It snowed yesterday again when i left to travel 1 hour north.I had to get a shot for Lacey to stay at a kennel for a short trip.It is warmer at nights and it got to -1C and up to +2C when i went out yesterday.(35F)..While we were in the vets office Lacey was nose to nose with a cat that lives in the vets office and a great big German Shepard too.I was very surprised by all this.Usually She's barking and chasing them..She was very well behaved..Ha Ha Ha.

I had a bit of a scare with Honey the past week. The vet thought she might have Cushings from some symptoms she was showing. She went in for a day of tests and after a few days the vet called back and said there is no sign of Cushings from the tests and all her other labs looked very good (thyroid, liver and kidneys). She said Honey was in great shape for her age. She advised changing her diet, start her on a supplement and get her a monthly allergy shot to address her problems.

She's 11, so is Mimi. I got them both at the same time from a local rescue last year. These days I only adopt senior dogs.

I miss having dogs. My last pup, Penny, was 17 when she passed back in 2019- she was such a sweet dog. Mixed breed, part terrior/ part poodle we think. My girl before that was almost 14 and she was a yellow lab. Also a very sweet natured girl. I went a while without pets then I rescued a senior stray black cat I'd seen around my neighbourhood for years. So sad, apparently someone moved and left him behind. I got him to the vet to get checked out and he stayed with me as an inside cat for a little over 3 years until he passed in his sleep one night. He was an absolute gem! Just so happy to have a safe place to 'retire'. Vet figured, near as she could tell, he was around 15 but it's hard to be sure when they been on their own outside for so many years. My last cat Cutie-Pie was rehomed with me. She was being bullied by another cat in the home she was at so I took her in. She was with me 6 months and then diagnosed with cancer in her jaw. Poor girl- she was always timid at her other home but she absolutely thrived in a one cat home. She had a good 6 months as queen of the house before she got sick. She was only 9.

I often think I may get another animal but whenever I decide it will be a rescue and definitely a senior/ mature cat or dog.

I'm deathly allergic to cats, I can't even touch them. It's a good thing I'm totally a dog person. Honey and Mimi will likely be my last, I'm afraid of future ones outliving me. But that will allow me to donate more to the rescues I support, so that's good. I got my first dogs (that were totally mine) in 1994. I had a few when I was a kid but I can't say they were really mine. Honey and Mimi are my 10th and 11th dogs.

My ex was very allergic as well so I hadn't had cats since I was a kid. I grew up with both. I thought about fostering dogs but figured I might get too attached. lol- I know myself too well! I would absolutely get attached! Besides, working full-time would make that tricky. I hope to retire in a few years and would consider adopting a rescue dog then maybe.
