And today, a whole bunch of people of people kept calling him an ''it'' and I blew up on them. Told them that it wasn't nice and to stop and all that jazz.
^ that's why i think using terms that arent gender specific shouldnt be offensive
well, if you dont know what to call them, what DO you say? it's not a "what the fuck are they" thing, it's a courtesy thing. should you just go up out of the blue and say "what pronoun should i use when i talk about you with my friends?"
my instinct is to just rotate in between he/her if i'm not sure but that can get confusing.
Me and my friends (when they aren't calling them an it) identify them as a ''her'' when we talk about her.
wait, i'm confused. is this a male-to-female transgendered person or female-to-male? your first post suggested this was a girl who identified as a boy, but you're calling him a her now??

Female to male
then if he identifies as a boy, shouldn't you refer to him as a he???
Same here, I never liked using "it" for anyone, including unborn kids...it just feels off to me. There were transgendered kids in my schools, it wasn't a big deal. The schools themselves referred to them by their given names and birth genders (in the case of the hermaphrodite by the gender their parents picked for them), but the teachers and students referred to them by whatever gender they had taken on for themselves. I guess my high school was just more awesome than most, nearly everyone acted completely normal towards those kids, to the point where we had a very enlightening discussion in grade 12 about what the entire situation was like for them, for us and for their family. If it had been a huge source of drama we would never have talked about it like that.
They all pretty much asked us the same thing: treat them like anyone else. Don't make a big deal about it (which would probably include not slathering their story all over internet message boards ;)), treat them like anyone else and move on.
