wowzers so cool :D My grandpa knew most of the guys that worked on the trains as he worked for the city so they all scratched backs during the rough years ;) gran would have coffee an juice or water in summer an bowl of something hot or like you said even sandwich whatever an while they had quick bit or took with them than others would drop a little coal off for family beside the tracks . Thats a time when everyone helped everyone :D May have been lean years granny used to say but neighbor helped neighbor . My smoked brisket is the best

: OOooo, that sounds yummy! We're going to Fresno for Easter. For breakfast, there's traditional egg braid bread and coffee, biscuits with egg gravy and hot-crossed buns. For dinner, there's going to be roasted garlic-rosemary leg of lamb, smoked ham, potato salad, home-brewed ale, and homemade strawberry ice cream. (if there are fresh strawberries available...there were none in the stores after the floods, etc.) I would love to try some of your smoked brisket!

: I could "talk" (write) about food all day. I simply can't make food. I'm terrible at making food. In fact, I'm so terrible at it cooking scares the everliving snot out of me. Weldon does all the cooking in our home. When he lights the stove/oven, I run away. I can chop, but I have to do the chopping in the breakfast nook, outside the kitchen. Sometimes I cry. But Weldon's cooking is masterful! He made bread today! His sourdough starter is over 150 years old, he got it from the humans Hanns and Trudy Grubner who own the Skunk and Stoat Inn. That Inn has been in business since 1840 as a logging kitchen, later a restaurant and the sourdough passed from owner to owner. Hanns sells starters to tourists as a side hustle. Welly got some in a trade .... and there I go....off into the wild blue yonder....

Nothing better on warm sourdough bread than fresh churned butter and local wildflower honey. That with a mug of coffee and a bowl of berries and cream...heaven!

I love sourdough bread, I have had it from California and my son picked up good bread in New Orleans. I have a German bakery down the street from me, and they bake all the holiday treats for Christmas.
