for user hovers, i don't think medals make a ton of sense. they're way too small to properly see, and it clutters the interface.

agree with holiday actions; it can be a pain to have to hunt through someone's profile to find the button to click if they don't put it in their signature.

biggest thing I would see being a big improvement item wise(either hover or in search) would be putting the year beside location

For pets I really love the idea of being able to showcase a few of their treasure items :D I also like that idea being used for books read, food, battle items, battle opps defeated, pet friends, leashed info, fun stuff like that ect. maybe it could be a 'Showcase' of sorts that the user could decide what to show for their pet with a toggle? limit it to 3 items and x amount of showcases (so that everything fits, not sure if that's an issue with this kind of thing)

Also would like to add the Pet Spotlight trophy for winners <3

As far as user info goes, I'm all for toggles so people can show what's important to them. I like the idea of showing items from collections, top 3 achievements, status, pet, signature image?, the tot, dance type of buttons, pet, and status.

I use the item hovers all the time. I think they're fine as they are. It is frustrating, though, that they don't appear in restocking shops.

I only use the user hovers during holidays because some of my dear friends like to fancy up their profile pages in ways that hide useful things like "dance", "flower", "trick or treat" and Lumi trees.

I would rather not have any pet information in the hover than there already is. I am always seeing people looking for pets with low ID numbers or specific creation dates and while all of my friends are kind and respectful, I do worry that people who are less so might pester other people for that kind of thing, similar to the occasional person who asks to buy your CWs while you are wearing them.

I know all that data is available on the pet profile page which can be reached from the hover, but I feel like people who might not actually go there to check might take notice.

Please keep in mind that hovers which pop up when you accidentally move your mouse over the wrong thing can be really disorienting if you're having trouble concentrating. The pet leash text will make the pet hovers bigger and I'd rather that not be the case.

User hovers: Status would be great (especially for holidays!); active pet is always nice to see; the link to message is handy; a button to like their HA would be cool!

Item hovers: I use almost all the things that are currently in the item hover (recent user price, add to WL, shop search, wardrobe preview, account search). I've seen the idea of having item uses on there thrown around and I like that (it could even be something as simple as icons: a book for books, hamburger or similar for foods, ball for toys, animal face silhouette for minions). I also like the idea of including official site location (something like: Esther's Shop (2020) or Plot Reward: Faded Memories. If this could include whether things are in stock or not (e.g, Token Shop: Not In Stock) that would be SUPER cool but idk how hard that would be to do & keep up to date.)

they/them/theirs, please.

Weirdly, if an item is a food, I kind of want to know if it's edible-- mostly for things that I didn't realize you COULD feed a pet.

(This might just be a me problem to figure out, though--)

Items: edible/readable - yes please Otherwise, the item hover is perfect for me.

Being able to chose what is shown in the hovers would be great!

For pets:

  • name
  • type
  • Color
  • stats
  • owner
  • Job
  • age/date adopted
  • books read
  • food eaten
  • spotlight winner

Also maybe some kind of blurb, where you can optionally fill in a quote or a short description for your pet? Just 2 lines or so.

For users:

  • name
  • full avatar picture
  • joined date/member for
  • last seen
  • status
  • active Pet
  • link to comment/message
  • shortlinks events (flower, kiss, egg, ...)
  • like avatar
  • link to wishlist

For items:

  • rarity
  • official price
  • rarity maybe a bit more detail than just a number? Especially for those many "holiday items": was it morostide or vesnali (original release)? Same for "game prize" rarity
  • usage (book, food, minion ...)/is it already in collection
  • do I own it
  • for battle items: battle stats

[edit] Another idea for the item hover: maybe expand the concept of "collection" to foods eaten and books read. So you could pick a pet for each of these and have it shown in an item hover if the chosen pet has read the book or eaten food.

Not sure if an even further expansion would be helpful/doable, like, is this item used in an achievement/do I still need it for an achievement.

I know I'm really late to the party here, but I wanted to add some feedback about the item hovers as they currently are on the Kumos site:

  • The amount of "persistence" they have is too high at the moment. On the legacy site, almost the instant your cursor leaves an item the hover disappears, while on Kumos it lingers for maybe about a second. The trouble is, it is so incredibly common to be looking at big lists of items all at once (like, for example, on the new outfits page!) Having that hover linger can make it very difficult to get to an item in the middle of a big list, as it remains covered by all the other hovers that don't disappear quickly.
  • The hovers on Kumos don't seem to adapt (which is to say, pick if the hover should start at the top or bottom of the item) as well as the legacy site; it doesn't seem to take into account the header, which does cut off the hover if they overlap. My laptop screen is pretty small and almost every hover for a wearable item ends up getting cut off one way or another. A big part of this is having the avatar preview being on top rather than on the side, as it is on the legacy site.
  • On the legacy site, we currently have the option "do not show show hex (zombie skin, zapper skin, etc) in item hover previews." I personally always have that option selected, because a lot of the zombie & zapper skins have so much detail that it can be hard to even see smaller, less detailed items (like facial features) on them. It would be nice if that option also carried over to Kumos.
  • It feels a bit unnecessary that the item image is shown on the hover in place of a wearable preview for items that aren't wearable, since the item image is what activates the hover anyway.
  • Lastly, hovers are super useful and it would be nice if they appeared anywhere an item image is seen - I understand them not appearing in main shops but everywhere else should be fair game. For example, both the composting page & directory of compostable items are much more difficult and tedious to deal with without the instant information hovers provide.

Like almost everyone else on this thread, I think the item hovers as they are currently on the legacy site provide a lot of useful information. It would be nice to at least replicate that on Kumos. What's currently missing on the Kumos hovers that are on the legacy site hovers are:

  • Rarity: The rarity (both number & title together) are such a convenient way to judge how easy an item is to obtain and, in a way, how "accurate" the user price is. It could be nice to have an additional breakdown on this, as some other users mentioned on this thread (i.e. where exactly an item comes from for some bigger special rarities like holiday or game items) but even just the rarity as it is now goes a long way. [ul]
  • As an aside, at the moment items on Kumos have a colored border to somewhat distinguish their rarity. I gotta say, I'm not crazy about it - it looks a little tacky and/or out of place? And it can't really replace the clear, understandable information that words in the item hover can provide. I could see those colored borders being really confusing to a newer user, for example.
  • Official Price: It would probably be more helpful if this also indicated what currency it was referring to, but nonetheless this can be useful to see if it's cheaper to buy the item in an official shop rather than user shops without having to actually go to that shop. Maybe this field could be hidden if there is no official price, like how the "weapon tier" doesn't show up on non-weapons?
    • This field may actually be a good place to name & link to the official restock location for an item as well. And, when linking to holiday shops, it would be really handy to link to the appropriate year, if possible.
  • User Shop Search & Account Search Links: These are such a major "ease of use" feature that make it so simple for users to find & acquire items. Personally, I use these links constantly and would be bummed if they never made it over to Kumos. I feel that they surely must also go a long way towards the accessibility of the site for newer or more casual users.
  • Weapon Tier: At minimum, having the weapon tier listed is really handy to tell if you can even use a weapon. Sort of tying into the accessibility that was being discussed in the "Battling in 2024" thread, having a weapon's full stats here may also be useful. But it's possible that would be too much extra clutter and maybe a better spot for that would be in the new item directory.
    • Another aside, though, is that weapon stats could also be improved from what is currently visible in the armory - those stats are missing things such as freezing or stealing or any other unique abilities as well as information about weapons scaling with tier, having more than one attack, etc.
  • [/ul]

I&;ve seen the idea of having item uses on there thrown around and I like that (it could even be something as simple as icons: a book for books, hamburger or similar for foods, ball for toys, animal face silhouette for minions).
I think if anything were to get added to the item hovers, something like this may prove to be the most useful - so many items are sneakily edible! I think small icons would be an unobtrusive way to display this information and if that also included tool-tips to explain what the icons represented then that would make them friendly for newer users as well.

As for user & pet hovers - being able to customize what shows for those individually sounds cool!

    Briefly, for user hovers:

    • If we were able to select what was shown on our own hover, any of the fields that are on the"extra userinfo" widget for current user profiles would be nice to choose from - forum posts, achievements, any of the collections, etc.
    • Getting to pick what pet shows up rather than just the active pet might also be nice.
    • Icons (with tool-tips!) for holiday actions would be a small but useful addition.
    • Including forum titles on the hovers is cool, but I think it would be best to keep the line breaks that they have on the forums because at the moment they can stretch the hover quite a bit.
    • I don't mind the "last seen" field personally, but for people that have that set to hidden on the legacy site, that field should be omitted on their hover.

For pets - I see they don't have a hover on Kumos anymore but I do think it could be a fun addition still!

    • Some basic info that could be included would be owner, age/birth date (one or the other), tier, number of books read & foods eaten, and job title.
    • Maybe showing a pet's minion could be an option as well, though I feel like that's not as important as say, treasure items.
    • I do like the idea of selecting a few treasure items to display, as a way to indicate what's unique about a particular pet. They should definitely shouldn't be displayed as full-size items, though.
    • Having a "status" for each pet, like with the forum leash, would be another handy way to differentiate your pet.
    • Honestly, if we get that level of customization on pet hovers, they could be really useful on user profiles themselves (especially for users that have a ton of pets) to help highlight the character of each individual pet.

    A few other random thoughts:

Whether or not hovers become customizable for everyone, I think it would be fun for staff to customize the hovers for NPC accounts. It's a little sad to see, for example, Euclid make a news post and the only information shown is that that account hasn't been logged into for almost 6 years. Maybe it could include some kind of minor lore blurb about the character and a link to their section in the subetapedia?

I feel like the big paw pad icon and highlight around the username on Kumos is just kind of begging to be made customizable - it's so much more "in your face" that the super tiny icon on the legacy site. But I also get that at the moment it does convey information concisely - if a user has a gold account/subscription or is a staff member - and adding lots of icons & colors to the mix would muddy that somewhat.

The medals on the user hover need to go. Period.

You can't even hover over those images to get what they are, I could see it being a little different if there were something along the lines of alt text that appeared to show what they are. I know that turns up on the user profiles but on user hovers on the forums or anything outside the direct user profile right now, it's just clutter.

Besides, I'm not here to make everyone my absolute utter archnemesis because they have how many ever more... fill in the blank. I'm just not. Yes, I have the army of straw Yule goats and the army of the adorable Medusa plushies but I'm not out to do that with every. single. item. It's not feasible and, imo, it takes a lot of the fun out of the site to always be in a contest with everyone else to hoard so many things.

What does that have to do with user hovers? Idk, maybe implement something about if you're an older player and want to help newbies, there's something denoting so in your user hover. It's just not in me to be ragingly selfish and get pixelated trophies for it. I just don't see the point to it anymore.

What happened to helping other players.
