Nope. I don't think it's a good occasion. It's a bad offer, yes, but not a reason to insult someone.
And, oh please.
So many good terms to use instead. :)
I was alluding to a specific occurrence that had recently happened. Obviously from the message the person knew they were not giving a fair offer, but rather asking for the item for nearly free. I consider begging for items to be....yeah....that's the word.
I hate that word :|
N00b, noob, they're both ridiculous. I can't even stomach using the one with 0s even if I'm trying to be a smartass (ie calling myself one?) But seriously, I hate the word something fierce.
I generally just call the person a twat and find that it generally hits the nail on the head far better then going illiterate on them.
I never use it unless I'm referring to myself and something stupid I've done. Like when the Ping user feature came out and I sat there trying to figure out the code for it, with brackets, and User= and what not.
After I finally found the general thread about it I shook my head and said "I'm such a fucking n00b some times. I should be banned from the internets." and my cat ran away, all sad.
But I get the word is insulting, but it's a made up word. That isn't even a real one (Zeros? Really?) so how can it possibly upset anyone? Although on Neo it is a bit over used. Probably because on Neo you can't call someone a flaming asshole of death.

As it may be known already, I feel the same way about the word pretentious, so I definitely know we're you're coming from. It's just one of those words you see everyone throwing around that after a while you just wish it'd disappear from everyone's vocabulary. -____-
...
I find it irritating when it isn't used in the right context or added to the end of a sentence that didn't need it.
Lurking like lurkers do...
There are a plethora of more colorful words you can call an absolute fuckwit, and someone uses "N00b"?
Shows the depth of their creativity.
It's spelled with zeroes because it comes from 13375p34k.
you know what word makes ME twitch? audit.
noob is like THE official word of the internet, but it can easily be avoided! just shut off your computer.

The only time it irks me is when it's used out of context. I hate it and I'm sure new people do as well, when someone will call a newbie a n00b. No, a newbie is just that. A newbie. A n00b is an annoying person.
I see no reason to use the word n00b on subeta when we have such a large vocabulary of creatively combined expletives to chose from. For example, I find the term 'monkey dick' to be much more satisfying. ;)
Anyway, n00b has become as much a part of the internet as the URL bar at the top of the screen. You'll just have to learn to live with it, I'm afraid.
Seeing the word n00b/noob reminds me of RuneScape.
Here, I prefer to honor n00bish people with the more descriptive (and equally insulting) term tard.
...or I would, if everyone I met here wasn't so damn nice. :D
It makes me cringe.
However, that is just because I expect a bunch of them to ambush me or something and than I will have to find yet another clever way to vanish away from them :D
^win^
I too find that it annoys me, mostly because using the word n00b seriously is entirely uncreative. When you're really annoyed with someone, generally you should be able to come up with something out of the plethora of expletives out there.
is quite good at creative cussing, I have found. :)
Every time I've seen this or been called this, the only thing I can think is that the person using it is WAY to full of themselves.
My general problem with words like this aren't necessarily the words themselves, but the context in which they're used. When a user is complaining about how much they hate "noobs" they just look like pompous asses. Everyone was a "noob" at some point. And to act like you're somehow superior to them because you've been doing something longer is just... Dumb. Especially since we're talking about friggin' subeta. I don't see how insulting it can really be to someone that you know more about an online pet site than they do. I feel the same way when I play WoW. I mean, I like subeta and RPGs like WoW and Everquest, but how proud can you really be that you're an elitist jerk about a friggin' game?
