When the prize that you get depends less on how much you did and more on how much others did, it's hard to just walk away. Which is why I'll add my support to solid goals instead of competition, too.

But competition is what drives people. If there was no competition, I KNOW you battlers would say something like "Oh, did my x damage already. That was fun. But now I'm bored while waiting for something else battling-related!"
You'd say that. I know you would. Do you see all the interaction between you guys? And the drive and determination to outdo one another? That's great. That is why these boss battles are fun. You can say you hate it all you want. But your actions tell a different story!

That was the first one to two hours. The rest of this is I've put too many years into all this to walk away hence death march. Which along with habit and needing something mindless to do after work sums up most of what I do anymore on this site.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I didn't start battling for the competition aspect. I don't even care about ranks. I care about winning shiny loot I otherwise wouldn't be able to get if I didn't have a battle pet. But if this is the way it's gonna stay, then there's really not much I can do except keep up. /shrug
