could anyone explain how to IV breed and EV train?
im afraid like ill mess up or something lol

IV breeding is the process of breeding to achieve 31 IVs within a stat. It's basically this type of layout

x / x / x / x / x/ x (each x representing a stat) By breeding with a pokemon with desired IVs in a stat, IV breeding is possible. IV stands for individual value.

For example: x / x / x / x / x / x x / x / x / x / x / 31 Breeding these two parents will create an offspring with (I believe a 50% chance) of passing down these IVs.

An offspring with x / x / x / x / x / 31 (or any other IV set) will be created you can continue chain breeding by breeding with pokemon with 31 IVs (or other) in a stat. 31 / x / x / x / x / x x / x / x / x / x / 31 thus creating a 31 / x / x / x / x / 31

In summary, you basically need tons of patience and breeding practice to create IV perfection

Evs, on the other hand, are known as effort values. Every Pokemon gives out a specific EV value after being defeated. Up to 3 Evs may be given out by a pokemon, usually fully-evolved pokemon. Many sites, such as Serebii or Psypoke, have convenient EV lists located.

Let's say you want to train in a specific stat, such as speed. A nature boosting said stat is often recommended. (Natures give a 10 percent increase in a stat, and a 10 percent decrease in another, unless it is a neutral nature.) You can kill 255 starly, because starly give out 1 speed EV each. 255 EVs in one stat is the max amount one stat can have before being considered "maxed." For every 4 EVs a pokemon gains, their stat will increase by 1 upon reaching max level. The change is gradual, so don't except to gain 64 stat points one a single level. It is spread out.

There are also many certain features/item that can double/increase the gain of EVs. Pokerus, a pokemon disease, doubles EVs gained in battle. Defeating a starly, like mentioned above, will yield 2 speed EVs instead of 1. Macho braces also double EVs gained and stacks with Pokerus. Items such as Power Anklets, Power Bracers, etc., etc. These are sold in the Battle Frontier in Platinum, and Battle Tower in Pearl/Diamond. These also stack with Pokerus. They give you an automatic 4 Evs in a stat, and is listed in its description. (Pokerus will grant 8 instead of 4.)

Good luck understanding. xD

AAAAAHHHHH! I messed it up. =( I think I might just give up on a shiny one.

As for EVs. AM pretty much summed it up. If you need to know which pokemon give out which Evs, check out serebii. http://serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml

Sorry, I saw that post on page 1, and now I want to kill you. Shiny Metagross is probably one of the coolest shinies out there. HOW COULD YOU.

I have another question:
How far have you guys gotten at the Battle Tower?
I've met the Tower Tycoon, so I think 21 rounds. xD I love the battle tower, but I always lost at 27. ;~;

But anyways, my strongest pokemon is lvl 100 Metagross. :D It's slow, but its 400 attack makes up for it (Naughty natured, lulz). I have other lvl 100, but that's before I discovered the miracle of EV training so they're all silly and weak. xD And EV training doesn't really bother me. It just seems like normal training now since I'm so used to it. o_O As for IV's, I just sit there and hope. :P I'm training a Yanma and I'm just hoping that it will have the right IV's for the correct Hidden Power. :'D

I've managed to beat the Battle Tycoon's first stage, but I usually die on the first battle after that. I swear to god some of those trainers are using hacks-how else would Blaziken outrun my Weavile?

I never really bother with IVs-it's just too much of a headache. The most I'll do is input my pokemon's stats into Serebii's IV calculator when I first get them, and if the main stat is under 12, then I go catch another. My Salamence and Leafeon both have 31 in Attack. :3

I also have my wonderful Glitch Eevee. I bred my Jolteon and Leafeon, and through some sort of strange coding fluke, the offspring had Thunder Wave. This isn't a normal egg move for Eevee, and cannot even be learned Via TM. I used him for the Little Cup on PBR.

My strongest pokemon by far--Level 98 Blaziken (Bred him from my female blaziken and a male lucario.)

My hardest worked for--the shiny riolu that took 47 hatchings to get. He's not my strongest at all--far from it--but he's a great contest pokemon. He's a Lucario naw and his moveset: Blaze Kick, Me First, Thunderpunch, Aura Sphere. (Blaze Kick was his egg move. <3 )

Current HA: TFP Starscream.

You do know you could have caught a level 50 Banette with Frisk and just battled random Horsea/Seadra right? xD

Breeding can be a very big pain in the butt if you want a Pokemon with a specific gender, nature and egg move.

I literally spent hours trying to hatch a male Torchic with an Adamant nature that would know the move Rockslide. By the time I got this combination, I had hatched over 35 other Torchics.

But it was worth it. :)

I know I'll probably sound like a huge noob asking, but why does it matter so much about breeding a pokemon with a specific nature and stuff? D;

Some natures are better than others, because most natures have a positive side, a stat they give advantage to, and a negative side, which is a stat that will be lower. Only a couple natures are neutral :)

My highest leveled pokemon is my lv.100 Blaziken, but he's not EV trained or anything, since I got him when I was still new to pokemon and didn't know any of this stuff. Next is my lv.91 Togekiss, EV trained and all. C: He kicks butt. But I don't bother breeding for IVs, it sounds like a huge hassle and I'm too lazy.

I have some shinies, but I've only chained one, and none of them are trained. They don't have beneficial natures, so I'm not sure what I want to do with them. xD

As for frustrating, I've been trying to catch a Modest Ditto for a while and I just can't find one. Arghh. I don't even have any modest pokemon with Synchronize to make it easier.

What's the RNG method?

RNG Method

It's pretty easy once you figure it out. The SecretID part is a bit tricky. D:

Wow, that's a long article. I'm reading it right now and it seems very interesting. I have a shiny Meditite on Diamond that I could use, but it might be hard to find it's IVs... hm...

edit: I tried it out and now I have a shiny Trapinch omg this is amazing x:

O: I never knew that. But how do you know which natures helps/doesn't help stats? I've been playing pokemon forever, and I feel stupid for asking all this ahaha.

There's some other stuff about game mechanics under the drop-down list at the top of the page You could also check other fansites (smogon, Bulbapedia, Marriland, etc) for more information

RNG? I never even heard of that method. Too much math involved for my tastes though. I managed to slay half a year's worth of Algebra 2 in five days so I could go to Disneyland Grad Nite, and I swore that until I begin collage classes, I'm not doing anything more complex than basic multiplication. XD

It's highly impressive that a group of people actually sat down and figured this out though. I would've never had the patience for it.

Probably the hardest one I will ever work for is a Tri Attack Togepi with Serene Grace. See, I'm completing XD a third time just for that. The first time through I traded it back to Hordel, and the second time it had Hustle. :x

There are many others I spent a lot of time on: My shiny Kyogre- Took many soft resets and it's EV trained at level 100 now. Shiny Poochyena- Bred on Ruby, bred on Emerald, had to release more than four box fulls of Poochyena. Then I got one on Pearl with RNG. =P Ho-oh- Got it from Colosseum, enough said.

I have eight level 100s, but four of which are legendaries that didn't require much effort. The other four are Blaziken (x3) and Sceptile.

Graphic by me~
