no matter how old the site is, I wouldn't feel that my information is safe. COME ON, CUSTOMER SERVICE BASICS. Every single website on the internet that requires a password has a simple way to recover it, I can get it in 15 minutes from my ISP.

2006 SUBETA. Well, this is when I joined. Just after the 2nd anniversary, during Morostide 2006, if I remember right. Well, Customer Service was more direct than it is now, it was "contact a UA and cross your fingers they are not too busy" but I never got a "wait-eight-days-for-a-password-reset" wait in 2006. Or now.

Flight Rising also had a big kickstarter and was able to start from scratch programming wise in the year 2012 or whatever. We've got a lot of baggage. If we could raise a ton of money on kickstarter for a complete site rewrite I'd do it :P

Isn't, and correct me if I'm wrong, the password reset option right below the login area? It says something like lost password? Idk when this happened to your friend, but I got an...Idk what it is on FR news post about them having few ticket staffers and being busy in the past few months so answering them was slow? I agree though there is no excuse for 8 days of waiting for a simple password.

And you might not have had to wait for things, but others have. I know of other people who have had tickets for months, and their tickets aren't always resolved.

But I think this has gotten a bit off topic, since it's supposed to be about attracting new members, not customer service.

why not make a kickstarter page to get money to fix the coding/or something like it...I know there are other fundraiser sites that would probably fit better?

New member here, so I don't know if what I have to say matters, but....

I heard about Subeta through the Neopets tag on tumblr. Some girl was telling her friend how the differences between the two sites ( which I assume is why it showed up there).

I spent the 1st 3 days just confused. I swear my google history is full of "what does this mean","whats blah blah" . If Neo hadnt been just completely down, Idk know that I would have stuck around long enough to figure everything out honestly. Even just a small page detailing what there is to do each day, or explaining collections and whatnot would have been crazy helpful. Maybe make a topic where new people can come ask dumb questions? Because every where I looked on the forums all I saw was what NOT to do. It was extremely intimidating. I am personally a solo player, so I didn't like that I had to essentially have someone hold my hand for the 1st week.

One of the best things about the site, is the transparency. Want to know how to get an achievement? No need to go off site, the answers on the achievement page. You like quests? Cool because there's like 70+ a day to do here. They were difficult to find, until a nice user showed me how to personalize my side bar. ( Another thing that would be great for a newbie page). I enjoy being able to get on Subeta through out the day and by 10 PM there's still stuff to do.

The staff interaction, amount of things to do, lack of filters and childish rules are what keeps me here.

Also the fact that some of the more favorite Neopets premium account perks are given to regular users here.

This got a bit long but I just wanted to throw my two cents in from a new member stand point. :)

Do it. You know there would be some support. When it was brought up in a thread last summer there was support. Tax season is upon us and a lot of people will have some extra money coming in. Now is the time! Hands down right now I will donate to you if you throw up a kickstarter and the funds go towards fixing the coding.

Perhaps slightly off topic, but I feel what subeta needs to do is go back to basics. Judging from Keiths reply, the real issue is money. I think they need to look at what earns the site the most revenue, and what are the biggest costs - what are unnecessary - what can they cut - restructure the budget - in order to be able to invest more money in coding.

Most people on this board have mentioned bugs and lag etc as a primary concern. I personally agree. In order to retain members this is really where we need to start before scooping up a whole lot more. Once we have reached that point induction/welcome processes need to be clarified - just have a brainstorm session, try and think like a new user or even get a personal friend to start the site, sit with them, listen to what confuses them.

Only once these issues have been taken care of are we in a position to seriously recruit new members. Otherwise there is a low rate of retention and referrals are a total waste.

One problem that arises with trying to promote the site is websites and forums not allowing you to promote other sites on their boards. I recently put up a Subeta promotion thread that talked about the events, art markets, customizable avatars, pets, etc. on another website and it was taken down and I know that a lot of other sites are like this. You can get as elaborate as you want with the descriptions of the site but if you're not allowed to promote on other sites then it's not going to help.

Lots of sites will let you promote if it includes you paying to put an ad on their site, but who wants to pay to do that? I'm not gonna pay another site to put an ad up about Subeta just to get some referral points.

I'd like to see a tutorial type thing, something more official. Maybe one of those reminder events up top that tells you that you can do a tutorial quest? It could walk you through doing your first quest or quests, then help you spend that money to feed your first pet, even showing you where to buy some clothing or minions or something. Another kind of quest, then buy a basic weapon or something and teach folks how the battling system works?

Something formal and built in to the site that holds your hand for a bit and shows you some good starting places. And when you complete the whole tutorial, you get an achievement or an item or something, because newbies like to feel rewarded early. XD

YES. Let me throw money at you! If I knew that money I'm spending is going to coding and nothing else but coding, I will donate so much.

Turning off official post because this is way more personal than Subeta-y, but I've been a part of a few kickstarter campaigns (mostly doing with LGBT fundraising) and it's so disheartening to get close to the end and not reach your goal, and I'm concerned we wouldn't. It's really difficult to "choose" your goal correctly, and one project I was in missed it's goal by about $200 after it seemed sure they were going to make it.

Flight rising still has tons of faulty codes though. It does however take a lot longer for the site to break. The Nocturne event ended up in repeated site crashes, stalled venues on flight rising, etc..etc..

The big advantage that flight rising has though is that it is, as Keith stated, essentially new code, but their customer service is pretty atrocious though. Granted, it's a new site so maybe the customer service will improve, but it's not that great as is currently.

As for subeta in general, while I do agree with Sopheroo to a degree, I also understand that in general more people equals more revenue and at its core, subeta is a business. The bottom line being that they want to generate more users so they can generate money for the site itself, but at the same time I think that current issues with the site and how the backend code wise is fixed should be addressed first before massive influxes of new users comes in and possibly mess it up again.

That said, the site is a lot smoother now than it was in the past. The site used to crash completely for days on end if it reached beyond 1k users back in the day and while there is lag if there's a large influx of users using the site at once it hasn't been crashing as much and generally has been a lot more smoother overall.

I loved the buddy system idea. It could be added after the beginners walkthrough (even if the person close the walkthrough, they'll get another event saying about the "get help with real players" page, or it could be a random event that occurs like... always in the 10th visited page for the first week on Subeta. it'd really help people attaching). I had an angel that helped me in the begin, otherwise I think I'd hardly attach to Subeta: it's kinda hard to navigate and find places, to gather info about Token Shop, BHH and other places. It could also be a great idea to add info on the walkthrough that you can always find info about events in the forum, and you can always ask something in the Help threads.

  • I had the same problem than you: referred all Neo players I knew in real life, and none of them attached, only 1 entered more than once. (Another problem I found with my referrals is the fact that the entire site in english. I mean, portuguese and spanish are always the largest communities - at least in the games I play, like Neopets and Transformice. So it'd be great to call volunteers to translate the site, as well as adding a portuguese and a spanish forum).

(Totally agree with the kickstarter idea, and little rewards like special virtual items - that don't cost anything to create - and real life items for the higher donations would be awesome, as well as a Subeta store with plushie, vinyl figures and stuff in the future, because there are people who'll never spend money on virtual things, but they could spend on rl trinkets)

I'm going to be pretty honest here and admit that I was one of those people that made an account here and left probably less than a day later and didnt touch it again for about a year+ I'll state my reasons for not staying and my reasons for becoming active and giving it another chance.

I came here originally for a few reasons, I had heard this site was more mature (I got sick of being pinged on neopets for saying ass and other such words.. I'm not 12 anymore neopets, let me express myself!) and the other thing was Arvee! I had been playing around with the arvee HA dresser site thing for months and thought well why the hell not try the actual site.

So I made an account and I believe it was during Luminaire, I was so lost. I got a pet, cool. Then I got told to do quests? huh, why? arent you going to tell me anything else? whats that pet I just got for.. OH SOD IT leaves

So anyway I didnt touch my account for aaaaages and then BOOM arvee starts going down and I can't play around with HA's anymore :( So I came here to try again.

I'm so glad I did come back to try and have fallen in love with more then just the HA system. Maybe some basic guides would be good, people who have played virtual pet games etc have some idea of what they like so if you had a few links like 'how to colour pets' 'annual events' 'how to make money' 'HA help/tips' 'training and battling your pets' and so on

On a money note though, I'd love to actually know what makes the most money for subeta and I'm sure I'm not the only one.. I'm assuming its straight csc purchases/cash shop? but maybe if we knew better we could brainstorm more ways for you to take our moneys :P

[tot=wordless] 10-14 PET range items!
