I don't have any children yet, but I do want some within the next few years. My fiance and I have already picked out a few names we like and a lot of people I know don't like them. One of my friends even said "Don't name your child that, it's terrible." I'm sticking with the names anyways since it doesn't really matter if anyone else likes them, it just hurts my feelings when they react the way they do.

WELL? You gotta tell us at least one now... ;3
Yeah it's a bit harsh for them to say it like that. The only way that'd be justified is if they think the name will lead to bullying or discriminatory behaviour, and are worried about the kid. But if not, then fuck em!
Anyway, you or they might change their mind about the names by the time it comes round to naming kids, so you can put it out of your mind for now I suppose!

For girls we have Sophie Christine and Evelyn Shirley (Evelyn and Shirley are both family names ♥) for a boy we have Damien James :) My aunt hates Damien the most because she's super religious and apparently that's the name of the anti-christ >.> I just think it's a cute name. Also, I think Paisley is a cute name :3

Those are perfectly nice names! I like them all. I actually have a friend who just had a daughter and named her Evelyn. They call her Evie for short. I thought you were going to come out and say you wanted a name like my friend's former roommate's daughter - Zelda Minerva. Eeesh.
thanks :3 my middle name is Evelyn and I have 2 aunt Evelyns, my bf loves the name so he's the one that actually picked it, and Shirley is my grandmother's name and also my mother's middle name :3 Sophie and Damien are just because we love the names, but the middle names are also from family. I always tell people I could name my children something much worse, like that one unfortunate baby named "Hashtag" and Zelda Minerva just hits the ears wrong in my opinion.

I think those names are great! I hate the names of my niece and nephews, but their mom knows it xD She just doesn't care because we have always had different taste like that. So they have nicknames from me :) It's almost the best of both worlds, because now they all have two names, haha. The newest is Nolan and it's just not my taste. I call him Bugaboo/Bug/Boo :P People aren't going to like the names my husband and I will choose, either. Whatever! :D
almost all the men in my family hate my niece's name but all the girls like it, her name is Rowan Jean, but everyone has a different nickname for her. I don't mind if someone hates the names we choose, it's just the way they express it is super rude :/ If I don't like a name I'll just say I don't like it and that's the end of that. Damien seems to be the name everyone hates the most so I say they can just call him DJ.

Those are nice names. As long as they aren't super odd or they have weird spelling, than who cares?
Yeah, I almost keep mine to myself because I don't care to hear what my family would think xD We'd go with Lucifer for a boy if people wouldn't make such a fuss. The one we are definitely using though is for a girl (I BETTER FREAKING GET MY GIRL LOL), Melee Jayne :) Jayne is my husband's sister's middle name. But then, folks will get used to Melee and get over how upset they are, and we will have our second girl...Malice Lea xD That should get their undies all in a bundle!
I was originally going to do Damien Lucifer lol I really love the way that name sounds, and I don't see any problems with the names you picked :) I like the way Malice Lea sounds.

Thank you!! :D And I say go for it - I think that's an awesome name. Really, I would hope the family won't really care either when there's a baby involved...they will see that the person makes the name, not the other way around :)
Eh, everyone's gonna have an opinion about the names people pick, be it positive or negative. There will always be SOMEONE who will think they're terrible, 'cause you can't please everyone.
Hell, I myself make fun of what I think are absurdly stupid names my friends/family have come up with for their own children, although I'd never actually say so to their face. It's pretty mean, and frankly not really any of my concern (and even more insulting, given that these are actual children, not just hypothetical ones). That being said, I would be honest if ever asked for my opinion - but in more of a "I wouldn't have picked it myself" kind of way, dancing around the "I think that's an awful name and your child(ren)'s gonna get teased in school" subject.
Though, I will say this: Giving your child an "alternate" spelling for an otherwise normal-sounding name is just mean. Straight-up life-sentence of bullshit spelling errors and constantly having to correct people. Don't do that to your child. D=
I would never do any weird spellings, I've seen quite a few that I think are ridiculous. I also make fun of some names that I see, especially on tv. Celebrities seem to be the worst when it comes to baby names, though I think they do it on purpose :P but like you said, if someone asked me about their child's name I would be polite and say I just don't like it.

Man... Okay, so my name is Sarah, right? Common enough name, but even it can still be frustrating on occasion, what with the whole "With or without an H?" crap (and having people still spell it wrong D=). But I knew this one girl... had the same sounding name as mine, right? Spelled it "Sairha". Felt sooo bad for all the bullshit she had to deal with as a result.
And yes, something about being a celebrity makes all common sense and reason fly right out the window in favour of absolutely bat-shit insane antics to bring attention onto themselves. Your child isn't a pet or an accessory; you are picking a name that, unless they go and having it legally changed, will follow them for the rest of their lives. Spend more than 30 minutes deciding on what it'll be. And, if you think of a name and laugh (I'm looking at you, Kanye West), that's a BAD SIGN - DON'T FUCKING PICK THAT, YOU PIECE OF SHIT.
ahem
Y'know, just my two cents - for what it's worth. D=
My name really is Deanna and I've had so many problems with people mispronouncing and misspelling so I know how you feel there >.> I've also had to deal with a lot of star trek jokes... I like my name I just don't like when people get it wrong.
[Tree=deannaestmirifica]
God, when you said they didn't like the names you picked out I was half-expecting them to be weird/crazy or made up, but they're so...normal. I don't know why anyone would be opposed to someone else giving their kids any of those names o-o
I don't care for the names of my second cousins, partly because they're a bit too cute for my tastes, annnd partly because they happen to be very common pet names -- Zoey and Bailey (Jesus, how many doggies have I seen with those names? @.@) but I would never tell anybody what to do with their kids' names unless they have a lot of potential to be embarrassing or if I notice the initials spell out something stupid like ASS or whatever xP
Evelyn sounds like a particularly lovely name.
I also think the names are really nice and sound well, but do they go well with your last name too? (You don't have to tell it to me/us)
In Germany (yes, a German here.) there are a lot of people who choose "English" names like Jeremy, Sandy, Joyce, Ryan, Jayden, .. and then there comes a very common last name that is really really essential German and destroys everything. I don't know if you are interested in the World Cup right now, but we have that player Thomas Müller with a very common last name. Now try to image how it would sound if he was a Jayden or female and named Shirley. If his last name would be the English equivalent Miller, IMO the English names would work better.
that're my 2 cents :D
they'd have my fiance's last name which is Gousie (pronounced kind of like Goose.) I think the last name sounds okay with the names we've chosen, but people only comment on the first and middle names, not how the whole name would sound :/
[Tree=deannaestmirifica]
Weird. If you were naming your kids Diphtheria and Batman I might've understood your family's concern, but those are really nice names.
Hopefully once you have said kids people will be too busy fussing over how adorable they are to bother with something so petty as not liking what they're called. I'm sure it would grow on them very quickly.
