OOC: Okayy! Here we gooooooo!

Nova looked around the streets as Juliet was on her back. It was already bad enough that her daughter had to see this outbreak. They've already survived for so long but now there was a small glimpse of hope that there were survivors but those chances were slim. "You know I wish there was a functioning car right now. We'd be a bit safer than we are now." Nova looked to her friend who was covering her from behind. "I know how you feel. I wouldn't want my daughter so out in the open either. Maybe there's a shelter around here." Luna let a sigh escape her lips before reloading her gun and turning around to shoot the two zombies running to them.

Nova knew in her heart that Luna was trying her best to be positive for Juliet but she knew in her heart that Luna was hurting. Her eyes scanned the building rapidly as her daughter let out a small yawn. "We'll find a place to rest okay?" Nova told her softly before she heard Juliet nod against her back.

"That place looks empty and we can take the room right by the balcony for a look out." Luna pointed to what looked like an abandoned complex. Nova let out a nod as the two dashed inside. Low moans were heard throughout the halls. "Be quite and try not to alert them." Nova breathed out quietly. The two made their way to the stairwell until they noticed some drifters. The town looked deserted except for the few infected they encountered when they entered the town so that gave them hope for a small place to rest. Nova took out the drifters quickly before running up the stairs and to an open apartment. Luna looked around the apartment quickly as Nova stood watch at the door. Some more infected were wandering the halls and could probably smell them, so they had to be on their guard. "Clear." Luna looked to her friend before taking Juliet and placing her down on the couch. Nova closed the door and started to place heavy furniture in front of it so nothing would be able to get in. "How are we going to get out?" Luna asked her friend quietly as Juliet was fast asleep. "We climb down or move the stuff. This does come equipped with a balcony." Nova looked to her friend before tucking Juliet in.

The two girls went out on the balcony and looked around the town. "By the looks of it there is a Walmart down the street." Luna pointed as the tone in her voice was now a bit melancholy more than the fake optimistic act she put on for Juliet. "One of us will go. I don't want to leave Juliet here by herself." Nova sighed as she opened up the backpack Luna had. She took out the rope and tied it to the railing. "I'll go. Just take the rope away and keep watch. I'll be back before dark." Nova looked to Luna as she was taking the two handguns that she had on her as well as the back pack on her back. Nova went into the apartment and kissed Juliet goodnight. "I'll be back my sweet." She whispered softly before going into the balcony. She took one look and could hear Luna singing, "Here comes the sun" quietly. With that Nova headed off to the Walmart.

It was early morning when the car ran out of gas. "Wonderful" Will muttered to himself as the car skidded to a halt. At least they weren't in the middle of know where, he was sure there would be plenty of cars in the town ahead. Will could already see a bell tower of a church over the small hill the car had failed to go over. He turned to look at his 16 year old cousin who sat next to him in the passenger front seat. "Charlie get up. Were out of gas." he said shaking her slightly. Charlotte's eyes blinked open, and Will could see the anxiety inside them. "Oh no" she whispered back looking like she was ready to cry. His cousin had always been a shy girl and though the zombie apocalypse had toughened her up a bit in terms of the crying part it had also succeeded in making her nerves worse. She had become extremely paranoid.

"What to do now?" she asked him her eyes wide. Will looked in the backseat of the car, ignoring her question. They had been running out of food for several days now and they needed to restock. "We have to abandon the car, it has no gas so I doubt anyone will take it. Grab the backpacks, and anything important in case we can't make it back." Nodding Charlotte did what her cousin told her too, got out of his Prius and started loading her light green backpack with four cans of food, the two bottles of water, one bottle of Gatorade and the few energy bars they had left. William grabbed the fleece blankets, flash lights, battery's, and the travelers guide to the USA he had found in the gas station they had rummaged through a few days back. He also grabbed their two most precious items; the hand gun and a box of bullets. These had been a lucky find, though not a very pretty one. They had found them in a house next to a man who committed suicide, along with the blankets. Besides that the house was pretty bare. William wondered if his family had taken the items before hand and he had stayed behind to take his life.

Once they got as much as they could out of the car, Will and Charlotte started heading over the hill towards the town. The cousins had learned from experience that undead could hear and smell very well. Only their sight was one of their great weakness among the fact that they could be outsmarted, since they had no working brains. After a 1 hour long hike into town, and a few close calls Will and Charlotte noticed a Walmart at the edge of town. "Will do you think it's empty?" she whispeard in his ear. Will looked at her, and then at the Walmart. "Only one way to find out. Come on let's go."

(Awesome! Sorry if my writing's not so great. I haven't roleplayed in ages.)

Walmart had been second only to Goodwill on his favorite places to get stuff before the outbreak. Now Walmart was one of the best places to get the things he needed. Chief among these things was food. He’d thought it was hard to manage his food budget. Now he was more concerned with not becoming a meal himself. “This bites,” he muttered and cursed under his breath. Great, he’d made it into Walmart, but damn if walking down the aisles didn’t make him paranoid. He held a baseball bat in a white knuckle grip. Of course he didn’t find a way to get a gun once things went to hell. That would have meant he’d had a stroke of good luck and he only got those when he was otherwise screwed. The coast seemed clear for the moment. He thought he'd seen some figures shambling around few aisles over but so as long as he was quiet he had time. He stuffed a bunch of granola bars into his backpack. Maybe he should grab some batteries for his flashlight? Probably for the best. There was often stuff like that near the front of the store. He could snag some on his way out.

bic: Will and Charlotte got into the Walmart without too much trouble. They had entered the parking lot, managed to avoid a couple of the undead by hiding behind various cars and snuck in through a broken back window. It was dark inside the Walmart and that frightened Charlotte who swore she could hear a rustling in one of the aisles. Will couldn't hear anything but it was better to be safe than sorry, so he made sure his gun was off safety. The cousins quietly tiptoed through the various aisles grabbing as much as they could fit in their small backpacks. They had a plan to check each aisle one by one. Will also hoped to find some sort of weapon for Charlie to use. Unfortunately people had seemed to been here before them and the food aisle was almost empty. Will grabbed the couple of things that were on the shelves and they started to head towards the medicine aisle.

(Thanks. I was worried I had gotten pretty rusty.)

Cadence double checked his supplies. Food? Check. Water? Check? First aid supplies? Check. He worked through a mental checklist. His backpack wouldn’t much more anyway so he ignored that perpetually nagging feeling that he was forgetting something. He continued on his quest for batteries. Much to his vexation there were none in the little toppled display. Greeaaat. He contemplated leaving anyway, but he was on his last few and it wasn’t a comfortable feeling not having a light source. He steeled his nerves and made his back towards the electronics department. As he crept through the store he spotted two figures. “Shit,” he hissed. Cadence stuck to his usual survival method: avoid the undead at all costs. Little did he know he was trying to hide from the living.

Nova walked in and let out a long sigh. She took out her flashlight and started looking her way around. First, a change of clothes for Juliet. Then she'd go to see if they had anything for close combat. Nova stuffed two outfits in the bag and hurriedly ran to where maybe they would have baseball bats. Though what caught her off guard was hearing a display topple over. "What the hell?" She questioned to herself as she picked up a baseball bat that would work. There had to be a gun shop in the town as well but right now this was priority number one. Next she made her way to the food isles. She could smell the rotting fruits and some flesh. Nova covered her nose as she wen to the canned items swiftly and quietly. Her hands started taking cans one by one and shoving them into her bag.

Behind a tall building, away from most of the zombies and where there was plenty of alleys, there was a man who could easily be mistaken for a zombie. Which was the plan, anyways. He had run behind this building, managing to keep quiet, to escape a rather large horde of infected. However they were still shambling around, he could hear them. Lucky for him, there was an already dead infected to help him get out of this mess. So he hefted the dead undead - ha, jokes - onto his back without a second thought, not caring if the guts did spill out onto his back and he seemed completely unaware of the smell. Nick walked out of his hiding area, staying somewhat further away from the infected, and slowly walking along. Right now he just needed to find somewhere that wasn't here. So his eyes scanned the area as he followed the road, not making any noises. Finally he saw a large sign, 'Wal-Mart'. One thing he had never really liked was shopping there, but it was better than being on a street with at least a hundred people who wanted to eat you. Or around the same, he supposed. As he kept up the slow glacial pace, more infected seemed to be forming closer around him.

Then a horrible raspy groan came from right behind him. Actually, right on top of him. The dead undead wasn't really dead and decided it did not want a piggyback ride anymore. Instead of screaming or instantly throwing it off, he took a turn down another alley, reached up and behind himself with a woodcutting axe and stuck it in the infected's head. He grabbed the axe from its skull, then put it back on his belt. Finally, he managed to reach the Wal-Mart, then crept in through the backdoor, letting out a small sigh of relief when he saw there was no infected here. He thought it best if he took a look around, pick up anything he may need in the future. Though other people had probably gotten all the good stuff. So Nick walked out into the large store, with blood on his back and front, completely pale, and not hard to mistake as one of the dead.

Yellow had somehow managed to find shelter for the time being. A small building that would have held a few survivors, if there was any. She'd climbed in and killed... one of them quietly, as not to alert any more to where she was hiding. From all the gunshots and the screaming she'd heard last... When was it? Last week? Who even knew anymore? Anyway, she knew not to make noise. The building was small and would been overcome quickly if they got wind she was here.

Pulling her jeans off so dumped some of the ice cold water over her legs and rubbed them carefully. A couple of cuts and bruises, but nothing major and nothing she couldn't pretend away. She looked at her jeans, the ends freyed and dirty. It was getting warmer now and although she would probably regret it, she took her knife and began to shorten them down. She needed to move fast now, and she needed to get rid of as much as she could without being ridiculous and freezing her arse off.

Clang

Instantly freezing, she hoped that it wasn't another one of those damed things. The loud crashing was enough to draw more of them closer to her. Rolling her eyes, she carefully pulled her now-shorts back on. Being able to move easier was a great advantage. She laced up her combat style boots and took a deep breath. She hated looking out the window because there was always a chance that one of them could be there.

Gripping her knife, she looked out the window quickly, taking note of everything and looking for the source of the noise. Just as she suspected; it was one of them damned idiots. It was walking around looking sorry for itself, scared even. A man, half his face chewed and the other half... The other half had dripped off from the looks of it. Probably walked into something somewhere else.

There were no others in site though. Yellow knew it was time to move on and this was the chance she had been waiting for. Even though it was night time- probably the most dangerous time to be outside- this opportunity didn't seem to come along too often. She knew from the limited knowledge of the area that she had, that there was a Walmart not too far from here, and a motel not too far from that. It would be easy to get to Walmart and pick up some tins and a tin opener and then hopefully she could get to the motel and have a decent nights sleep for a change.

Wishful thinking.

Pulling her backpack onto her back, containing the last shred of food she had, she took a moment and shut her eyes. What had happened and why did this have to be happening now? She'd narrowly escaped being made into... one of those things around a dozen times now. They were everywhere. They were people that she used to know and people that she maybe loved at one point or another.

Pushing open the door as quietly and slowly as she could. She always hated this part, the not knowing if it would finally be the day she got bitten by one of the rabid bastards. It was a chance she had to take though, a chance she was sure that everyone else was taking, too.

Moving silently as humanly possible, she slipped towards the idiot and mentally prepared herself. This whole thing had changed her. No longer was she the caring, would-hurt-a-fly type. She hadn't seen a person in so long... A living being... She hoped when she saw one, she would change back to the person she wanted to be- the carer. She was starting to think, though, that she was the only one.

Plunging the knife into the idiot's head, she felt relieved as it simply slipped down and stayed down. Most of them didn't die that easily, most of them put up a fight. For a second, Yellow wondered if this one had wanted to die.

Will- On their way to the medicine aisle Will saw a small figure bending over in a aisle throwing cans in a bag. A few seconds later he heard a loud bang coming from across the store. Charlotte whimpered and pressed herself closer against her cousin. Will nudged her along, tightening his grip on the hand gun. He wasn't sure if the loud noise was from one of the undead or a human, but he knew the small figure had to be another survivor. Will didn't quite know what he should do. On one hand another survivor in the store meant that the person could be taking valuable items that they needed to move on. On the other hand it didn't seem right to steal from another person trying to survive just like he and Charlie were. So after a moment, Will made the decision to move on towards the medicine aisle where they were originally headed. He hoped nothing else would fall though, racket attracted the undead like mice were attracted to cheese.

Charlotte- When they got to the right section of the store Charlotte and Will were disappointed to find that there was barely anything left. Charlotte managed to find Advil underneath one of the shelves, but beside that and a couple boxes of swabs there was nothing left. Her cousin gave her the signal, and they turned to head towards the next department; clothing. Charlotte was hoping to find as many clothes as she could. All she had were the clothes on her back; ripped black jeans, a ratty Northwestern sweatshirt, and a pair dirty purple converse high tops. Her underwear was even worse. The only thing that seemed to be in fairly good condition was the sterling silver necklace with a silver key her parents gave her for her 16th birthday. She missed them...a lot. Shaking her head, Charlotte rid herself of thoughts of her family. She hadn't cried since the crisis started and she wouldn't break now. The clothing department though better stocked then the food or medicine department was fairly bare. Will grabbed a pair of socks off the ground, while Charlotte ran towards the underwear department. Her cousin ran after her determined to not leave her alone, though looked away when she was going through a box of unmentionables. Charlotte couldn't find anything with her correct size in terms of bra's but she did find two sports ones and three pairs of panties that were either her size or the closest to it. Stuffing them in her bag she turned to her cousin and whispered "Lets try and grab a couple pairs of pants and shirts before we head to the next section."

Nova stopped as she felt watched. She turned her head and saw a glimpse of two figures walking away. If they were the undead they would of gone after her but they didn't. That meant they were survivors. Other people! That was the glimpse of hope Nova needed to tell Luna. There were others! Nova walked to the edge of the aisle and watched them both go to the clothes department. Nova made a mental note to maybe go after them. She turned around and went to where there was only a small supply of water left. She swiftly put them in her bag before hearing a grotesque moan nearby. Quickly her head turned and noticed the now undead running towards her. She grabbed her new mele weapon and swung at the head.

Once she had finished with that Nova moved on to the next section. Though she saw a zombie with a bloody back that was in her path. Quickly she brought the bat up and wacked it in the legs. To her discovery though it was a living person! "Crap! I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed quietly as she didn't mean to hit the human being.

(ooc: Oops I guess I wasn't very clear about the little display. It was knocked over when Cadence went over to it. He didn't knock it over himself. Oh well, I can roll with it. Also, I'm guessing Nova just hit Nick.)

Cadence managed to make it to the electronics department without further incident. Loud noises put him on edge and his earlier mistake wasn’t helping any. He should have his nerves in check by now. Much to his dismay, he wasn’t finding the batteries ne needed here either. C’mon surely there had to be some triple A batteries here somewhere. He scoured the area with increasing desperation. There! On the floor there was a pack. He thanked the god he’d stopped believing in out of habit and tossed them into his pack. Maybe he should get another hoodie before leaving too? He looked down the threadbare gore spattered one he currently wore. Not a bad idea. Even if it was getting warmer, he could always tie it around his waist. He darted from aisle to aisle, making his way over to the clothing department. He was starting to feel some optimism though. He hadn’t been this well off for supplies in a while. Nevermind. Optimism gone. He spotted figures among the racks. Did these unholy monsters have to be everywhere? Wait. He eyed them a bit more closely. Last he knew the undead didn’t look so shifty and certainly didn’t care about undergarments. Other people! He fought down the immediate desire to run over and start talking to them. How he missed non-cannibalistic human beings. Just running over there was bound to get himself shot or something though. How to be tactful about this… He couldn’t just shout at them. He whipped his head around looking for signs of the undead. None that he could see. He sighed, mustered his courage and walked into the open with his hand up and baseball bat hanging loosely from his hand. He walked deliberately in a way he hoped looked as far from undead as he could get. Please don’t shoot me. Better yet, please don’t scream and draw all the zombies over here to eat us. “Hello,” he called quietly. Was it sad to be this desperate for living company? Maybe, but dealing with all of this shit alone was starting to get to him.

occ: Yah company! :)

bic: Will nodded at his cousin and looked down at his own raggedy clothes. His blue jeans, long sleeve shirt and Nike sport's shoes were in really bad condition. He was starting to smell as well, as the cousin's hadn't been able to wash up since about four days ago back at the suicide victim's house. Thank god that man lived on a property that had a well with water on it. 'Well he did live in the country' Will mused to himself. As they were about to move to get some better articles of clothing Will heard a rustling coming from behind them. Turning around he grabbed Charlotte with one arm, pulling her behind him and aimed the hand gun at the rack. Shooting was not a good option, but when it came to life or death Will would risk the noise of a gun shot. He saw the figure stand up and walk closer to where they were standing. The closer it came, the more nervous Will grew. Then he realized he wasn't dealing with the undead. He was dealing with another human being.

Charlotte peeked behind Will's shoulder to see a young man with shoulder length light brown hair approaching them. He held a baseball bat in his hand, though it was not held threateningly. “Hello,” the young man called quietly, coming closer and closer. Will held the gun in the same position as before, out and aimed towards the man's heart. Charlotte didn't think he looked that dangerous though. What she really found interesting about him was not that he was a new face, with a new story and perhaps a plan on how to survive this horror of a world they lived in but that his eyes were two different colors. Charlotte had never seen someone with a green and blue eye before. Only a dog, a husky she petted when she was little. Was he the neighbors dog? Charlotte couldn't remind, just that his eyes were enchanting. "Hello" she whispered back, ignoring the angry stare her cousin was giving her.

Oh how wonderful it was to hear another person’s voice! He couldn’t even be bothered to realize how sad it was to be so overjoyed by this. Cadence’s immediate run away tactic had kept him away from both the undead and living alike. He stopped a little ways from the two so as not to get shot. He did lower his arms though since it wasn’t exactly comfortable. His eyes were trained on the gun. Smart folks to have gotten a gun. “Sorry to show up suddenly,” he said a little awkwardly, “but I wasn’t sure how else to get your attention. I just uh, well you’re the only folks I’ve seen in a couple weeks. I was wondering…well I’m not entirely sure. I guess I was wondering if you guys were up for teaming up.” That didn’t sound sudden or awkward at all. Even as he spoke he occasionally glanced about. He couldn’t help it. Paranoia was probably the main thing keeping him alive. He wondered how bad it would be if people knew how desperate he was not to be alone anymore. Weird how complete isolation made you realize how much you craved human company. Either out of wishful thinking or simple stupidity he didn’t even consider that they might just kill and rob him.

Yellow was on the move again. Although she wanted to be scared of what was happening around her, she kind of... She was kind of used to it now. She'd not run into any hordes, and she hoped to keep it that way. Isn't that how most people died? Being overcome by twenty of them or so?

Leaning against a wall, she prepared herself for the short dash across to the shopping complex. She had a feeling that there would be loads of the idiots there, all waiting to see if some idiot came and tried to get through them. She was only one woman, with one knife. So far she'd only had to deal with one or two of them at any one time.

Taking in a deep breath, she peered slowly around the corner, holding her nerve and making sure her heart rate didn't go up. The moment her blood started pumping through her veins slightly too fast, they would know exactly where she was hiding. They could smell her, she knew that. It wasn't just noise. Saying a silent prayer to the non-existent God, she moved silently towards the complex.

As soon as she got to the doors, she realised she'd made an error- they were open. There was no barracade, no attempt to keep the idiot's out. There would be nobody here, nobody alive anyway. Backing away slowly, she bumped into a post and felt a jab of pain. No, she thought, I have to get out of here.

Looking at the area where she had come from, she stifled a scream. Idiot's were everywhere- they were bumping around and walking towards the gatehouse where she had been hiding. The idiot she had killed earlier lay there in a thick, black pool of blood and pus. There was no option but to go through the complex to reach Walmart. She hoped, oh she hoped, that someone would be there.

Picking herself up mentally, she moved into the complex. What was once a shiny, clean building with teenagers playing truant, parents shopping and children playing the "I want" game, it was now a cold, empty place with the shadows of the people who had once been there. No music played, nobody spoke and no children laughed. It was so sad to see it so different now.

Moving passed a few of the smaller shops, Yellow made sure to keep her mind sharply on the task at hand. She didn't want to mess up and have them after her again. Moving silently, she pushed forward. Everything was quiet aside from the soft groans and mumbles coming from the outside world. As she turned the corner, she could see the sign for Walmart through an open window of a small shop that used to sell cakes. Deciding to check it out, there might be supplies after all, she ducked inside.

Moving behind the counter she saw two dead bodies- but they had been shot through the head. That meant someone had been here, with a gun. She prayed that whoever it was had escaped and that any of the idiot's that had followed them had also been killed, or moved off to somewhere else. Moving around the small shop carefully, she realised she was safe here.

Going towards the door, she went to push it closed, the thought of rest lulling her in. She'd been on the go since... Since when exactly? She'd sat down only a dozen or so times. The exhaustion was overwhelming, to say the least. As she pulled across the door, a groan sounded from outside. And then another, and another. She cursed her stupidity and reckless actions, praying that they would get bored soon and leave.

As the idiot limped over, one arm missing, leg twisted the wrong way- she knew she had one option. To go out the window. Thankfully, she was only on the ground floor and the fall wasn't too big. Taking note of any idiots outside, she climbed out the window and dropped down into the bushes. Laying there, in front of her, was a gun. Picking it up she realised it was loaded, one round. She stuffed it in her jean-shorts, hoping that she wouldn't have to use it.

The jog to Walmart was easier than she thought it would be. She entered the carpark and there were "dead" idiots everywhere- all of them shot through. Looking at the door, it was barracaded. Thankful that it was a sign, she began to walk towards it, hoping to see a way in.

Will kept the gun in the same position he had before. "We don't know anything about you. You could be a murder, a killer or a rapist. Why should we trust you?" he whispered back trying to project a tough guy voice which was hard to do when whispering. Then he suddenly remembered the other figure he saw rustling cans into a backpack. "Are you sure your alone? We saw someone else here" he asked, trying to keep as quiet as possible.

Charlotte shook her head. "Will he's trying to survive just like we are, stop being mean." Her cousin glared at her, "Charlie, we have no idea who this guy is!" he said raising his voice slightly from a whisper. Charlotte shook her head. "He could help us. I'm sure he has food, and there's room for up to five in your Prius" she whispered back. Charlotte suddenly felt Will's hand over her mouth. "Charlie why are you telling him everything about us?! Did you ever think this could be a trick?" he whispered back.

Oh well that’s brilliant. Really thought this one through. Cadence was at a loss as to how to portray his good intentions. “Hell, if I’d wanted to kill you or something I’d have tried to sneak up on ya and bashed your skull in; not waltz on over here so you could point that damned gun at me,” he whispered harshly. Smooth. He was already mentally kicking himself. Yeah, great way to convince them you mean no harm. Let’s just get angry at the guy with the gun. The question about others made him pause though. There was someone else in here? How many people had gathered up here? His temper cooled immediately. “Yeah I’m alone,” he replied, “Or I had thought so at least…” He trailed off. Odd luck to run into so many people after so long. Maybe good karma was finally kicking in? Damn, he wanted to make a good impression on these people. “You guys have a car?” he asked genuinely impressed and with a touch of jealousy. After his old truck had finally bit the dust he’d had to hoof it from then on. He’d made attempts to hotwire a car, but he didn’t know the first thing about it. More distrust riled him up a bit again. “Hey now,” he said offended, “I’m not conniving or clever enough to come up with any tricks.” He paused as he realized he’d just called himself an idiot. “Shut it!” he said defensively before he could be mocked. His face flushed slightly. What a way with words. Perhaps he’d be doing me a favor if he just shot me.

Will was frustrated. His cousin was telling this stranger everything she knew. "Charlie why are you doing this?" he snapped at his cousin, who had crossed her arms in an unusual act of defiance. " I like him and he's trying to survive too! If we don't he could die!" Will snorted loudly. "Charlie, you like everyone. You would ask the Italian mafia to join us if they looked like they were struggling. Besides the guy just called himself an idiot, why should we have to take it upon ourselves to look out for someone who won't even benefit us?" Will didn't know what to do. He couldn't let the guy leave now, he knew too much about them. It was better to bring him with them, keep a close eye on him. If he turned into a burden Will would just dump him somewhere when Charlotte was asleep. "Fine" he whispered back at his cousin, lowering the hand gun but not turning the safety switch off.

Charlotte smiled, and beckoned towards the young man with the beautiful green and blue eyes. "Yes we have a car. It ran out of gas though, but we know how to get more. Come we have to get out pretty soon" she said to him in her soft voice. It was the most Charlotte had said to anybody who wasn't in her family in years, at least conversational wise. "My name is Charlotte. What's yours?" she asked him.

(ooc: Gosh darn I wish I remembered how to put things in italics. >_< )

Cadence fought the impulse to slug the guy. I’m trying to make friends, he reminded himself. He didn’t interrupt their little argument at first. He was certain to get into a fight if he did. But then the guy took advantage of his slip up. “I’m not an idiot,” he contended, half to himself, “I sure as hell wouldn’t have survived this long otherwise. I’m just not so great with words alright.” And people skills, he added silently. He was content to keep some of his more redeeming qualities a secret though. No need to blab everything to them, not matter how much he wanted to trust them. Then he got the okay from Mr. Suspiscious and he couldn’t help but grin. “You won’t regret it,” he said optimistically. Hopefully anyway. He would have to watch himself with this guy, so as not to get into any future fights. He walked over the remaining distance so as to be a little less out the open than he was before. Being as helpless as he’d been then had made him twitchy. Never doing that again. They seemed to have decent survival strategy worked out, especially if they had a car. Looks like I’ll get more out of this than a mean to maintain my sanity. Oops there it was. She went an asked his name. He braced himself and responded levelly, “Nice to meet’cha Charlotte. The name’s Cadence.” She seemed so nice that he wasn’t as reluctant about telling people as eh usually was. He didn’t expect her to openly mock his name with how considerate she seemed anyhow. He did, however, eye her cousin as he said it. Go on punk, make fun of it, he thought silently challenged him.

occ: I never knew but I figure people will get what I mean if I say 'I hate cheese' Will thought. XD

bic: Will couldn't resist a small snort. 'Candance? What sort of guy name was that? What did his mother think he was a girl or something?' he thought to himself as his cousin started introducing herself to the newcomer. He really didn't have time for this. They needed to gather as much as they could, get some gas and head back towards the car before the undead found them. He was in no mood to get eaten today and all this chit-chat was wasting their precious time.

Charlotte turned to give her cousin a look which meant something along the lines of shut up. "Hi Cadence. Can I just call you Cad? You can call me Charlie." she said to him smiling slightly. "That's my cousin Will" she continued her voice lowering when she began to realize how loud she was talking. "We can look at what supplies you have later. We need to still go get clothes and a couple of other things before we leave." Turning to nod at her cousin, who was already walking toward the sale bin to look for some jeans she motioned to Cadence to follow her. "We need to hurry, before they realize were here" she said to him, putting a lot of emphasis on the they part of the sentence.

(ooc: Aha fair enough. XD)

Just a snort? Not the worst response he’d ever elicited from the mention of his name. Then Charlotte inquired about a potential nickname and he almost choked. “I’d really rather you didn’t,” he replied hastily. Cad would not be a new one for him. He had often been teased with the term that meant someone was dishonorable or vulgar. All the worse that a girl should call him this when it usually referred towards a man’s treatment towards women. He gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she just didn’t know the word. As awful as Cadence was, it was merely feminine rather than a straight up insult. He was yanked from his conversation by Will and he had to agree with the reasoning. There could be time for talking later. Best to ignore the brief elation that came with companionship and focus on survival. Couldn’t very well chat if they were dead. “Right,” he said and went about hunting down another hoodie. It was the only thing he was in immediate need for. Pickings were slim and he ended up with a slightly oversized purple one. Being picky wasn’t really a luxury he had anymore, so he shed his old one and threw it on. He was ready to go, so he played sentry while they scavenged for their needs.
