When you're trying to establish lore for a world, that's kind of what you are going for. A standard canon. What you're describing sounds like fanfiction. Whether Major Drills is gay or not doesnt really have bearing on the Subetan world at large.. please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the question of Quentins gender remained unanswered for that reason?
that highlights my previous point so perfectly. That stuff is what belongs on site, not on an offsite wiki!
That where just seperate examples. I'm indeed more for fanfiction in that case than to astablish some stuff in the general world of Subeta.
The exemple about Major Drills as gay, triggers more my interests if I read this in a fanfic of where else, than Major Drills the big epic hero in some kind of war. I love to be supriced.
We could get together and write up some stuff and present the actual lore as a suggestion, and then edit it to staffs liking...like a separate forum for it maybe?? except only open to those who qualify as good writers/knowledgeable older members somehow
I think if you're willing to do the research, and read everything you can about existing lore, there's no reason newer members couldn't participate. The whole idea is kind of to attract new people to come play, look this is fun! no point in shutting them out.
I do think the Subetapedia needs to be filled in, but I would definitely hope that it would be introduced through the OP's second suggestion of tying new events to old lore. Just having a bunch of new articles appear and then reading them isn't a very interesting way of explaining something like an NPC backstory.

, That's true, maybe have a sort of quiz about subeta's existing lore and show a piece of writing to get in? That would open it to everyone^^
ooh, I definitely want to agree with your points about the cash plot. VIP access for PekaBoo didn't even work out. A lot of people (myself included) were pretty disappointed because it wasn't even gclearly explained. I can't imagine an entire cash based plot - how would that even work? 250csc per step?! 1k upfront to play? Can't see it going smoothly, and I think it would be better to use cash items/passes in an incentivized way.
I'm agree with , Please no CSC to join a plot. I hope it costs nothing or it costs onley some little sp.
, I support the idear of a quiz from the already existing lore. And more comming stories about places on Subeta are absolutely great.
Edit: Well, I guess the "Ping Friends" option doesn't work at all, so ignore this post. -__-
I think writing up for Subetapedia wouldn't be as interesting in the beggining, while things are getting fleshed out, but once the basics got some more work done, future mini plots/events would be based on that and then people would have a chance to get involved in a more interactive way c: That's why it's an investment - it'll help making things more fun in the long term!
I agree with having very longtime members helping on this, if only because there is some old lore that has been put out years ago and most people don't even remember or never learnt about! I wouldn't go as far as locking new users out, since there's a LOT more to be worked on (and brand new characters*/information, at that) but we definitely need some of the 8-10 year members on this.
*remember people shipping Connor and Elwood during the cruise?! XD That was super fun at the time.
I also agree that opening a topic on our own to brainstorm ideas probably wouldn't get very far, since it's a staff thing after all (they must keep, update and stick to that information). I would love to see a directed effort from them towards that, though! There are clearly many people willing to contribute as they can.
[edit] Contributions to the Subetapedia could also happen simultaneously to mini plots, of course. Like the food festival I suggested a while ago -- it was meant to be a small-ish thing (ok, maybe I got carried away, but still xD) for us to enjoy new food and learn more about Riverside/its characters at the same time. We could have something little happening in Darkside, Shadowglen, maybe something in the Arctic involving the SAI... "Summer in Subeta", shall we? xD
Lindsie, your enthusiasm is admirable! :) During a cruise quest, we visited each port and had to read histories. I did learn a lot of lore but the writing was uninteresting. I'm all for a rewrite as long as the rewriters are of the caliber of Alistaire Cooke. I rarely read the pet stories and feel sorry for the staff who have to wade through a bunch of drivel. If it's not great writing then silence is golden.
I was pinged here hun! :)

Ah, it does work! Thanks! It gave me no indication that it had. I had said, friends, how do you feel about this? Suggestions?
I think I am the wrong person to ask unfortunately. XP I kind of don't even understand what 'lore' means../. it means the story of.. kind of thing, right? And, I unfortunately am not much into anything but HAs.. but I'm a loser, don't listen to me. BUT, I do think... you have a great idea and are interested in bettering the site in some way. That is cool. And you're not just throwing out some random stuff, you are actually interested in what makes Subeta..'tick' kind of thing. You should be the staff member that they hire to do the job! ;)
Looking for
Haha. If only I weren't already busting ass climbing the ladder at work. (I'm getting there!) I wish I had as much time as I used to to dedicate to this site. I have the interest but don't have the time. I would love to write something. But I will stick to guides. ;)
Hi yes, your ping DID work!! :) (as you've already discovered) and I wanted to offer feedback. I read your opening statements and I think it's very well written and you've expressed many good points and suggestions. Maybe you could get involved with doing some of the updating, since you're a skilled writer (in my opinion) however, I know that you're also a busy person in your real life.
I think you're correct in saying that most ppl are very interested in stories and the specific lore of subeta. When I say most ppl, I think I'm referring to most ppl who are NOT my age--I'm not representative of most people here. I'm honestly not interested in lore on any pet-site. Why? Because computer technology is something that I NEVER had as a kid or young adult. I had stories, I had books and movies (before VCRs) so I had a LOT of stories and the fun of the fantasy world through movies is still a HUGE part of my life.
But for me, having a computer to play on is new and I want to spend my time here doing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with stories, and things that I never had the opportunity to do in the "dark ages" of my life, which started in 1955, lol. I don't do pet profiles or any of it. I like to collect things, read a LOT to all my pets, I LOVE to buy and sell and I love the events. BUT I am NOT the usual person who plays here. I don't battle, I know very little of the characters in all of subeta.
I think that you're right about MOST people being interested in the back stories and I know that most younger ppl I meet here are into role playing & would probably love to have more lore as well as (perhaps?) role playing that involves the characters of subeta.
So to repeat how I started out: I agree with your opening post (even if it doesn't fit for me personally) and I truly think that you ARE a skilled writer, so I'm wondering if that's something you would be interested in doing (as a hobby perhaps?) I have often heard that ppl who started something as a volunteer ended up doing it SO well that they were offered a job... I wonder if you'd thought of that. If subeta isn't able to hire a writer at this point do you think that you might be interested in doing some writing to contribute to the lore & then submitting it to Keith to see what he thinks?
From what Keith said last night they don't have the money for a writer now, and I think he said the creative staff are too busy with artwork and that none of them are writers.
Since I know almost nothing about the lore I would never be able to help with this. However I AM a good writer and if you ever wanted someone to proof anything give me a holler. I have the skills to edit things for grammar and sentence structure, etc. Good luck with getting others interested, I think you have a great idea!! :)
Ahh, thank you so much. :) We haven't spoken in so long! If there ever were a way to submit writings or ideas for lore, or something along those lines, I may give it a shot just to see what happens. I feel there are so many talented people on site that I know would love the opportunity.
You're very welcome. I know this is off topic but when I came here to post I was suddenly logged off the site. I wonder if that happened to anyone else. Things have been wiggy lately.
Yeah, we haven't spoken in a LONG time. I'm famous for hiding out and not talking much, for many reasons. I get obsessively involved with my projects. I have 11,022 unique items in a gallery that has over 88 thousand total items (down from over 90K). I'm slowly removing the duplicates.
I actually have a guest arriving soon, but wanted to respond. I have NO clue how to submit ideas to staff here. I watched Keith's talk last night and I truly admire him for all he's done with subeta. I have NO clue how to submit ideas, but he kept saying: "those are all really good suggestions" and then he would suggest that ppl submit them, but HOW do we do that?
Are we supposed to sMail him or where DOES one find Keith in order to submit suggestions or comments? I have no clue how to contact him. Tickets?
Well, I hope you figure out how to contact Keith with your ideas and keep up with your dream of updating the lore. I truly need to rest my brain before my friend arrives. We're going to have a movie watching marathon for a couple days. Movies are MY stories and I have a 56 yr "career" as a movie lover, since age 3, and I'm now 59 (scary). and I'm babbling as usual. It takes me forever to write a post because I have to rewrite it a few times to hone it down since the first stuff that comes out of my brain is usually WAY too many words, and still my posts are long!!
People in my generation never were encouraged to write in shorthand and nowadays you actually HAVE to in some places. Apparently tweets have text limits? I learned that from watching House of Cards on Netflix, lol. I have never tweeted!! :)
EDIT:
I just noticed that you said: "If there ever were a way..." so I bow down to you and I humbly say that you don't need anyone to proof your writing. I know VERY VERY few ppl who know to say: "if I were" or "if it were" (which I think is called future perfect tense). MOST people who are MY age (as well as younger) say "if I WAS" or "if it WAS" (both are sic) but most ppl have NO clue that it's incorrect to use the word WAS in that context and I'm getting so used to hearing people say "if I was" that I barely cringe anymore.
I was raised by the grammar police, but our world is SO full of poor grammar (newscasters, TV, movies, etc) most ppl are using SO many words and phrases incorrectly (and I used to cringe a LOT) that I am slipping. It's becoming common use to say (for example) "she can do that better than me" (that one still makes me cringe). People end with the word me all the time when it should be the word I. And then ppl say I in places were me is actually correct (can't think of an example though)
OK well I'm going on about things, as usual...lol.
Hello, Rah! As creative director, your opinion and thoughts on this would REALLY help.[/font]
I have always been for this. Years ago, talk of getting new writers was mentioned but nothing ever came of it. There is so much potential that is just being ignored.
