Oh, thank you! :) I wish I was brought up that way, too. I like to compliment people, even on some strange little things, but it always feels so unnatural and tacky!

Poor cat! :D I was really upset about it too, especially when I read the books again last year. Had to stop reading just to feel sad and angry for a few minutes. :P

I simply have to respond to what you said about how complimenting people feels unnatural and tacky. I have a little story that I think is valuable. When I was only in the 3rd grade (and that was in 1963, a LONG time ago) I enjoyed reading the books from the shelves in our class room. Each class had a couple of shelves of age appropriate books that were considered the "library" for that room. We also had a larger school library (I think, it was a small school in a small town)

Anyway, I came across a book on manners & even though my mom was very big on manners I was keen to learn more. I read that book with great interest & I will never forget what it said about giving people compliments. The book explained how it does sometime feel awkward to compliment people & I believe it even said that some people might have a difficult time accepting a compliment. So it said that if someone compliments you that the mannerly thing to do was simply say, "Thank you," as opposed to something like, "oh no, I didn't do anything." It was emphasizing how if you can receive a compliment graciously by simply saying thank you that it's a gift to the giver of the compliment.

Now with your post you have given ME that wonderful gift of thanking me for the compliment!! :) And as for giving compliments, it gets easier the more you do it, so if you like doing it I would encourage you to keep on, even if it feels awkward at times...ever hear of "fake it til you make it" well it's one of those things and I have found that when I give ppl compliments they are usually quite touched and happy. I think we live in a world where we could use a lot more complimenting so I thank you for posting to me about it and I DO believe that the more you do it the more natural it will feel.

I think that by responding to MY compliment it was a way of complimenting me on giving a compliment so you've just spread some more wonderful holiday cheer & the more I give to others, the better I feel. It's always been that way for me, even when I was a child, and for that I'm grateful. I had a lot given to me as a small child & my parents were not rich in finances but they were rich in their hearts & they made Christmas magical & people like you who do giveaways are contributing to the magic in MY life and for that I am truly grateful!!
