I don't really believe this will happen. It would be pretty stupid on NK's part to attack the U.S. they would be killed. o.o But who knows?

There's probably a good reason for little info circulating about this. If the government actually wanted people to be freaking out about this on the 4th of July Weekend, then there'd be more info. Otherwise, they probably don't consider it that much of a major threat. It's so stupid how NK is being so stubborn about testing their nukes like this.

Why do they need to attempt to create a major international conflict anyway?

<p>I really shouldn&;t be president.
Damn, is that an ignorant thing to say or what?.. -.-;;

North Korea will talk shit, but I doubt they'll start any. At least not with America. If you're going to "NUKE LOL" someone, nuke their leader. North Korean citizens have no say in what their leader does, so if you'd actually contemplate killing them over threats lollll.. that's pathetic.

And if they do bomb Hawaii. Yee, some people will die, but your army could easily deal with NK. Possibly. Probably. Nobody knows what exactly goes on in that country, and how strong of a military force they have at their disposal.

I really really doubt this is true though. Why would a country planning to attack another tell the world the exact date of said attack?.. Really doubt it.

Maybe if the US stopped sticking its nose where it does not belong, they would not have to deal with all these "threats". =)

You see, THIS is why I don't watch the news. CNN's new hobby seems to be making everyone think that a nuclear war is coming sometime within the next few weeks. :P

North Korea is NOT going to bomb Hawaii. First of all, their missile technology is not yet capable of reaching the place;even if they have nukes (Which I wouldn't completely rule out.), they wouldn't be able to get them to us. Secondly, there's no way they would be that stupid. Not to sound like an idiotic, arrogant and violent American redneck, but we've gone and kicked the ass of every country who has tried to attack us in modern times. North Korea probably knows that, if they drop one bomb on us, we'll go and raze their entire countryside.

North Korea test fired some more missiles yesterday.

Still don't think it's going to happen. Maybe they're just trying to act threatening.

Dont be silly, Theres nothing that NK would gain from this act and she knows that the US will retaliate with a LOT more force. Also they do not have the capability of hitting the US of A.

This is just scaremongering trying to keep the US population scared. Honestly it is surprising how many people from the US believe in these absurd stories like when Reagan convinced everyone that a small island Grenada posed a huge threat to National Security

Except you are wrong, and they could hit the US. Question remains if the US could intercept the missile, and with all eyes on NK, I am sure someone would. If not the US, then surely Japan. The missile would probably have to go OVER Japan, and Japan (and SK) have a shitload of anti missile weapons at the ready. Read about North Korea, and their missile tests, on Taepodong-2, wikipedia.

Nuclear abilities or not (they seem to have the technology, but doubt remains over whether they have nukes or not. Not a lot doubt, though, chances are they do. If not, they still have chemical weapons they can lob in ur faces.

On a more serious note, I think NK is just askin for an ass whoopin'. Eventually someone is going to do it.

You might as well destroy the whole world while you're at it, because as long as there is more than one person in the world you are going to have enemies. People with the capacity for mass murder are not unique to North Korea.

I doubt they'd bomb Hawaii, both because of their technological capabilities and the lack of logic involved, like everyone else said.

I'd be much more concerned about the countries that are closer to North Korea. Now bombing one of them could start WWIII, for sure. Then you'd have the U.S. stepping up in the bombed country's defense, no matter what country it was. It'd be U.S. and allies versus North Korea and whatever allies they have. _

I think too much.

it isn't like the US is the most adored country in the world. we have our enemies that would gladly work with, erm, terrorist nations against us. sticking our heads in the sand because we believe a hostile country is incapable or unable is just ridiculous. i'm also not so keen as to put all my faith in SDI (star wars) technology.

I've read a bunch of debates concerning this and looked at the arguments for it happening or not. Could someone please explain to me a concrete, logical reason as to why NK would want to do this because through all the fancy terminology, I seem to have missed the underlying point (I'm not the most knowledgeable in the subject of politics meets war). I get some of it, but they know that US and its allies would kick their ass. I don't understand what's going on. Is there something else I should be looking into as well?

I think it's mostly just North Korea throwing temper tantrums to get the world's attention. They had a shit-fit earlier after one of their missile tests was overshadowed by another world event (and damn if I haven't forgotten what that event was...). Literally they had a missile test, everyone looked at them for a split second, and then something more spectacular went down and everyone looked away. Soon afterward North Korea released a list of completely ridiculous threats and demands in another attempt to score headlines, and it says something that I can't remember what those threats were. I just know there was no way they could pull all that shit off.

Don't get me wrong, North Korea is dangerous. Their leader is basically a madman playing with matches in a powder keg, but if they did pull off one of their attacks, they would be dragged into oblivion for their trouble. They don't have the power to be a serious, sustainable threat, just a flash in the pan before the world marches in and makes sure they won't do it again. The problem is that initial flash, and trying to stop it from harming anyone.

I was having a discussion about this with my dad and he brought up something I hadn't thought about. If they do succeed in sending a missile to blow up Hawaii, it might not be just North Korea we'd be fighting. As in, we might be fighting China as well, which would be a completely different situation.

I personally don't know how I think China would react. They would obviously want to stand by their communist buddy if we retaliate, but I think their relations might be a bit strained at the moment as China doesn't approve of these tests NK is carrying out. And I don't think the U.S. or China would really be too keen on fighting each other, considering the U.S. buys all of China's stuff, and that'd be major hell on both economies if that all came to a halt.

I'm just gonna hope it doesn't happen.

This is completely ridiculous. North Korea is a severaly instable country, and doing something like bombing Hawaii would prove just how unstable they really are. I don't think China would like a country so fucked up with nuclear weapons easily capable of fucking up China right below them.

This isn't the North Korea from back when, and this certainly isn't the China we had back during the Korean war.

I don't know if I would consider North Korea as "easily capable of fucking up China," nor do I think they have the potential to be in the even remotely near future. Even if NK has nuclear weapons, China has shitloads more and could easily blast NK into pieces if they wanted. Regardless, they've been against the recent tests Korea's been carrying out, but China is (obviously) still their most important ally. Just because they're disapproving of their nuclear program doesn't mean they would just sit back and watch if NK was attacked.

I was a bit confused by your post, so sorry if I completely misunderstood something.

I am saying that if North Korea has nukes, it's a lot easier for them to lob them into China than it is for them to hit the US. Shoot a few missiles and they'll kill millions in China's heavily populated metropolitan areas. China would eradicate NK completely, I was just saying that NK could do some serious hurt.

Yes, and it would be far easier for the U.S. to nuke Canada than North Korea. Why the hell would they want to do that though? Same goes for North Korea attacking China. You don't nuke your allies.

If North Korea wasn't insane enough to attack the U.S., who's they're enemy, then I don't see why they would even consider attacking China, who's their friend. It doesn't seem like a point even worth considering. Of course they could hurt China (prior to being obliterated in return), but not even brain-dead monkeys would be stupid enough to do that.

Quote
Why?
One, because they're commie buddies. They probably want to support their ideology in a world where there are only five (I think?) communist countries.

Two, because China wouldn't want a bunch of shit blowing up right by their border. It would lead to chaos and undoubtedly affect China. If nothing else, the North Koreans are going to try and get the hell out of there, with China being one of the two closest destinations. So it would benefit them to prevent NK from becoming a war zone.

They're a very needy country, and obviously China's helped out. So three, because China has quite a bit invested in North Korea.
