The Recycle Beast is ready to add to his hoard, and is eager for new stuff; he will have more categories including rarity 170 and 195 in his asks. We're also testing something; he will be changing what he asks for to twice a day, EDIT more specifically twice in a twenty-four hour period with at least an hour buffer between, at random times. We are hoping this gives people in other time zones a chance to turn their items in at more convenient intervals, and to entice more Subetans to visit Riverside's resident trash hoarder in general despite the smell.
Updates shortly on shop clearing and Potion Lottery when the coding is done for them!

Whoops, fixing ;p

This is a feature, not a bug. I think this change will also encourage people to not run and buy up as many as possible without checking back :)

Oh, good catch on the rarities! Yes.
It is twice a day, more specifically twice in a twenty-four hour period with at least an hour buffer between. At the most extreme it can reset itself twice within like 61 minutes for the day, but that is going be rare.
This is new coding and set-up, it was not in place before about 3:15pm today. I think you're right that was referring to the old cron, when it was doing it at 7pm. There might be some chance of that happening at times now, but we are hoping it's only an occasional issue. It is also something we can change if that's a persistent problem! We're testing this configuration but can do something different down the line if that works out better.
A ping group would make perfect sense for the feature, we certainly won't complain if someone sets one up!

One of the patterns with a static reset time, and this would be the same with two of them, ends up being that cheaper items in peoples' shops get pretty quickly picked up close to reset time. After that, until next reset, people tend to forget about visiting or turning stuff in or even deliberately avoid it after seeing what they would have wanted to junk picked off so quickly.
The reasoning behind this being a feature, not a bug, is that it hopefully entices people to check in with the Recycle Beast themselves more often and hopefully get a nice surprise of 'hey, I do have that in my vault!' We're also hoping that it will work better for different schedules; someone who is asleep at midnight and working at noon is going to have trouble with static times, but maybe this way they'll instead catch the RB's 7am cravings or a 5:37pm turnover. And then next day someone who works second shift will be able to get the 2pm one, or a third shifter will be really happy to turn in all their stuff at 4:19am. Over time, it gives lots of different people more chances to interact with the feature.
We can change this over time, tracking items turned in and overall trend. We just want to spread out the opportunity for now and see how people take to it. Something like displaying the time of the next changeover is a good suggestion and we can see how practical that is, as well.

Hmm, he is definitely not supposed to be changing that often, or asking for unbuyables. Is this still going on?
I'll also ping Keith to see if there's a way to add a timer, especially if we're going to be making more changes anyway. I will update with response and reasoning when I get it!

Recycle Beast now shows the last updated time! We are not going to be adding a 'time until changeover' for several reasons, technical included, but we hope the 'time since' notification should help.
