Tried it out and it was very simple and easy to do! There's links to both legacy and Kumos now so I can see if the coding is off off (on both) or just being messed with, though I didn't detract for coding, just made a note that "on both sites the text ran over" sort of thing.

I tend to want to up-vote everyone, because I recognize effort, so obviously I am probably not an ideal reviewer- so more detailed criteria might be helpful. Sort of get everyone on the same page.

But then again, it might not be, it might get overwhelming trying to figure it out, so a check might be best after all.

Not fussed about the SP, that is nice, same with the achievement. I could see doing 5 of these a day but what happens when the achievements are met? Will the reviewers start to drop out? Unless they're really big achievement goals that will take years to do XD Over all, like the idea, and the way it is headed!

So I've only done two so far (from the same person who I suspect owns most of the queue. You've specifically told us not to judge legacy profiles if kumos looks ok, but honestly both of the profiles I reviewed look totally normal and ready on legacy but are completely out of alignment on Kumos. I have several in the queue (couldn't tell you where they are though) and one of them also has a layout that works basically completely fine on Legacy with the exception of some spacing on stats, but completely breaks on Kumos. And it was made before the recent layout break, (made around last summer). I didn't let the Kumos layout affect the score but did leave it in the comments.

Well, congrats on having that experience. It's certainly not universal.

It's entirely possible that a reason I'd once experienced that was because of topics relating to fantasy violence, though the reception was not even reasonable. I got straight-up made fun of for things that weren't even related to my idea. Nobody needs that and I'm concerned about this judging system inviting more of it for people who don't deserve it.

People here can be needlessly critical when they don't see the value in someone else's perspective, that's seen even in the newly reinstated shoutbox.

My pet

Helium was nominated for the spotlight, and now they're not. (I found where I'd downloaded a copy of their profile, and it did have a nomination.) I didn't get an event that the profile was denied, nor do I have anything showing up on my Denial History page. Does this mean that enough people gave them a low rating that they got denied and kicked out of the queue?

I've been waiting for my pet to have a chance the win the spotlight and i just looked and it says he did but it's not the news posts or anything i didn't get notified or anything for it in kinda about to cry right now how did he win the spotlight without being spotlighted and it's just a waste no one gets to see the work i put into the treasure or anything. I'm kinda upset how did it win a week ago but i don't see it anywhere (March 20th) there's no post on the news, i really hope I'm mistaken and it was posted on the news but with all these changes im having a hard time understanding the news anyway. i feel like I'm throwing a tantrum right now but it's just my luck 😭😭😭

i literally just judged yours 5 minites ago sweetheart!

in fact none of the pets after DJ got posted and there were two winners on March 20th one including my pet like that's a huge letdown and I hope I'm the only one who feels that way with all the effort put into making his page and collecting almost 1000 treasure pieces of food items. I kept checking and checking to see if he won and he won without me even knowing it or getting notified, really sucks 🥺

I also came here to say this. I haven't found a single pet that hasn't used imgur. That ban really did a number on pet profiles, sadly.

what imaging site do you guys use in the UK because thats probably the most popular here in america and i had no idea yall couldnt see anything

What I'm trying to say is that, as much as I would personally like Subeta to cool off on encouraging judgement of others' and their creations as a form of fun, at the very least I think it would be better to have more clear-cut rules, guidelines, or suggestions for what kind of content is okay or not to include in the feedback section. Maybe a filter for unnecessarily attacking language, even.

I'm sure it'll be an unpopular opinion unfortunately, but I'm speaking as someone who can't bring myself to participate in most community things because of my experiences here. I would very much like if my perspective could at least be considered reasonably by those who read it, even if it changes nothing.

-pats- Ah, actually I haven't been seeing many pet spotlights show up in the news either. You're not alone at least, that would definitely feel pretty awful. I hope everyone's pets get their moment to shine.

Had a few really cute/fun pets and some that were more horror/gore themed. Was wondering if it might be possible to have some sort of toggle on the users end to mark for stuff that might be triggering and have a preference toggle on the reviewers end as well to ensure compatiblity.? Stories can be very intense and I don't think either party should have to be uncomfortable or feel bad about what they can or cannot handle.

This is exciting! I really liked going through and reviewing some pets today. I do have to say that I find the 'name' thing kind of a funny criteria to consider, since I feel like a lot of us are just... people who make OCs/pets with names that we happen to like. I generally don't like super 'on-the-nose' names but some people do, and that might seem on-theme and like a net positive to some people, but to me it can be kinda too much and detract from the character instead, lol. Some of these things are just so subjective! (Lowkey I'm also just thinking about my IRL job and how naming an animal something like 'Princess' or 'Precious' seems to guarantee that they'll be a demon when they're at the vet, lmao.)

With the 'What's Next' list... I think the idea of seasonal pet spotlight themes could be really cute. But I'm not really a huge fan of the idea of special trophies for certain winners. Like, I guess it would be fine and it could be fun for some people? But I just really like that pet spotlight is winnable by anyone willing to put the effort in, and it's more like... a showcase of the various creative talents of people who care about pets. I don't really like the idea of there being some kind of Super Special Spotlight Trophies for people who happen to create the right type of pet profile for certain times of year and win at the right time and are most popular or highest-rated whatever. I really, really don't like the idea of pet spotlight as a popularity contest. I like that with pet spotlight, there are no actual losers, it's just our pets getting their turn in the spotlight.

I 100% agree with Past's post. In my mind, simple is better and I would really hope to keep this as objective as possible. I have very specific taste in things that other people might not share, and others are the same but with totally opposite taste! I also think that a lot of people have bias toward certain styles that are more popular and trendy, and it really bothers me to think that perfectly readable, easy-to-navigate profile layouts might get low scores due to subjective taste. I do really like that the pet spotlight is a showcase of a variety of talent levels and I think we should try to keep it as such.

I don't think there should be anything like story grading or rating. To me that's more for a writing class, hah, and this is a showcase of the creative work that people put into their pets. Not everyone even writes actual stories; I prefer character descriptions myself. Personally, the only thing that I've been looking out for are typos or blatant grammar errors, and I wouldn't give someone a worse score for writing that is objectively fine but subjectively doesn't appeal to me.

yes i really do need more

This was fun! It is also inspiring me to get back to work on my pets so I can get feedback from users.

The only issue I found (besides one gross story that I wished I hadn't read just before bed) was that the guidelines say not to hold a borked Legacy profile against anyone, but several of the profiles I saw had borked Kumos profiles. I gave them 2s since Kumos is supposed to be the standard based on the instructions, but since their profiles looked normal in Legacy, I suspect this isn't actually their fault.

Thank you for adding a fun new way for us to engage with the site!

Ohh thank you!! Maybe being in the pilot review pool makes it not show up as nominated anymore or something?

Also I'm stunned that there's been a spolight winner every day for the past week or whatever :O I had no idea. I've reported several times over the past two weeks on site and on Discord that the spotlight news posts weren't running, but I didn't realize there were that many winners missed!

lol that's hilarious about the pet names XD My wildest dog is named Valentine sooo yeah I can see what you mean!

Okay, this is such a good idea! I cannot remember how pets get nominated, so I currently have no Pet Owner side of this experience, though if the system continues to improve, it's something I'm excited to pursue soon.

Things I like:

  • I love that this gives the community a way to work together on something that we all love, which is TIME CONSUMING for staff, to help narrow it down! It's fun to feel useful as a group, and I think this will be a great win-win as it gets smoothed out.
  • The rating system with the stars felt fair. I liked that the text that pops up helps guide people to which star to choose.
  • The page is clean, loads well, and is easy to use. LOVE that we can type text so that we can praise the parts that really work for us, and actually give specific feedback on why we might have chosen 1-2 stars, so that the creator knows what needs some attention.
  • I love that this has a built-in moderation so that people can't be trolls and hopefully discourage voting down just based on personal preferences or grudges.

Things that came to mind:

  • I do think it might be good to clarify for people who are afraid of hurting feelings that this is not a publicly viewed star rating system like, say the Zon or GoodReads. It's just a helpful way for the queue to be sorted, and isn't something that everyone's going to see/make the creator feel bad about. I feel like this might be a big hangup for some, and while obviously not everyone needs to jump in on this if it makes them feel uncomfortable, maybe it would reassure others that it's not a way to personally insult people.
  • Is there a way to require feedback if you rate "needs more work" and not just click and go?

I am on the fence on whether some checkboxes populate if you click a low star/needs some more work rating to help people narrow down WHY they are voting low instead of just clicking a low star and not saying anything helpful. Might be more work and confusion, but wondering how the "needs more work" profiles get reviewed again? As said, I think it could be an issue where people are just rating low because it's a preference, not an actual issue, and with no explanation, who knows what they feel needs work?

Just got yours in the queue and reviewed it a few minutes ago! (Loved, btw.)

There were a couple that just... did not vibe with the theme that they were going for. Like another user pointed out, really cutesy themed but otherwise borderline gore and/or horror.

Which I don't see how that fits in the whole "Keep Subeta PG-13" because some of that isn't but that's my two cents. I wish we had a trigger warning or a skip button that didn't count towards our daily tally.

I think this is an exciting change! The only thing is, that with just the review page, I was a bit confused on what would be considered "ready for spotlight"

Like, do typos matter? Clearly I need to go and read the separate rules for pet spotlight qualifications. I'm trying to rate fairly, but I worry that maybe my idea of what is spotlight ready (or what is outstanding or goes above and beyond, etc.) might be different than others and then my ability to review will be tanked. Or if it will naturally filter out over time. There is also just the nature that it might be harder for people to rate 1s or 2s, like me, (so I haven't yet, I just don't submit a review if I'm unsure haha). If it is private to just help staff, that would be good to know! I would hate to know that someone will know they got rated a 1 or a 2. Maybe instead of a star-rating, it's not a "1/5" or "3/5" or "5/5", it's just text options: "This profile is not ready" "This profile is almost ready" "This profile is ready for spotlight" "This profile ---" "One of the best profiles I've ever seen!"

After reading the whole topic on legacy, I have one question and also one suggesstion. ^-^

Question If I would decide to review 5 pets at any day I want to start, but aren't able to complete all, will I start the other day at the remain pets of the day I started with review?

Suggestion I would feel extreme more comfortable, when the "Earn 50,000 sP per review" would also be optional and I can 100% denied this. --> I don't need the extra sP, even it's time consuming. I would prefer if Melody could get my money for Luminaire. So maybe it's possible to donate my sP to her.

What I also want to say It's a nice idea to involve the subeta community and helping with new pet spotlights. And the criteria from page 1 are easy to understand for me. But I wonder for how long will this run? Three months, six months, shorter, longer? I often miss a deadline when things are new and in beta. Or we are asked to try out a new feature. Sometimes I spend most of the time to read through a whole topic and then the deadline is here and I wasn't able to test something new. >o< (I try to avoid to write the same problems or new suggestions as X users before. cough)

I am in favor of adding a skip button, so that people don't end up having to review pets they're uncomfortable with or don't have the proper skills to review (say a pet that has an interactive profile that doesn't work on mobile, or a pet that has colors that don't show up well for someone with colorblindness etc.)

I would avoid introducing 'trigger warnings' on the site as it's a very deep rabbit hole that could lead to a lot of potential issues (what is a trigger? what if someone forgets to tag their pets? how do we retroactively tag pets?)

Subeta is, at the end of the day, a PG-13 site that always had some level of 'edginess'. We have bloodred and nightmare pets, zombies, experiments that are borderline body horror, there's items like ... Subeta is full of potential triggers. We should be able to use any of the 'official' site items, pets or themes on our pet profiles (within reasons).

I remember the spotlight used to be stricter about darker themes and stuff like more explicit violence. Reason given by staff was that spotlight winners show up on the front page of the site to non-logged in users, so they kind of act as the face of the site. I know in the past pets have been denied for being too graphic, or dealing with themes that were deemed too mature. I think clarifications on this would be great and help us assess spotlight pets a bit better.

I agree with everything Past said! yes to a skip button, no to trigger warnings for the reasons Past mentioned - mainly that it's a rabbit hole and almost everything is triggering to one person or another. (Just as an example, even my most cheerful balloon pets could be disturbing to someone with globophobia.)

Some of things on the site (certain items, graveyard pets, and zombie skins for instance) make me uncomfortable, but by playing the game, I accept the chance that I'll encounter them. Likewise, by signing up to review pets, I'm accepting the chance that I'll encounter pet profiles that make me uncomfortable. If it got to the point where I was disturbed too often or couldn't handle it well, then I'd quit reviewing pets. That said, I love the idea of having the skip button, so that I can bypass the uncomfortable stuff, all the more so since I wouldn't be able to give an unbiased review on it. (Skip button is also a good idea for the other reasons Past mentioned!)

But! I agree with Past so much that clarifications would be very helpful on what content/themes are considered too dark and/or mature. I think it would be useful to pet owners as well as reviewers!
