Ugh, I was gonna apply at Hot Topic too. I need to go back into stock. I loved being a stock girl. :) Atleast Walmart isn't ripping off their customers with overpriced items and being pushy about sales. I'd much rather shop at Walmart than Teavana. Cottage cheese doubles are an expensive habit. >_> There is actually an Entemann's store down the road that starts at $16 an hour. So I don't think it's ALL retail and food. Just most of it.
Wow what the fuck you said you live in Pittsbourg???? WHAT??? Ive never once in my LIFE heard of $16/hr jobs that aren't factory jobs... theres literally nowhere in my area that pays that much. Youre lucky if you get $8. Where else have you worked? Because when you've been through as many places as me, and you talk to some more people about it... yes, it's all places. Like I said, 15 jobs in the last 4 years. All retail/food service except for one, which was a call center, which paid me the highest of any and it was $10.50.
Hot Topic is a weird choice to apply for stock. I don't know about the bigger stores but most stores are very small and there's not even stock shifts unless you're a TL or manager. It's all sales and floor stuff. Our managers just this month started coming in about 2-3 hours early to do shipment, but other than that there's no such thing, we usually just do shipment during the shift. It's an okay company to work for though.
I wonder if your state has a higher minimum wage than we do though, it's $7.25 here so if thats your minimum out there and you apply at HT, don't expect more than that. Pretty sure most stores try to schedule you for the fewest hours possible as well. When I started I was getting about 8 a week and that is pretty typical even now for people with lower sales.

Oh no, I didn't mean I was gonna apply for stock at Hot Topic! :p I meant, I was a stock girl and I miss it. You can't really find stock jobs anywhere. Like you said, most places just do the shipment during the shifts. I was at Hollister for three years as stock, but other than that, I was only at Pacsun, which was only seasonal, so I never got hours, and DEB, where the hours were pretty good. The minimum wage here is $7.25, which is what I've always made in retail, hence why I'm looking for jobs outside of that. But Teavana paid $8.00.
The $16 job is for a company called Bimbo Bakeries. All of their jobs start way above minimum wage. Maybe check is there are any stores by you!
My sister and I were laughing our asses off at the Teavana memes. FIVES TIMES NO, SIXTH TIME YES. HAHAH. I just got a text from the only friend I had at Teavana (only because I was friends with her from high school) and she said she's about to just walk out because she's fed up with them.
OH lmfao ok my bad. Hmm I've never heard of the company but $16/hr sounds amazing lol. Teavana paid $8 here as well but I think they do that just to brag about how they pay higher than other places, and then only give you 5 hours a week so you're making less than you would anywhere else anyway :|
Ugh wow. It's kind of amazing how ubiquitous that attitude is, I know SO many people that have had to walk out after just snapping. They're just a terrible company. I hate how much I love the teas ): strawberry cream is on sale right now for like $6 and ugh I want it so bad
