I would agree that it would be good to change the name of the Mori & Nori / Cursed Quest achievement to something else, something more fitting to Mori and Nori as characters and not reminiscent of an outdated term / layperson attempts at psychology.
Maybe "Like Night and Day" or something in that area.
I don't have DID, but I can honestly say that the 'split personality' achievement makes me feel uncomfortable.
Let's face it - terminology changes over time. Some of the things that were commonly said and accepted when I was a teenager, are definitely not something that would be accepted now! If the achievement was changed to something different which still fitted Mori and Nori's characters (like the 'night and day' suggestions for instance), then we would still be able to easily identify it as a Mori / Nori achievement, but it would also fit their items better (given the night / day and light / dark themes).

Here to give my support 100%! Anything that can be offensive like this should be edited to be more appropriate. I don't think anyone is saying to remove the characters, just to update their lore and terminology to be more accurate. I always thought Nori & More were more like Fiona from Shrek who changes at night into a new form(I couldn't think of a better comparison), but I had never looked into the lore before.
I love 's suggestion of Sister Sister and 's suggestion of Like Night and Day for the Achievements.
The thing is, this IS a real issue, even if it's a term on a pet site. Ableism can rear it's head through microaggressions such as a website casually using a term that is outdated and not accepted by the community it's referring to -- then users who aren't effect by the issue continue perpetuating the issue by dismissing concerns about it and not accepting that it can be annoying, frustrating, or even harmful to people. I think the most mature thing to do here is to respect other people and change & evolve based on learning new things.
Finding a classic Jekyll and Hyde scenario offensive just seems like trying to find something to be angry about.
Nobody finds the characters themselves to be the issue, just some of the specific language surrounding them. You can change the language and keep the character. Nothing about Mori and Nori changes if we change the name of the achievement.
It seems like the original intent of this thread has been lost somewhere, or maybe people are misinterpreting. From what I understood of the OP, it seems like the main thing they are taking issue with is the specific phrase used in the achievement name, which is based on an outdated understanding of Psychology/mental health diagnosis. They don't seem to have an issue with the overall concept of the characters, just the phrase used in those two achievements.
I don't think it would be too much of a problem to adjust the achievement names to reference night and day or light and dark to still be in line with the characters. I don't see anywhere in the first post where they mentioned that the characters should be removed completely, so I'm not sure where people got that idea from.
The achievement should be called "Cursed Quests". Simple as that.
Oh, and rerelease the title as well.
I agree the name should be changed. Generally a lot of things on the site seem a bit outdated (which would make sense given the number of items, achievements, quests, etc. on the site). I’m sure these types of things were not even a thought when the site was first launched but the world has changed and it’s time for a change here too.
Marco, They/He
I always took it as two minds living in one body. but they are split apart from one another and can only manifest one at a time. i could see how that wording might be seen other ways. i'm fine with how it is but don't really mind if it changes to be more about the concept and leave out the phrase that was originally found to be offensive.
I'm all for this update. I never felt the achievement name fit right.
The achievement bonus is "The Cursed___" title, which is fine. I think something like; Darkness, Darkness, Cursed quests, and Here comes The Sun, Cursed Quests for the individual and 's suggestion of Light and Dark, Combined Cursed Quests would be a reasonable alternative.
Well, you could personally boycott the quests, for one. Their prizes are more offensive than their names, no? I don't think I'll be getting the Nori achievement anytime soon - only because I'm generally not questing at night.
If the team focused their efforts on genuine problems, I feel as though we'd all progress further.
I don't see the two causing any global wars or anything, I'm confused by the fuss...
It is early, though!

It's not the quests, or the characters and their prizes at all.
We're just discussing the name of the achievements "Split Personality...", which should be a super easy change to help make folks more comfortable playing, so everyone can have fun trying for the achievements without being made to feel uncomfortable by an old, unfortunate name, that doesn't even really fit the NPCs backstory.
Though, I'm honestly confused by all the fuss as well. If a change as simple as this can make Subeta more enjoyable, even for a minority of players, without any impact on game play.., why not?
Nothing on Subeta is causing "global wars" so why fix anything? Why even keep the site running at that point?
How is the fact that an easy change, that in reality will change absolutely nothing significant about Subeta, which will help some of our members so bad? I can't wrap my head around why people are so opposed to this.
It would take practically no effort from staff to fix, just a little time and maybe the help of a sensitivity reader. Its not like a new art needs to be done or people are asking for the full removal of Mori and Nori. Its a meaningless line of text in an achievement title and some wording in the Subetapedia article. How much time do the people upset about this proposed change really spend reading achievement titles? Or Subetapedia articles? If staff's inaction and dismissal of this issue is hurting users, how is that not a genuine problem?
If something on Subeta was harmful and offensive to a group you were part of, wouldn't you want it changed? Or would you still campaign against it and call it pointless since its not causing "global wars"?
Again, I repeat it, there is zero reason not to just go and call this achievement "Cursed Quests". Absolutely none.
why is it that when suggestions like these are made there are always multiple people rolling their eyes and being contrarian? why are people so willing to defend potentially hurtful things for... no reason?? like why do you care so much you even admit it doesn't affect you. so why.
Because "It has always been that way why change it" is still a very rampant mentality, not just online, but everywhere.
Sucks, honestly
I think it’s something to look into! While fantasy and magic can very much be a way to play with irl concepts and explore themes it’s not really worth being offensive about it. And if a lot of people with DID find it offensive, why wouldn’t you want to change something so little as an achievement name?
I understand why some would say it’s not worth changing, but if it doesn’t effect you you’re not gonna understand why it’s offensive in the first place until you sit down and learn.
Watching people kindly and patiently explain why this is a genuine problem, only to see other people just not bother reading any of it and be all "Why is this such a big deal?" "lol you're just looking for things to get mad at" "Your problem's not real we need to work on REAL problems"
...makes me want to not live on this planet anymore.
Please don't put down other peoples' thoughts and feedback. Something that seems small to one person is still valid as a problem to another.
We're discussing how to best modify aspects of this now, including a rename of the achievement but also other matters related to Mori/Nori/Mono Ri. We want to get the update out in one cohesive push.
This thread is being left open for suggestions but, again, please don't use it to shut own other Subetans. Life is complicated, for everyone, but with compassion and support we can make it better even if we can't always make it simpler.
EDIT: Actually, to have a fresh start on the project, I am locking this thread but encourage people to post in Mori/Nori/Mono Ri suggestions!
