This wasn't just about you Jessicah. And seeing as you were so eager to try and bury it the other day, I don't see why you're dragging it all up again. And if it wasn't an excuse, why did you bring it into the conversation anyway? No one cared two shits for any disorder you have. I know many, many people with mental illnesses in some form or another, and bringing the whole topic up in something that was completely unrelated is pointless, and sickening to an extent.
But this whole excuse thing has to stop. It doesn't help anyone's case, it just enrages people. (And rightly so.)
HAHA. lol at the blocking xD
Yeah I shouldn't have bought that back up XD
Just read that board, ouuuch.
wow way to go Jess -_-....this board wasn't targeting you.
I couldn't help myself but I did laugh when I read some of these replies 8) A good laugh is always nice.
But I agree with the OP that using a disorder or illness to justify your actions isn't right. It's not to be used as an excuse for bad behaviour - usually these things are bad enough already so people shouldn't try to take advantage of it by using them as excuses. Bad behaviour is just bad with or without a disorder or illness!
buys Carol a drink
New motion: get carol drunk?
also, this topic would be funnier if I could see jessicah's posts LOL I would like to know, which is the FF threadddd? o;
Hmm. I let down a lot of people last year because my 'mental issues' pretty much confined me to the house, and every time I found myself having to use the good old crazy card as an excuse I felt tremendously guilty. Probably too guilty; society still isn't anywhere as accepting of mental illnesses compared to physical ones.
Anyway, I don't really think there is a straight answer to this. I'm sure that many people use it to pardon unacceptable behaviour which their illness had no bearing on, and that's just plain unfair. But then equally, there's a minority out there who do have problems, such as learning difficulties, which affect their ability to socialise and react normally.
We move against the tide.

'Blame it on the P-P-P-P-P-PMS, baby...'
I'm guessing it's the "nazi-cunt mods, I'm bipolar" thread.
I second that too. People do what they do because of what they're attitude and thinking is like, not because they have a disorder. :(
I see these excuses all the time from various users. Don't forget the excuse that they're PMSing, too!
Is there something wrong with a good old, "You know what, I was wrong and I'm sorry"? If you messed up, just apologize, it looks better than some lame excuse.
Not going to lie, but making a complaint thread in retaliation of a thread that was previously posted and LOCKED is kind of obvious. Stop being an already dead horse. He gets it, he did something wrong and acted like a jackass.
I definitely second this.
Truly most people with mental health disorders do not go around proclaiming them. Why bother? Do you really want even more people to view you as just another insane chick/dude? Seriously.
Don't blame the disorder. Just because you have one (if you do) it does not mean it rules you. (Oh and if it does go seek help 'cause that's a super shitty way to live)
Usually I edit with "Sorry I was being bitchy" I've never edited with "Hey ya sorry my multitude of mental health disorders made me do it"
Hahaha I do that in real life (with discretion of course, I don't go telling it to the world 'cause who cares?) 'cause I tend to be a super bitch for two days , but in forums? I just avoid topics I know are going to piss me off 'cause in turn I'll piss other people off and have to apologize for being a bitch. XD
I agree. Put on your big girl panties and pay the consequences for your own actions.
THANK YOU FOR SAYING WHAT WE WERE ALL THINKING.
Here, have a cupcake.

I especially hate when they get it wrong so it is ENTIRELY OBVIOUS that they are making it up. Bipolar =/= ANGRY RAGE GRARRGGH.
Fuck, when I get fat I'm gonna blame YOU for making me look at cupcakes and not some mental disorder that makes me wanna eat uncontrollably XD
;D
I, too, am sad that people blame the fault on their PMSing. Doesn't cut it, sorry. :|
djskd I want to thank the OP, Carol, AND Gal for mentioning all that they did. I couldn't agree more with the three of you.
The PMS excuse bothers me most of all since most people will make it sound like they're having those symptoms at the same time they're having their period but um. There's a reason they call it PREmenstrual syndrome. |: Most people lose the emotional symptoms before it starts.
Also women (in the US at least) were denied jobs and responsibilities for years partially because they were viewed as being too emotional and hormonal to have them, so way to fucking backup the stereotypes.
You can disagree with something or just have a bad day without blaming it on your goddamn hormones.

Did that thread inspire me to make this board? Yes... Is it the main reason? No
Basically it was the breaking point. I'm sick and tired of hearing the same excuse over and over again. I've seen it so many times over and over again. I'm tired of feeling insulted whenever I see the posts. I have a long family history of bipolar disorder. Luckily, I do not have it, but many people on my father's side do. I have never once heard one of them use it as an excuse to explain away their actions.
It's appalling to see so many people use this disorder and many others as an excuse to try to squirm away from taking full responsibility for their actions.
I'm down with what the OP is saying. I see so many excuses, to the point that it's starting to reshape our cultural expectations. I even see people making possible excuses for other people. I don't get it!
One may not be "normal", who is? We certainly can all conform to cultural norms and observe the social compact - only seriously mentally ill people have difficulties with this. People with depression, anxiety, etc., may not be able to control how they feel, but I do know they can certainly control how they act!
I want to see common sense-common courtesy- and common respect; forget the excuses!
