Yep ^^, thanks! I also love classic episodes- the Fourth Doctor ones are my favorite. I really likes the first two modern-series Doctors, but the Eleventh I've been a bit iffy on. I can't decide whether I dislike him or whether it's just Moffat that I dislike. I think it's probably the latter, though.

possible spoilers
He was amazing when he did The Empty Child and Blink, but then Silence in the Library... the ending was a mess. The Vashta Nerada kinda just disappear and that's the end of them, and the plot changes completely to this matrix-y thing. And then he took over, and I liked the first episode of Season 5, but it went downhill from there. I didn't really like the Ponds or River Song much, and Clara... I'm sorry, I just really don't like her. Her personality isn't developed well enough, I feel. It's like Amy, River, and Clara all have almost the same personalities. And that whole leaf story arc... that's just kinda dumb, in my opinion. "The most important leaf in the history of Earth-" I mean, come on... they could have come up with something better than a leaf. Oh, and he makes the Daleks and Cybermen seem like nothing. In "Dalek," a single Dalek went on a rampage and nearly destroyed a city. In Moffat's episodes, there are tons of Dalek ships out there, but somehow they never do that much harm to others, despite their instinctual desire to conquer the universe (because Davros is an idiot, making a genocidal race for the sake of making an impact on the universe).
Anyways, I have high hopes for Capaldi. I also think that this really gives Moffat a chance to define Clara's personality better- she said in the Christmas Episode that she travels with him because she fancies him, and now that Capaldi's here, I wonder how she'll react. And then, of course, we have an older Doctor, which will really change his relationship with companions.
And I agree with you- Donna is the best!

OMG YES THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT!!!

possible unpopular opinions ahoy I always felt that Matt Smith was likable enough, but I never LOVED him, and sometimes he could be TOO goofy. Maybe not even goofy in the sense of silly, but it seemed like The Doctor became a complete moron. But yeah, to be honest, in hindsight I think most of it has to do with the material he was given. Matt isn't the one who writes the scripts, he just has to follow them. :(

Don't get me wrong, The Doctor needs to be a bit kooky, but with Eleven it sometimes got to be too much at times. I like more of a balance. You mention Tom Baker, and he's a great example. He had moments here and there where he made a mistake or two, and his companions (mostly Romana, being a Time Lady and all) would point it out . But it wasn't ALL the time. Because most of the time, when the Fourth Doctor was acting stupid, the audience could tell he was doing it on purpose to mess with people. With the Eleventh Doctor, I felt like he really was that stupid. :P

But as I said, I think a lot of it has to do with Moffat. He wanted an idiot hero, which I personlly didn't like. The Doctor was too stupid at times, and in contrast, Moffat maybe him into too much of a wonderman immortal god that everyone is afraid of. Where all The Doctor has to do is mention who he is and everyone is shaking in their boots. I never felt like it worked as much as Moffat wanted it too. Something like that needs to be used sparingly. But according to Moffat this method seems to work on pretty much the entire universe so. :P

However I do have to say that I think Eleven improved when Clara came on board. I felt like with Clara he was written as less idiotic, and instead became a bit more heroic. Matt and Jenna also had wonderful chemistry. But sometimes I do wonder if I like Clara as much as I do just because she isn't a Pond. I really began to grow tired of them toward the end of their run. It felt like Moffat didn't really know what he even wanted to do with them. I also never liked River's development. I actually loved everything about the Library two-parter, and I felt that River seemed like an awesome character with a lot of potential, but Moffat never really brought her there for me.

But yeah, I was just glad all the Ponds were gone (except, I would have been okay with Rory staying, but we all know you can't have Rory without Amy), so maybe I would have embraced whichever companion(s) came next. Or maybe it's because I have a bit of a girl crush on Jenna Colman (I think she's cute as a button). lol

What I would love to see happen next on the show: bring in a companion that does not have their own plot and is really just there for the ride. Someone that is written in a way where they won't overstay their welcome. I would actually love for the Doctor to have a rotating cast of companions again. One comes, another comes, first one leaves, a new companions joins them, second one leaves, another replacement comes along, then we get a third companion, a couple episodes later one of the others leave, etc etc.

spoilers are cool I agree entirely with the first three paragraphs. When Clara came, I guess the Doctor did become a bit more serious. I just don't think she ever developed much. Same with River- she has that stereotypical sassy, strong-willed personality that most of Moffat's female characters have. And yeah, I liked Rory more than I did Amy. I was hoping for a better companion after they left, but I was disappointed. Clara seemed interesting at first, but once they got to the modern-day version of her, I didn't really like her very much. I think a rotating cast would be cool, too. They did that a little in the first series- Rose was there the whole time, Adam was there for two episodes before being kicked out, Mickey tagged along sometimes (not really in the TARDIS until series 2, though), and Captain Jack traveled with the Doctor in the last few episodes of that series.

SPOILER (click to toggle) I agree, Clara hasn't been given as much development as she could have had. But then, Moffat does that to a lot of his characters. He seems to like to shoehorn things in where they don't fit. Vastra, Jenny, and Strax are perfect examples of this. I mean, they're cool and all, but where the flip did they come from? Why does The Doctor trust them so much? How do they know so much about him? Why weren't they there from the beginning?

Moffat also did the exact same thing with River's backstory in "Let's Kill Hitler." He also did it again in the Christmas special with Tasha Lem and Handles.

SPOILER (click to toggle) I agree about the Paternoster Gang. They're just sort of random, and when they come on the show it feels like they're out of place. They don't make any sense to me. And yeah, where the heck did Handles come from in the first place? That confused me the entire time. I thought I'd missed an episode.

I am so happy to find someone who shares the same viewpoints as I do on Doctor Who. T_T

SPOILER (click to toggle) I also forgot to mention River's "death." The fact that she was already dead in the season 7 finale made me raise an eyebrow. Why were we not shown The Doctor turning up on her doorstep to bring her to the Singing Towers and send her off to The Library? That's kind of an important plot point. :/

I'm half way through the 3rd season and I'm loving 10. I really liked 9 too. His smile and wave made me laugh every time. But as of now, 10 is my favorite. David is just too adorable. I liked Rose and dislike Martha (she's too needy).

On a side note, I just bought an awesome tee shirt from ebay. It has the TARDIS and says, "Doctor's Apprentice" on it. I can't wait for it to arrive!
