We can't. The cats might eat the fake needles and get intestinal blockage. Plus, many of them are quite flammable -- more so than real trees when they're cared for properly. Ironically, it's the fire retardant that can cause many of them to catch on fire from what I hear. We always have real trees.

we have a fake tree. we didn't put it up this year because of the move soon + new cat will probably knock it over. mine haven't showed any interest in chewing on the needles. from a quick google search I just did, neither trees are particularly flammable and are often not the first things to catch fire in a house fire, and the fire retardant artificial trees to resist fire for a period of time, but when they finally catch fire, they release toxic gasses. pretty much the lesson to take away is don't use a space heater unattended, and don't keep newspapers or paper bags laying around your house if that's what you're worried about.

I'll have to remember that in years to come since we won'r be having real trees any more.

next year we'll probably get a big tree since we'll have our house :)

Most likely fake. Real trees are a pain to clean up.

And if you cut your own, it really pisses off the neighbors… They STILL aren't talking to us.

you realize I live in a desert right? cutting down a full size saguaro = probably $50k in damages I couldn't really cut down a palo verde, woudln't fit in my house. not really practical here :p

It's rainy part of the year but our elevation doesn't support most evergreen trees. Except cyprus trees but those make bad xmas trees too xD
