I know that situation all too well. :(

My parents got divorced right after my 16th birthday, due to the fact that my dad was miserable and had an affair as well.

My mom forced him to pick us up every other weekend, but then he moved 7 hours away and was off the hook. He didn't even make it up for my high school graduation - he called and claimed he had "gotten a little more than halfway there, but his back hurt and he decided to go back home".

Sadly enough, he only snapped back to reality recently, when his wife's cancer returned after only three months in remission, and the doctor told them that there is nothing they can do for her. It's like he's a different person now - he made amends with his family who he hadn't spoken to in years, and he's coming up for my 21st birthday at the end of this month.

At first I thought it was a bad idea, I mean the guy ignored me for the last five years of my life.

But he was messed up in the head. He's gone through counseling...and he's already payed a heavy price by isolating himself from everyone.

Hopefully someday your dad will see too. (although I hope it doesn't take something so tragic to make him realize what he's done)

Happy Birthday anyway, though. I hope you manage to have some fun no matter what. :)

Your 16, Go get a job and get money to buy a bike.
Sorry, but when you say you were REALLY looking forward to a bike and cried when you didn&;t get one, you sound 8 :/

Thats not the point. The point is that I can't rely on my father, and that he completely blew me off. The bike isn't what was the big deal.

For one thing, its my birthday. Secondly, he spews derogatory and offensive things at me through the phone, dropping the f-bomb every other word. Bitching me out for asking if hes going to come through with what he promised. Ill record it next time, you'd be disgusted. Its not about the bike, its about the fact that he really upset me with the crap that constantly gushes from his mouth.

My dad's an ass too. I haven't seen the bastard in 3 years, then I found out I had a baby sister (nice, non?). What a holy piece of shit. :)

[edit] whoops forgot to mention I found out about my sister on MYSPACE. Makes him look a bit more douchey.

Exactly. To get my hopes up and then crush them. Relying on this guy is impossible now.

:( That's horrible. You should always be able to trust your parents.

I would send you gifts to help you feel better, except I have 0 sP.

Hope you feel better!!!
