would it be possible instead to randomize the order of avatars (and which avatars are initially visible) upon loading the page, and then have the "load more avatars" option ADD another set of avatars instead of removing and replacing the previous ones? like how online stores will initially load, say, 50 products, and then when you get to the bottom you can click a button to load another 50 below that, and so on. except instead of the avatars being in a set order so everyone always starts out seeing the same set of entries, the randomization would make it so any entry could be in the first batch (or the second/third/etc batch) for that individual instance of loading the page.
idk how feasible that is, but it sounds like it would be more fair in ensuring everyone has a more equitable chance of being seen, AND ensures there is a way to know you've seen all the avatars and can compare them side-by-side before making any decisions when voting.
I could try something like that! I might consider breaking it out depending on how big the contest, is too.
Honestly, for most contests I think the average entries will be 30-60 (I could be wrong! i hope they're massively successful and bring tons of people to the site and start getting hundreds of entries ;)) and so having an option to just display them all could also work. For ones with 100+ entries it could switch to this method.

I'm sorry if I sounded like I would expect this to work perfectly fine now. I understand it's a testing process so my messages were meant as an immediate feedback of what works and what doesn't.
I don't understand why the restrictions of all loaded outfits need to be checked at once. Is it to save the user some trouble to check which ones are eligible? But I would think that the majority of users create new outfits for contests so it's rather clear to them which ones they'd like to enter. So why not wait with the check against restriction until the user selected one outfit? Then a meaningful message could point out the requirements that are not met (if necessary) and the user can chose a different one.
This feature will be a smashing success - there will be tons and tons of contests. It is an amazing feature! So the system checking 20 or more outfits each time for so many users might turn into a bottleneck quickly.
from a user standpoint i definitely think it's preferable to have all entries visible at once (in a randomized order) whenever possible. i just wasn't sure if having them all on the page at the same time would cause some sort of issue and that's why you were keeping the limit on simultaneously visible entries so low.
i'm still SO excited about this, but i wanted to say i really dislike the way outfits are displayed in the contests. when you go to reload more entries, it just shows them to you at random, so you're potentially missing loads of entries. i feel like it would be preferable to have them in order of entry so you don't miss any! (also apologies if anyone has already pointed this out)
can't seem to edit my post but i meant to ping , not
posting this here too just in case it gets pushed out of the shoutbox by whenever you happen to be around, but i seem to have found an issue with the contest submission flow: if you delete an outfit that you have submitted to a contest, it no longer appears in the contest entries so you can no longer click "remove" in order to re-enter. i did things in the wrong order so i'm unable to resubmit an adjusted entry to the "dress me" contest (i added a background bc i was unhappy with the fact that i hadn't chosen one). hoping to get it in before the contest closes :(
the ideal solution here would be to automatically remove an outfit from any contests it is in once deleted, i think, but i don't know how possible this is on your end of course.
some more feedback. currently, all contests are still displaying an end date of "1 week from now". it's been a few days now since they started, so surely the end date isn't in a week from today. it would be good to know an exact date (if not also an exact time, subeta time?) so people know how long they have to make outfits and get them submitted.

Keith, I still can't enter the crown contest - I've been trying for a week now, I think. It loads and tries to verify my "first 50" outfits and then spins forever (I've left it for hours and no progress is made).
I've been going through and making most of my public outfits private to try to reduce its workload, and I've got them now down under 500 public, but it's not helping...
You should have a button for manually looking through the next 50 outfits, no more needing to make them all private 😭

Keith, I'm also still trying to enter the contests but it only loads the oldest 50 with no next button. For the item specific contests it's also still not verifying the outfits i know have the item. Is there still an update ongoing or am I missing something?
i had the same issue so i ended up switching all those old outfits from public to private, so i only had a handful of public outfits, including my contest entries. the good news is you no longer have to do this by painstakingly opening every single outfit in new tab, clicking edit, and then switching it to private/unlisted. here's how i was able to do it:
as you do this, those outfits will be switched to "private" and disappear from the list. even though there is sometimes a delay of a few seconds, you can just keep clicking the buttons under multiple different outfits, wait for them to disappaer and have their place taken by a new batch. with this method, i switched 12 pages worth of avatars from public to private in only a few minutes. this left me with 6 public outfits, a small enough number that when i went back to the contest page and tried to load my entries, it went through quickly and without issue.
I did this and was able to enter a few! but now the one eye contest won't validate my entry. I've tried just about everything to get it to load or validate and I know the outfit is all owned and not above the cost limit. Not sure id these are other people with the same issue?
I can't see entries beyond the first 15. There's a "loading circle" and a button to "Load More Entries", but upon clicking it I see the hated-barely-visible-gimme-back-normal-loading-indicator blue "loading line" on top - and, once that finishes loading to about 75%, the page reloads silently and I'm back where I started. (This is my newer browser of the two, FF 122)
Also, my default in wardrobe outfits, as far as the wardrobe's concerned, seems to be "Public" - but I don't know how the contest sees it (considering Kumos believes all items ever are already in my wishlist... can't guarantee a thing).
Item prizes are, of course, a thing, and a contest system might as well make them official :D I wonder if prizes can only be set as "this is for , this is for " or if complex things like "these are the prizes for the first 3 places, to be randomly distributed between winners; these are the 7 consolation prizes for the next 7 folks" might be done... or need to be done.

a few updates went out over the last few days, but most importantly: you can enter outfits directly into contests, from your outfits page. you have a button, and then it'll show all of the eligible contests it can be entered in. this should make it much easier to enter into contests, when you know which outfit you're going to use!

I'm having the same issue. I entered an outfit then messed around with it some more and made https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfit/1525071/ and wanted to re-enter with that one and it just won't let me enter. I see the button to enter outfit 1525071 into contests, but when I click it says "view my entry" but I removed my previous entry so I can't see it or remove it again...
Oh if it helps- I deleted the previous outfit which maybe messed things up? I can't remember if I deleted it before or after removing it from the contest.
voting has started for one of the contests but i'm running into some issues.
it says "During the voting phase, you can vote for your favorite entries"—entries, plural. but after voting for one entry, i clicked the "load more entries" button and the voting button disappeared from all entries. i thought maybe that was a bug, so i refreshed the page, and even tried using the navigation menu to go back to it the "proper" way, and nope—still no more vote buttons. just the one i voted for listed at the top under "Your Votes" but i can't vote for any more.
so am i meant to be able to vote for more than one entry? if so, how? and maybe make it clear how many total votes i have available to use—or if it's unlimited, explicitly state that we can vote for as many entries as we want.
Thanks for the feedback! Lots of changes just went out, and will over the next few hours while I watch voting paterns and feedback from these first few contests. So far:
