I've been picking floating flowers while questing and after not liking the new mechanic for the Lumi fairies over on Kumos, I admit, it's now starting to grow on me. (I swear, the hold-timer was adjusted slightly for Vesnali too, which is much appreciated!)

However, I have spoken with friends and also noticed other players mentioning that the new mechanic throws them off while questing/restocking and... I gotta agree with that. I understand why changes have been made to the mechanic and I appreciate the effort that's going into curbing auto-clickers and auto-grabbers, but I wanted to suggest a tweak that might make it a little easier for those of us who feel like we're being suddenly thrown into the backrooms whenever we click a flower. 😂

Would it be possible to have to directly click-hold a flower to grab it, instead of being forced into a blurry screen and that small "Hold to pick it up!" window? That would avoid the "hold here to pick the flower up" window entirely, while keeping the click&hold mechanic of the new system. Possibly with the right-click feature disabled to make it easier for people on mobile (I've seen mobile players bringing up the issue of getting the "right click" menu for the image when they're trying to hold to pick a flower up). Add a little "flower picked!" message once the flower is collected (less invasive, like the "pets healed!" message for the Healer when you heal all your pets). Or maybe have the floating item image transition into a checkmark, if it's possible code-wise.

If the popup is part of the anti auto-clicker mechanic, would it at least be possible to move the click&hold window that pops up elsewhere to make it easier for those of us on bigger desktop resolutions?

[edit] After some poking around, I've figured out that it's possible to move the click&hold window and remove the blur effect with customCSS! Accessibility ftw! 🙌

Code for those who may need it /removes blur effect and moves floating item card to top left of screen/ div.floating-catcher { backdrop-filter: none!important; place-items: start!important; }

[edit] Day 2 of using the code and I'm much less bothered about having to click&hold to pick the flower up now that the popup box isn't forcing me to move my mouse to the center of the screen. My wrist is happier too. :D

Thank you for posting that code! If you figure out a way to have the floating flower in the upper left corner, please let us know.

The click, click and hold and click again mechanic has not grown on me. Here are some issues that I've noticed:

  1. It does not always appear immediately upon the page loading. It oftentimes has a delayed appearance. This has made me miss quite a few flowers already.
  2. If the flower has expired, you still have to click, and click and hold before it tells you that the flower has expired. Well, that was even more of a waste of time.
  3. Waste of time. I calculated how many seconds it takes to locate the flower, click, click and hold, and click again. It takes just under 5 seconds for me to complete this task. I also kept track of how many flowers I performed this task on yesterday - 97 flowers. If you multiply 5 seconds by 97, you get 485 seconds. If you divide 485 by 60 seconds to get that in minutes, that comes to just over 8 minutes! of clicking, click and hold, and click again that I wasted yesterday! Under the old system, it took less than 1 second to click the flower. 1x97=97 seconds. 97 divided by 60 equals a little over one and a half minutes. That is a 400% increase in time wasted! Oh my goodness. And that's just the first day of this event.

As stated in the news comments:

It&;s funny reading the feedback here - folks in the shoutbox have said the opposite and like the little tap to earn the item.

I'd be thrilled with a little tap to earn the item. This isn't a little tap. This is a tap to bring up a pop up, a tap and hold, and another tap to close the pop up.

I&;ll keep making it so that other areas of the site drop them too so that this isn&;t the only avenue!

Yes, please. I am looking forward to that.

The code is more or less the same as the previous one! figured it out.

For the revamped floaters, it's just a dash instead of the underscore in the class name. You can keep the code itself identical other than that. If you already have the old floating item code, go to your customCSS page, search for ".floating_item" and replace it with ".floating-item" instead.

Important to note is that the item will still move around a little.

For those who don't have the floating code in their customCSS:

Floating item code /Moves floating items to the top left of the page/ .floating-item { border: 2px solid blueviolet; position: absolute !important; left: 190px !important; top: 5px !important; }

Oh, thank you! That will save a second or so to locate the flower. There's still the issue of click, click and hold and click again wasting time, but the left corner presentation will help many of us.

Edit: It seems feedback here has resulted in a change to the pop-up and click away mechanic (very pleased by that change!) Due to the change, the flower is presenting in the header. If someone has the code to make it present a little lower, please share that here. Thank you for doing the hard work for the rest of us!

Looks like the floaters are now click-and-hold, without the fullscreen window! You also get a little message telling you that the item is in your inventory.

Thanks, I edited my comment as you were typing your message. Is the flower presenting in the top header for you? I'd like to move the flower in the 'white' area so that it's more visible.

You can adjust it fairly easily, yes.

In the floating item css, find the "top: 5px" part, and increase 5px to something like 50. I play with a "lite" layout (no header image), so I sadly can't give you a more accurate number, you may need to tweak it a few times to get the position just right for you.

Thank you very much! I'm going to tinker with it. As you can tell, I don't know anything about the CustomCSS. I just know what feels good and what doesn't when navigating this site, and I am very happy that our feedback led to this positive change. I hope you collect lots of flowers to shower your friends! I appreciate your help!

You're welcome, glad I could help! CustomCSS is fun to mess with and incredibly useful for accessibility, it's honestly one of my favorite parts of the site. Hope you get lots of flowers and coins as well! 😊

I tried the new CSS, but the floating flowers still load elsewhere on the page. I'm concerned about missing them if they appear below where I'm scrolling or just not seeing them because I have to focus on the whole page instead of one area.

Please, please don't ping me. Please.

They will always snap into the frame on the page, they can't / won't load in other areas.

I apologize, I don't understand--what "frame"? Do you mean the area that is visible on our screen, regardless of device or screen resolution or zoom in/out?

Please, please don't ping me. Please.

I have found that if I'm not at the top of the page the flower is on it will wiz onto the section of the page I am on. Then it will scroll with you up and down the page so that you will see it. To collect it just click on it and hold until it says it's in your inventory. A ring will appear around the flower, like you are charging the flower. It's really hard to miss the floating flowers now. I like this system better than the CSS. Is this the way it will be for all floating items now ?

Thank you. I, personally, still like them in one area so I know where to look.

can we have the old way back for those playing on desktop? we can just click on it? it's easy to click and hold from a mobile phone or tablet but it's not as comfortable to do with the mouse on desktop.

Oof, can't honestly say I'm happy to see this one make it over here. I too find the new method uncomfortable and just plain annoying to be honest (it's also not working at all on Chrome for me but that's probably just on my end) :s Is there any CSS to stop it flying around at least? for me it's a two-part annoyance here, not only do I have to hunt down the item again but now it's blinking and zooming around - man, I just want a static image. I saw on the news comments this seems to have been added in specifically to stop us from just fixing the items to the top corner, but I don't get why? If most people on the site are doing something, it seems... counter-intuitive? to get rid of that or at least make it harder to do... that says to me that most people don't like the floating items so idk why they're being forced onto us now. :s

THIS! I hate the new flower grab and it was forced upon us. Click and hold is not working for me, especially when they keep showing up in the bottom right hand corner. It takes roughly 5 seconds to capture the flower once held down. It's a time waster.

This has made me not collect flowers when I loved Vesnali.

The other method should of been left alone. Click and done.

i like the floating items and hold mechanic, i actually find it smoother than the tap especially when playing on mobile. i always had issues with the click mechanic pulling up a new drop down which jarred me.

i like how smooth the transition is at the moment with no extra screen popping up. hope it can be adjusted to be accessible for people, am also having some issues with it popping up in the same spot repeatedly - sometimes i miss it in the bottom right corner of my phone, and i liked looking for the items floating around :/

i saw someone somewhere say that this is the case to keep people from setting up bots to continually collect flowers. thats why they need to be randomly placed

If people are using bots,, they should be frozen, full stop.

One of the main reasons I like being able to specify the position of the flowers is so that I can either put them where I can see them easily OR move them out of my way. I wish we could turn them off/on as we please if we can't put them in a specified spot. Otherwise, they get in the way of buttons and such and gets really annoying.
