I pulled over 120 items from the mystery box today and the highest rarity was normal.
Not a single rare item.
I have never had this happen before. Were rare items pulled from the mystery box now -- just like the higher rarity items were pulled from the vending machines? I would have several rare items if I had vended this many times -- even after the change when best stuff was pulled.
I pulled almost 250 items today and got one rare item, but the rest were all common/mundane...

Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.

According to SubetaLodge, there are 113 items in Spells Galore that are rarities 1 to 65 (Really Common to Normal)... There are only 47 items with rarities 66 to 99 (Rare to Super Rare)... Considering the sheer number of items in the 1-65 range and that 66+ are not supposed to be drawn very often, I am not surprised you aren't getting very many/any rare items from the Mystery Box today...
I don't think it is a glitch or an error. I think it is just the way they have the ratios set up.
Don't know about rare items, but the mystery box hasn't worked properly for me for a few months now. (unless they changed it to become completely unpredictable)
The price on the front page doesn't match the item I get.
Example. It says 'Price: 494', but then when buying I got this 'You've purchased a Wild Clover for 453sP!'. 453 is indeed the correct price for the clover, but doesn't match the price I expected to pay.
I would think other shops would have similar ratios, although that doesn't really matter. Even if they didn't, it wouldn't explain why I get multiple rare items out of the vending machines -- where the rarest items aren't even part of the mix, in a fraction of the attempts. I'm referring to only Spells Galore merch. (Although I see similar results in vending rare items regardless of the store stock the machines pull from.) It has me wondering if something is amiss in the way the box was set up.
SG is the only store I can think of where there seems to be such a huge gap between what you get vending vs. what you get out of the mystery box.
EDIT 10/9:
The MB today is AA -- and guess what? No rares are going out -- well, hardly any. It looks like they changed the formula for what MB gives out because it didn't screw us over enough to begin with. I am furious that they did this -- esp right before Morostide.
The box is worse when the shop of the day is Cavern of Curios. I really think it is a matter of the amount and rarity of stock. We get boards like this all the time and Keith has said that the rarities are working as they are supposed to.
I just tried the MB 5 times and didn't get a different price for any of them. o.o Are you using your browsers back button or are you clicking back to the box?

Back to the box I think.
I know that the site doesn't always fully refresh when going back either way, but this will happen on my first go there too.
I suppose I might try clearing my cache and hardrefreshing and then going there to check again. Will let you know if that solves it.
Thanks! That sounds like a really weird thing to happen xD

I'm not the only user seeing a difference in the way the MB is doling out rares. (If Curios is a problem, why not just skip it -- keep it out of the loop?) That the MB is supposed to be acting this way just means it was a deliberate choice to take away another thing I used to look forward to on this site. But hey, maybe I'm way off base and all alone in my reaction. Not everyone else in the world necessarily feels like I do. Let me ask the other battlers what they've been seeing and how they feel about it.
Cleared my cache, hard-refreshed and this is what I got:
Price: 996 You've purchased a Salvonic Pylonic for 1,494sP! (at least that time it was the correct item, different price though)
Click back to box, did another hard-refresh and got this:
Price: 1,000 You've purchased a Reverberating Pylonic for 1,401sP!
^^; I really don't know why this is happening.
I promise I am not trying to take away your fun! I am saying that according to the programmers nothing has changed. Believe me, like I said, I have to ask again every time the Cavern of Curios comes up. I am sorry that you are not having any luck getting rares at the Mystery Box. I wish there was something else I could say. I am just giving you the information that I have to go on. :(
If you like I can still make a report on it and see what comes up.
Very weird...I will see what I can find out!

I can try another browser if you'd like?
Like I said, I'm not the only user who has seen a difference in the ratio of rares coming out. Maybe the programmers didn't make a deliberate change, but it really seems to me that something is rotten in Denmark.. Anyway, I asked on the BC chat for feedback, so I guess we'll see if it's just a few of use who see something different/are having bad luck, or if it's more widespread.
Meanwhile, I'm off the MB while I wait for feedback. Bummer. I really wanted to stock up before Morostide.
Sad to say, it looks like the issue persists.
Started by disabling all add-ons and clearing everything(!) in firefox, tried the box, same thing, went back, did hard-refresh, tried again, same thing once more. :(
Even if this is an issue on my end, I'd just like to be able to properly use the mystery box again.
Thanks for checking I have put in a report and we will see what happens.

I had a few rare items yesterday and I know some other people bought a ton of items and got some rares as well. I don't know how the MB used to work but it was worth it for me yesterday.
Glad it was worth it for you, Sweetie. I hope you always have that kind of luck. :)
I didn't get a single thing. (Last month I got about a half dozen.) It appears that the rare ratio is less than .5% and that one can easily spend 100k or more and not get anything. Some people scored some things, but not like last month or the month before. There was definitely much less chatter about goodies coming from the box than there usually is on the chat thread. While I did stock up on basic potions and pylonics, it probably would've been easier to do that through the user shops, and cheaper to do it through AA.
