It's aimed to young girls who have not been sexually active yet, as they likely do not have HPV.

HPV takes, I believe, a LONG while to show up positive on an STI/STD test and it's sort of common. You can have HPV and be asymptomatic.

However, any woman can get it, virgin or not.

I have decided for the meantime to not have sex and not get the vaccine. I don't like the sound of the side effects and I'd rather wait a while to see what happens with it. It also does not completely guard against your chances of contracting the disease and getting cancer as a result. (:

There are several types of HPV, I'd say a 75% chance is better than a 0% chance. You're most likely going to devlop cancer sometimes in your life anyway, so you might as well take this.

Or wait 20 years, get cancer, and then find out the long term side effect is you getting cancer.

I got my 3rd and last Gardasil shot last month.

The last was the most painful I admit, but I think its because of the nurse. I havent had any bad side effects so far, except for a sore arm from were they injected the shot, but then it went away in like a week.

OH! So thats it! Let me explain: Last November, I got a flu shot and that HPV thing. The next morning I woke up and felt awful. I couldn't stand up, I was dizzy, and I barfed a few times. I thought it was my flu shot, but now I know that other people had side effects too, and that it was most likely my HPV shot.

I got it last year. No side affects, but I could definitely feel it radiating through my arm. Hurt like a bitch. >:c

I got it a while back. Hurt like Hell afterwards as it spread, but overall, it wasn't too bad.

I've never had it. The worst shots I've ever gotten were my iron shots. Those needles are friggin' HUGE.

I haven't gotten the shot yet, because I don't trust it. It's not been out that long, and it could very well have negative side effects later in life.

Plus, it's not like I plan on having sex during this lifetime.

(Also, when I was littler and weirder and first heard about the shot, I thought for some reason that they injected it 'down there'. And than I heard they did in the arm and I was all "WHAT? REALLY!?"

I got all my pre-college shots all at once, which included getting the first HPV. Four shots in one day, including the tuberculosis test! Phew, I hurt so badly after that one.

I think the weirdest shot I ever got, though, was when I got an IV once. It felt so...cold! O.o!

I'm never getting that shot ever. I have a friend who got it, and her side effect of it was infertility. Yep, she no longer has the ability to produce babies anymore because of that shot.

To me, it's just not worth it.

I actually refuse to get it. I was in the middle of university, studying anatomy, physiology and biology when that vaccine was released, and several of my professors were unimpressed with the apparent lack of long-term research done on it. One of them told us that there would likely be cases of autoimmune disease associated with it, and there have been.

Also, they like to frame the statistics about HPV and cancer in such a way as to make you think that your chances of getting HPV and then cervical cancer are much higher than they really are. It's like when they used to tell us as kids that 90% of heroine addicts were pot users first, therefore pot --> heroine...but that was bullshit. Yes, 90% of heroine addicts back then used pot first, but only about 10% of pot users went on to use heroine, therefore pot WAS NOT a gateway for heroine the way they implied. Same idea for HPV --> cervical cancer. The odds are much, much slimmer than they want you to think, and when you consider the risks behind the shot itself, it's not worth it in my opinion.

Arya, I did some research beforehand but probably not enough. I just decided I'd rather take all the risks and get the needle, as they weren't anywhere near as bad as cancer or so I thought.. I didn't realize the side effects could be so serious.

On another note, my arms really starting to kill now. xD And all down my left side and leg. Woop.

Do you all mean the cervical cancer needles?.. they're the only trio of needles I can think of at the moment. Absolutely no-one got bad side effects here from those. I know I ran a fever, and one girl fainted, but that fainting was about the worst of it...

I'm probably missing something here - if I am, could somebody enlighten me?

Oh yeah, edit: the girl that fainted fainted from a phobia of needles, not the actual shot.

Hmm, I have had 2 out of 3 vaccines already. Really, I've only got a stiff muscle for 2 days and that's all.

Also, it makes me laugh so hard when I see how scared some people are of that needle/vaccine.
