I haven't read Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson but I always recommend the Mistborn trilogy to anyone lame enough to ask my opinion! :))

I love Mercedes Lackey's world of Valdemar and is spot on for lovin' the Terry Pratchett Discworld series ((: I obviously love Brandon Sanderson, but Robin Hobb also did a terrific job with the Farseer trilogies and anything that takes place in that world is fantastic! :O

It's hard to choose a favourite! The last series I (re)read was the Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce. I was twelve the last time I read it, so there was a lot of nostalgia :D

Series would probably be the Harry Potter series. I love a bunch of other books and have yet to read a ton more, but I just love the HP world.

Yessss more Brandon Sanderson fans!!

I just discovered him a few months ago but I'm already in love. First I read the Stormlight Archive "series" (2 books are out so far, I think he's planning on a total of 10?). I just started the Mistborn series and love it so far, though not quite as much as Stormlight Archive. Eventually I hope to read all his books because I love his style. His world-building skill is amazing.

I also really love all the Ender's Game books, both the Ender series and the Shadow series. The Kingkiller Chronicles series by Patrick Rothfuss is pretty good too.

My nostalgic favorite has to be the Golden Compass series. I read it when I was about 12 and it's stuck with me ever since.

It's so hard to choose a favorite though. I've never met a fantasy series I didn't like!

I started out with the Mistborn trilogy and I enjoy the way he creates his systems of magic. He's such an adorable nerd, too. He plays Magic: The Gathering in his hometown, and when he travels he signs copies of his books that he finds on display at bookstores. ❤

<p>My nostalgic favorite has to be the Golden Compass series. I read it when I was about 12 and it&;s stuck with me ever since.
A coworker of mine recommended Rothfuss and I got maybe a chapter or so through before I found another thing to read. Not that the story wasn't interesting, but my attention span wasn't focused on it when I gave it a try. I've heard from other sources that it is a slow start, but completely worth it.

As for the nostalgia factor, I loved the Wrinkle in Time books by Madeline L'Engle as well as well as the Belgariad series by David Eddings...

You guys make me so happy! ((:

He has a few books from different series coming out next year and I can't wait! I haven't read Reckoners yet but it's on my list.

Yes!!! His magic systems are so unique. That's probably my favorite part, especially in Mistborn.

That is so neat! I feel like he would be a really cool person to hang around with for a day.

I read them...probably over two years ago now, and if I remember right it actually took me a bit to get into it too. But my friends (and goodreads) kept recommending it to me so eventually I buckled down and read it. It's not as good as anything by Sanderson but it's still worth a read if you like that kind of stuff.

The Yu-Gi-Oh manga, definitely. It's manga/comic and not prose, but they're books in a series, right? Eheh. I like it so much more than the anime.

Can. NOT. Pick. Just. ONE... (I have a top three which I consider to be pretty much equal.)

I started out reading straight romance novellas (my mother's Harlequin Presents to be precise) in my early teens and worked my way up to novels in my mid-to-late teens, but I stopped reading as much once I started really working on writing my M/M romance stories about 10 years ago...

I still don't really read much outside of straight romance. My favorite series within the genre are: Julie Ann Walker's Black Knights Inc. series (Modern romantic suspense + motorcycles + former military men... Yum.) The books in this series share a set of characters, story arc, and timeline... Often settings too.

Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker series (Paranormal romance... Featuring demons, vampires, lycanthropes, and more...) The characters are linked to each other, the stories are heavily connected, and the timeline is mostly sequential or contemporary to the other stories. There are certain places that re-appear in many of the books, if not all of them. She also has follow-up series connected to this first series, but I haven't had time to read any books from them yet.

Sandra Hill's Viking series (There's time travel involved so sometimes they are historical and sometimes they are modern. There is also plenty of humor, though I found the stories to be a bit hit-and-miss. I liked most of them though and loved the concept.) The stories in the series just shared a general timeline. I don't remember much overlap.

I used to read a lot more American historical romance stuff (Cassie Edwards and Bobbi Smith were two favorite authors) but I picked up a paranormal romance one day and I decided I like them better. When I read historical now, it tends to have a European theme, like Vikings... Or men in kilts... Honestly though, what I really really love is a tough guy male lead with a heart of gold. It's what I write, on some level, so I'd say that one influenced the other... But I couldn't tell you which came first... My picking books with that kind of plot or my foray into writing my stories that way. -shrugs bemusedly-

Discworld, definitely. I've yet to find one in the bunch that I don't like. I haven't read them all yet, of course, but I've read quite a few of them. <3 They always make me laugh.

“The Ephebians believed that every man should have the vote. Every five years someone was elected to be Tyrant, provided he could prove that he was honest, intelligent, sensible, and trustworthy. Immediately after he was elected, of course, it was obvious to everyone that he was a criminal madman and totally out of touch with the view of the ordinary philosopher in the street looking for a towel."

Donna Andrews Meg Lagslow series. It is a murder mystery series, but is really funny. One review that I read about it says, "There is a giggle on every page and a laugh in every chapter." I find myself reading mostly because her family is written so well. They are funny, off the wall, and while huge, I sometimes I wish I was apart of there family.

Another series that I love is The Dark series by Christine Feehan. I found here vampire series years before Twilight and they do not sparkle. Warning to anyone who wants to read it, it is a romance, they are about Vampires r=from the more recent times, so read at your own risk.

At the moment, mine is the Kingkiller chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss.

It's got just the right amount of magic, love story, sword fighting and intrigue. And almost a dragon. And very well written. The only thing wrong with it is I have to wait for the third book XD

Aw yay, a fellow discworld lover! There aren't any that I don't like, but I definitely have preferences for certain characters aha. Who are your favorites?

I've been meaning to read the mistborn trilogy. I read all the wheel of time books and loved sanderson's writing at the end. I'm waiting till I have less work though, because I have a feeling I won't be able to stop myself once I start XD

The good news is that I devoured them all, but I totally understand your problem. I have a tendency to start books around the early evening time before dinner preparations and then find myself staying up all night to get to a "good stopping point," which surprisingly never occurs til the very last page. :) My only advice is to not start his newest endeavor until you're prepared to wait for the current publications, haha. D:

I love Terry Pratchett and I agree that my favorite books all surround my favorite character circles. I love the witches, especially Granny Weatherwax, and DEATH is one of my all-timefavorite characters.. I love his dry sense of humo(u)r!

I like death and the witches, but I think my favorites are with moist von lipwig and vimes. I did appreciate the latest one where he mixed those two together ^^

Yeah, you've just confirmed my feeling that I should wait for this summer XD I'm glad to have something to look forwards to though!

And I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that XD XD

I'm currently a big fan of the Robin Hobb Tawny Man and Farseer series.

I'm also a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson! I have only read the two books in the Stormlight Archive, though. Haven't read his Mistborn series yet (but I got it for Christmas!) because I know I'll just need a few days where I won't do anything but read :P. I know that I need to start books in the morning or early afternoon because otherwise I will stay up wayyy too late finishing them.

[edit] Just saw all the posts about the Kingkiller chronicles. I also love those books (and the one about Auri!).
