- lucky! :D good luck with your new job! this economy suuuccccks. 100 people fighting for one spot. all the rejection, it gets depressing after a while. well, i work in fast food (temporarily hopefully. well, it's been about 9 months but after a year MAYBE it will open up something new. i can't afford to branch out or leave at the moment. car and home problems.) my boyfriend/roommate works at best buy and he got done with an interview for a factory job yesterday. i've had some decent jobs in the past. i've worked for a local music venue putting on concerts and raves, i've been a custodian for a place that barely gets dirty (which was nice i suppose for a part time job), worked at a kennel for all sorts of dogs, office clerical, special ed teacher's aide, and i worked at a factory that made box cutters- OH THE MILLIONS OF CUTS ON MY FINGERS! :unheart: so yeah. when i am finally able to get my license, i want to be persistent about applying for a nicer, classier retail job. if i could have any job, i'd like to be a body piercer or do hair i suppose, but i'm not ready for college yet. ^_^; if it comes down to it, i might have to be adamant about another factory job but things might be close to being fixed around here. that is all i suppose.

I have officially never had a job. I'm still at college, but have been required to work a certain number of hours as "social service". I worked as a teacher for 4 months. I used to take 2 buses to get to the institute (plus walking 6-7 blocks) as it was a place where the cars would rarely go (specially the buses). It was super cool, I got to work with kids (I wanted teenagers but all of those were already taken so I got the kids). They'd come with their school's homework and I'd help them out, train them for exams and such. My work was easy because I'd buy a lot of chips, sit them and let them eat as they worked and when they were done they were able to go play to the backyard. I'm looking to complete the rest of my social service hours this summer as I won't be able to afford summer school. Some companys give "economical support", so I'm hoping to get one of those ❤

congratulations first of all I am still in high school senior yr busy as hell with hw and applying to colleges. I have a part time job at a learning center. I usually sit there a grade wkshts I work one day a week. so much little kids there its crazy but its fun

The longest job I've had was six years in a grocery store. I made it to supervisor. Then I moved and they gave me no hours and no money. Now I work in a mechanic shop.

I need to get a job again :D I guess I'll post my dream job. I want to be able to travel and go all over the world but still having money to keep doing that. I'm not from a rich family so I don't see how that will go over but maybe once I'm done with college (I was forced to go :b told I was too smart to waste my potential) I will try my luck by doing odd jobs in other countries to keep myself afloat. Who knows if I'll ever get to travel. No, with my luck I'll be stuck at a job in Texas my entire life and never get to see the beauty this world holds.

congrats! I don't have much personal experience of jobs yet (apart from babysitting), but I do know that the universities I'm hoping to go to expect you to work so hard that they forbid you from getting a job during term time :O

I think the Best story at a job I have for you was when I was 17 and working at Blockbuster video. My manager and I were working on valentines day and this was the year The Notebook came out. Every guy in the city I swear to god was looking for the Notebook. They had to have it for their GF/significant other. My manager had just gotten dumped after finding out that her bf had been cheating on her with her best friend. So she was not in the "romance" mood and was bitching to me about how stupid the holiday is and I was commiserating. The door bell was broken so we didn't know there were people int he store. 3 guys were listening to us and when we'd finished we turned back to our duties and then noticed them watching us with mouths open.

One of them said we were bitter bitches, another said we should believe in the power of love and the other said "No wonder you're both single. You're cunts."

I smiled sweetly and said "Let me unless, you're looking for The Notebook?" They nodded and I continued "We don't have it. We're sold out. Every other store in the city is sold out so iif you're done being assholes get the fuck out of the store."

They left pretty quickly. A few days later we got complaints filed with us and the DM came to speak to us and find out what happened. I told him what happened and offered to resign and he shook his head saying "I hope my daughter turns out to be like you."

Yeah finding jobs can be hard no matter what you try. I feel like I was meant to have this job though so it worked out faster than expected. Last time I was unemployed it was over a year before I found a job. I was let go from sears for not getting enough people to open credit cards, and then from hellmart for being late back from a break. Only two times I've been fired and both shitty reasons lol But then in an at will to work state so long as it isn't like "hair color was ugly" you can be fired for the smallest things. But most other employers look at how pissanty the reason was and will over look it so long as it wasn't like theft from the store or trying to harm people.

But for those still seeking work (in the US at least) there's your local worksource that can help you for free in getting good resumes and such going. Then for sites I liked snagajob.com, there you can input your resume with work history and skills and search for jobs by zip codes or type (retail, part time ect ect) and then indeed.com was good as well for finding job postings by zip and type. They listed jobs faster than snagajob.com but between the two sites it expanded the knowing of what places were looking 10x. But most of my interviews happened from snagajob.com, also I really liked the feature on both to send the resume to the places looking before you even applied so they knew to expect the app and if they liked your resume to hunt it out and see if they really wanted to hire you.

Then if anyone needs laughs there's the notalwaysright.com or retailhellunderground.com but be warned it's sometimes hard to think people ARE that stupid/ silly and you have to reread or spend more time reading more stories :x many a time I've told people "let me finish this story then we'll go" and an hour later I'm still there haha

Congrats! LOL!! You know I do. I worked at Victorias Secret for a seasonal job last year. We had one man come in and order 3 different bra types...one A, B and D. Im pretty sure he was a pimp of some sort. I asked him what color/style he thinks would be best for the woman hes buying (thinking it was his wife or something) and he looked at me so strangely. Awkward. Another story. I was working in the changing rooms and I was still sort of new, a older woman came out. FULL naked and asked me to help her find a better bra. I walked out and asked for help... Another one, last one lol. I was helping a woman find panties in PINK and she all the sudden comes out and tells me shes a stripper and needs a sexy pair of underwear. Whips out her phone and starts showing me um...pictures. Then proceeds to hit on my STRAIGHT pregnant friend and told her shes hot and wanted to date her.

Congratz! Finding a job now seems to be pretty hard, and one that you actually enjoy nearly impossible!!! I work at a book store as of right now and recently worked at Hottopic as a temp. It seems it's not really the work you need to enjoy, but more so the people you are working for/with. If you have a great boss you already know then kudos!!!

I'm gonna be working at a gas station w/ a car wash sooo I imagine it'll be giving some funny stories :P
