mainly clothes/hair mods and if possible gameplay mods, like things that change up the gameplay a bit. does that make sense? lol
I am really glad you are so excited for it since I'm so new I haven't exhausted the things I can do but I can definitely see a limit even with the mods. It also helps that at least so far my main interest has been the building. Found a save file that has everything bulldozed and I'm starting from the ground up or ground down in a few cases. After I finish that I will populate the world and see what stupidity my sims do.
Can't wait to check out that camera! I have been waiting for sales and so far I haven't bought anything at less than 50% off. Even then I have to spread the purchases out. Last year when base game went free they had a lot on sale and my first pack was Snowy Escape. Around Christmas I bought Island Living. Now with the new pack releasing they had another sale and Steam had bundles. Not sure what the rules are but my sister and I are now sharing the game on my computer since hers can't even handle visiting the Sims Resource site. So we each bought one bundle since they were 55% off. I'm happy and at least a bit overwhelmed since between the two bundles we add Vampires, Magic, Get Together, Dine Out, Bowling, Movie Night and Seasons. At the moment the only pack I'm really wanting is Werewolves and I'm hoping I can get it for 50% off around October or Black Friday. If the sales stay the same though the only way it will be 50% of will be in a bundle so I hope they bundle it with pack I would enjoy.
:) You played the first one I would love to hear more. Most people compare S2, S3, and S4 but I heard that in the first game the game-play was meant to be about the building but then everyone loved the Sims.
With the new pack out I've been waiting and getting used to my new worlds before I re-download my mods. Unlike some I am exercising my patience, it does need a workout every now and then. ;) When they do get updated for the new patch though I've really enjoyed these modders.
Was surprised how much difference Toddlers at Parks made Depends on your play style but LMS probably has a mod for everyone Lumpinou Twisted Mexi more than just build mods even if those are my favorites. Careers, traits, lot traits, and more Ravasheen
And I love these CAS custom content creators.
Must have menwear More good menswear and more Vintage fashions for men and women Runway fashion mostly women's wear If you enjoyed the last one try this one Hairs and more Mens hair If you love braids you need Sheabuttyr Anime and video game hair Some would say Kijiko has the best eyelashes but look there is more It has been very hard to not just download all their SHOES ❤ Two more that I couldn't fit into a single category Oydis and Trillyke Pufferhead pack
Not CAS Because everyone needs a Teddy Bear but there is more worth checking out.
Didn't realize until I finished how long it took me to make this list because I was having so much fun making it. Though some of that was because I found new things they have made to download. Hope you enjoy some of it. I had so many but without going through literally thousand of cc these are the ones I remember really enjoying.
so, ok, in its original conception the sims 1 was meant to be pretty much 100% building. then they had the idea to give the building some sort of goal, which would be to impress a panel of "humans" (sims) judging the house based on how well it would meet their needs (e.g. nice decorations, efficient layout, etc). at the time, simcity was a big thing, and will wright & co got to thinking, "what if you could zoom in on a house in simcity and see what the people living inside it were doing?" hence deciding to make the game part of the sim series. (fun fact: the first game to use simlish was not the sims, but simcopter in 1996).
then they got really into the ideas about how architecture and interior design fed into the needs of the people living within those homes. what do we need? what do we want? do those things make our lives better, or just add more complications down the line? so instead of just having sims come in to judge your house, the focus shifted to actually controlling and watching the sims live inside your house, and interact with one another. (fun fact 2: the statistics related to house quality assessment are actually still accessible in one of the UI tabs.)
because of this, the sims 1 is a lot harder than the later games. their needs drop faster, they're more temperamental, challenges like stove fires were much more frequent... the core gameplay really did center around building houses to efficiently meet sims' needs, keep them happy, enable them to build skills and relationships so they could advance in their careers, thus making money to make further improvements to their houses... expansion packs really opened up the world and gameplay options, but only until you needed to get back to taking care of your sim.
that said, i had a lot of fun with it back in the day! obviously i didn't understand all the nuances of gameplay, but even as a little kid i managed okay. the tone of the game was a lot more... mature, i guess? still silly for sure, but a little more understated and with elements that 100% freaked kids (and many adults) out. things like the creepy prank phone calls, the jumpscare-tier burglar sting, random occurrences like clair the bear rummaging through your trash at night... that kind of stuff definitely got toned down throughout the subsequent games.
Thank you so much for that I remember when the first Sims came out. It sounded really interesting but at the time we didn't even have a computer. Later when the Sims 2 and 3 came out I was still very interested but life got in my way. The original idea was very interesting to me but I couldn't remember why so it is great getting a reminder. I also remember hearing about the mods and custom content. Even when it wasn't free the idea of so many working together to build something made me very happy. When Sims 4 came out I could have played it but the reviews were so awful and then you add in the cost. Sneaky EA they finally got me giving base game away for free. Wish I could say just one more pack and believe EA wouldn't ever change my mind. But even just one more is eliminating at least a few I would like though I may find CC to replace them with in my game. Guess I will be exercising my self-control as well as patience.
How do you all organize your CC and Mods?
:) Do you have plans for how you will organize all the files? Originally I was trying to sort them by the type of item but now that I have so many cc. Now with the break I'm taking from my mods because of the update I have been thinking of sorting them by the creator at least if I have very many of their CCs. Almost everyone I recommended I have so many of their CCs I figure it would be easier to find the problem cc and get a more current version if all that creators work was together. I'm not very good at organization though so my plans may change if I ever find a better way.
So glad you like my list. I shop so much CC and come across more trying to find what I'm looking for and can't find. So if you are looking for something specific maybe I know where you can find it. And if you ever want build/buy items I recommend my third post on this thread. I just backed up my pre-update Mods file and it had 7877 files at least half are build/buy since that is my favorite.
Do you ever use CAS or loading screen mods? I've found some I really like if you would like any recommendations.
OH OH NO I didn't think that far ahead. I go from either super organized to everything gets shoved into one folder eyes my current desktop ... so now im going to have to try and remember all the mods and sort them out... oh dear. How many sub folders can you have in your mods folder before they dont work? like can i have one that labled clothes and in that another one tops/pants etc...
7877?! That's amazing lol. The only CAS mod i'm using was one that like add more columns.
I'm actually trying to hunt down more like.. skin mods for guys, things that make their faces(especially)/bodies look less smooth, does that make sense? Once my monitor is working properly Im going to look into building/buying mods.
When I first read less smooth I thought of this one but now I'm wondering if you meant more like skin texture, freckles, zits, moles, scars, and Vitiligo skin.
I haven't collected many items for modifying the skin other than tattoos and a few scars. But in my searching I have come across a good variety of scars. Since most of them still looked painful I didn't download them so I'm not sure where I saw them. When I'm searching CC, since I really don't want to use the Sims Resource if I don't have to, I start with a basic search in my web browser for the type of item I want. Generally I'm looking for links to lists of that type of item. Snootysims tends to have really nice lists for recommending good creators.
As for the files the information I've found say no more than one folder deep for mods some mods should be directly in the Mods folder. I usually keep the more complex ones there. And put things like the mod for CAS and the loading screen and traits one folder deep. But custom content can be up to 5 folder deep though the fewer deep the better. In my main Mods folder I have 23 folders including shoes, clothes, all build/buy, etc., so I think the number of folders can go higher as long as you don't have folder in folders in folders, basically spread out not deep. Hope my description made sense.
Oh man this post made the urge to play sims rise up in me again lmao and by "play" I mean download cc for a few hours and never actually play the game
:) Downloading more CC shoes than my closet will ever see made me very happy but I find myself spending more time building than "playing with" the sims. It has been a wonderful creative outlet for me. Maybe someday I will finish a save file but there are so many possibilities especially with TwistedMexi's T.O.O.L. mod. I won't be done anytime soon with a complete save file even though I don't have even half the world's. Did you play any of the earlier games?
Oh my god yes, I spend SO MUCH time building, more than actually playing with the sims lmao I have most of the packs but I'm not even close to being done revamping any of the worlds, I'm so picky about my building. I've actually been playing the sims since I was pretty freaking young, the first one I remember playing is 2 and I spent countless hours in 3. I've even played some of the spinoffs like the weird ones on the ds and psp lol what about you?
I play a lot of sims. Started in 2, 3 was way to buggy to play, and still play 4. CC is a must though for me. c: The cult sims stuff I find to be a ton of fun, but wish we could also get more instruments with The ability to form bands. (Kind of an expansion to get famous) I don't care for some of the new stuff that they came out with semi-recently like the high school/new baby forms, but the family stuff isn't my cup of tea. I mean two of my sims can be seen on the side there as an example, but I have all types of odd looking sims.

Oh right! I'm currently building my own worldsave file and trying to actually renovate all the maps. Here's some Oasis Springs so far: I'm using TOOL and BBB but that's about it for buildmods, aside from them the only mods i use are either gameplay scripts, maxis match hair mods or skin blends, I'm trying to stay away from clothing as well just because it's so easy to accumulate huge filesizes lol.
oasis public lots reno
