Have you guys ever been in a terrifying, everything-looks-like-my-5-year-old-cousin-designed-it type HA slump? How have you gotten past it?

aww, i'm sorry. :( i usually make really good HAs when i've got my mojo, but i've been losing it a lot lately.

i got over my slump by keeping one of my old avatars for a long time, but buying a lot of awesome items until i couldn't stand not using them. lulz

i hope you get your mojo back in time!

Thanks Xalia =) Lol, I can't make good HAs even with my Mojo, but the fact that it died is killing me right now XD I'll definitely try that strategy though =) It'll give me an excuse to blow sp and not feel bad about it XD

My HA mojo comes and goes like item trends, and mostly goes. XD I swear I haven't been able to make a halfway decent HA for months, and I've kept this one for a while. :/

I'll sit down and start working on an HA, get a few good combos going, and then BAM. Roadblock to the face! Making really simple HAs helps sometimes though. C:

xD Oh, ouch. I've definitely done that before. I JUST got out of a horrid slump. I was making...pretty terrible HA's for a while there. Ones that made me go "...wha...? I thought that looked...good?"

Well. Truth be told, I just pick out the most RANDOM items I possibly can. Just for kicks. Then I pile on stuff that is similar, or matching to the color. Then I basically just boot off what doesn't look good, and sometimes you'll get this "Oh, now THAT" looks cool kind of thing going on. xD That's what I just did with my current HA, actually.

That, or...just pick two colors. Two or three, if you're feeling daring. Go in, do the same layer-mush. And see what you like, kick some items out if they don't match well enough. You might just come up with some good ideas!

Hah, I know this feeling very well! I keep getting HA slumps. I have the potential to make very good avatars but sometimes all I can manage is crap ones that really do look like complete crap. I don't really know how I get over it. One minute I can't make anything decent, the next minute I've suddenly created a really good one...

Aww thank you :) I've definitely had some bad ones, though. But then again I think everybody has at some point. And yes, it is! :) points to her forum set That's Selphie right there although you'd probably only figure it out because of the colour of her outift XD

The reason I asked whether you were from FFVII was cuz I just into FF, and I LOVE it. I'm starting off with FFVII + Crisis Core right now, but I'm excited for the 8th one =) How is it in comparison to 7 & Crisis Core?

Well, Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are totally different really. There's still a lot of the same elements and stuff but the graphics are different and there are also a lot of other differences. If you enjoy FF7 you'll definitely enjoy FF8.

Slumps are no fun, I've definitely been there. Thankfully, I've made my absolute favorite HAs when getting out of said slumps, so... things will look up?

I've found the best remedy to be attempting an HA with the most difficult to use item I can find and just... forcing myself to make it work.

That or... lately my answer has been to make a cosplay. 8D

When I just cant seem to make an HA work, I just go with least amount of items possible. :D I also save some of my former HAs that I really liked and just use those for a while, till I can figure out what I want.

I always try to find an item I REALLY love, and design something around it. I work on colors first, just playing with things, and slowly start adding or taking things away until I get what I want.

Just an update-I couldn't catch my mojo in time for the contest, and I got eliminated, but next time I'm contest slumping, I'll definitely come back to this thread. I never expected so many helpful hints!

Yeah. Same here. I got it back for a second last night and then the site crashed. Damn it.

Look around the forums at the different peoples avatars. Hang around with them, and pretty soon you'll get it back. At least that works for me.
