What exactly do you mean by that? People are going to get in trouble for posting a link to their pet's page saying "hey guys what do you think, is this spotlight ready or not?" If that is the case I hope to God that all of us who have already done this are grandfathered in.
Can I just say, that comment has put me in a fantastically good mood, ? :D I hope the early stages don't prove too problematic, and that it is something that could be included in some way, shape, or form :D
On paper (well, on the screen :P) I like the sound of the upvote / downvote idea, but it could be hard to make it not turn into a popularity contest, especially if people are advertising it off site....
I'm heading offline now, but I'll go through the thread tomorrow and try to summarise some of the suggestions in the OP

I'm glad I slept on this because I regret my tone too.
However, I'm still not sure how elevating users will help others further. I agree that peer review is a good thing ('s post is so hopeful!), but I'm still not sure that all of Subeta is really truly mature enough to give and accept this kind of sensitive and constructive criticism without letting feelings get in the way, among other things.
I mentioned the clout part because of the comment about the PS forum group having none, which I don't think is necessarily bad. There does need to be more of a response in a better way, but I still have doubts about creating titles that aren't quite staff but aren't an average user either. (I'll stop posting on mobile late at night because I'm a bit flustered by this in the daylight. No hard feelings. 😅)

I think a good middle ground (for people like who feel the PS is too much about profile and not enough about other things) as well as for those people that want an upvote/downvote system would be: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - "Traditional" Pet Spotlight Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday - "Non-Traditional" Spotlight - this could be a cycling feature: some days it shows off pets with the most "likes," some days it randomly selects pets from the book high score, battle stat high scores, foods eaten high scores, etc. This way, we TRULY see more diverse pets getting put in a spotlight. This would also show off the hard work of individuals who don't have the money to get art/profiles/etc. It could also encourage people to work on other aspects of there pets. And maybe it would build up the community again. I am not sure if both types of spotlight should earn the same pet spotlight award, or if it should be a separate one? Dunno about that part, but I think it might be nice to show off more different kinds of pets.
I am also REALLY excited the checkbox idea is at least being discussed as a possibility. :) As much as having users give feedback is good, it just isn't the same as hearing straight from the reviewer "this is why I said no."
So we went from 'this isn't happening' to 'this is being looked in to' in a matter of a couple days.
While I find 's post promising, I find what appears to be a disconnect between staffers on how this is being handled a little worrisome...
I really like that idea - I don't think the "non-traditional" ones should get the same spotlight trophy, although maybe there could be a different one for that, seeing as it would be a different way that the pet was spotlighted?

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think it should be a separate trophy, but still count towards the same achievements. Like, it is still a pet spotlight winner, but these pets would still be distinctly different than "traditional" winners. Also, some traditional winners have high books read/stats/foods/etc, so the different trophies are pretty much a way of saying "I won because of profiles" or "I won because of other amazing pet aspects."
As more days pass with the new system, I start to like this idea more and more. I miss seeing new pets everyday! And now with the spotlight achievements having new tiers, it really is so much harder to reach them. :C
I like the idea of revamping the PS criteria to broaden the scope and limit the "follow these steps for a win" feel of some of the pets. At the same time, more variety in submissions means a learning curve and more work and effort for everyone involved.
However even though the system itself badly needs an overhaul, the kind of changes , , and , are talking about would elicit a huge uproar from at least those people who are used to/comfortable with/enjoy the criteria now, regardless of the discussion here.
Would there be a battle cry over new trophies, retro-activity, and overall change like there inevitably always is?

My pet just got kicked out of the queue and I'm going to give up since there was no explanation as to why. Dramatic, I know. But that's really how I feel about it all.
Of course they can give CWs a proper explanation when they're rejected, because oh, money makers and all. They can deny that reasoning if they want to but it's painfully obvious that this is an Avatar Dress Up Site With Pets Sometimes. Emphasis on the Sometimes. The main pet feature is extremely neglected.
People who have won in the past probably think its unfair that the spotlight would start offering explanations for rejections when in the past people had to struggle alone to find out the issues. Well I'm not that patient, sorry. That's why I'm giving up.
The spotlight was changed to only 3 winners a week because the queue of pets is getting low. Guess we'll all just wait until the queue has all the acceptable pets won and there's nothing left because everyone else is trying to figure out what they did wrong. Maybe then they'll start offering small explanations?
You're already reviewing the pet profile in its entirety, why is it that much more difficult or time consuming to provide a short explanation as to why it's not up to standards?
I do believe there should be more people working on the Pet Spotlight. The winners sometimes don't even follow on the rules for it and sometimes it seems like its glazed over. I think Jessi has a very full plate. Get that woman an assistant!

I've had 15 pets win the spotlight, and I'm still all in favour of some kind of tickbox response for why a pet was rejected - at the moment it's a load of guesswork (including for my pet Hermine, who did manage to win eventually, but caused me months of struggle to figure out just what was wrong that caused her to be booted from the queue so many times!).
Hopefully the meetings that mentioned will take place pretty soon, and there'll be some way of rejection reasons being able to be added in (after all, clicking a total of 5 boxes (for instance) has to be quicker than checking through a pet's profile five times just to find out that the reason you rejected it initially, still hasn't been fixed, right?)

Hopefully it gets worked on. Because when it's the fifth time, you just want to give up.
Surprised that such feature wasn't provided when spotlight first came out.
Well that's good to know. And I haven't even had 1 pet win ahh... BUT YEAH you would think this would be easier? When I work on my pet and I make it nominatable, it's because I already thought the pet was perfect. Because why would I let it be nominated if I didn't think so? Rejecting it with no reasoning attached doesn't help me. In fact it made me just put the pet back up for nomination without changing anything because I thought hey, maybe they'll change their mind this time. :P I don't know if anyone else is like that, but I'm stubborn and will just turn on nomination for the same pet without changing anything, again and again.
It makes me feel horrible when my best work is shot down with no explanation as to why. I finally broke down and begged for someone else to look at it and help me; I made some tweaks to it and the pet is already nominated again. If he gets kicked I will seriously be at a loss. There's nothing else I can do.
I have 5 winners, and I still support this. In fact, I hope we can get an update on this. Is this still being considered? Because this needs to seriously be implemented. And I agree that we probably need another staff member on this, since it seems like has too much to do as it is.
I am also curious for an update about the queue length. I have 5 nominated pets right now, and I am curious if the queue length had increased any since the change to only three days a week. Is the three day thing working? Is the queue still lacking? The idea was to eventually go back to five days a week, right? Is that feasible yet? The tiers for the spotlight achievement are pretty high to only have 3 chances a week to win (technically, since once you win you have to wait 2 weeks to win again, it is really only 1 in 6 chances, right? Not taking into account the number of pets in queue).
the worst thing is when you ask people for suggestions, and literally nobody can think of anything that needs changing - that's when you really start wondering if all the effort you put into the pet was worth it.
