This is a great idea. I don't have too many pets, but then ones I am proud of, I absolutely would send to the den and let them be. In that way, people don't lose track of what pet to focus on and the whole dropdown would not be so difficult to look through! The slow XP sounds absolutely lovely and I am sure people would really enjoy it. Just a random thought - Since toy items aren't super useful, we could just throw them into the den for a super super super small xp growth boost. Maybe we could go completely nuts someday where the were some kind of progression on the overall daily XP growth encouraging to put more pets in the den to get things like borders or goodie bags. But that's just some random idea, haha. I am all for streamlining the pet system!
creative limbothis isn't something that would really affect me*, but i know some people like to have "vanity" stats (staying at a specific number for a stat for personal or aesthetic reasons) and some of these people will avoid collecting job income because there's a chance for increased stats along with the money. so, i know it would make things more complicated but i think being able to turn things like training or job income on or off for specific pets would be really nice ;o
(* i have one pet who i want to stay at tier 1 but gains stats from her job and instead of not collecting her income i just buy a bunch of stat leeches from the battle shop and remove the excess stats when i remember)
I am definitely in favor of this. I have been thinking for a long time that it's very strenuous on the site to have so many pets loading (and I'm only at just over 30) every time I use an item etc. I would love to be able to shift all but the ones I'm actively working with on training etc over to another location and rotate them back in as needed.
I would also suggest maybe even toggle options so we can toggle off food/books/minions/etc for pets where we just click the button that says "none for me thanks" so they don't appear in load menus etc. Anything that helps reduce how many queries we're doing per person every time something is happening.
I have read some of the replies from you () and I am 100% with you in terms of pets on the farm being limited to what can be accessed (and that it must be done through the farm) rather than querying their information on every other page.
Pages I can think of this would affect: achievements, battle statistics, training center, resort, account search page (idk if that one is possible to continue to show pets on the farm as well, as technically we would still have the item), bathhouse, merena, itallo, jobs, i'm sure there are more places where pet colors/species/etc can be changed that isn't directly related to inventory but I can't think of them at the moment.
I really love this idea - it would streamline things like reading/feeding pets as well I imagine.
I already do something similar ish with battling where I purposefully feed only the pet that I'm battling with so that only one pet shows up on the dropdown to select so that it's faster to grind out wins. But it's probably more ?humane to send my pet to "the farm" instead of starving it so that its not battle ready. LOL
As someone with less than 100 pets, I do think this is a great idea. I think I'd still utilize the farm myself as there are times I'd prefer not to see 20+ pet names show up in a list.
The only concern I might have is the jobs section. I'd still like to be able to collect from each pet without having to adjust my farm. That is literally the only interaction I have with some of these pets. Speaking of the job section (I know, I blame ADD), I'd like a collect income button to do in mass rather than 1 at a time (maybe a perk for the subscribers?).
Great idea!!! I have only like 27 I think but would love to limit it, its hard to find which pet to feed something to each time
I am loving this idea. I don't have 100 yet, it was my aim. But ... what if grandfathering over that and limiting all users to 100 pets in the future? (Backlash from this idea... yess) But I rather a site I love keep going over unlimited pets.

I agree with most of what has been said and agree the limit should be smaller (like 25ish) if it means the site will run better!
Art by the incredible
We have 1 active pet, have the active pet be the only one that shows unless we go to pet page or user page.
I sorta skipped ahead by CTRL+F-ing (lol) words related to my question but maybe missed it... When it comes to pets being viewable by others, say from user profiles, will there be like a gallery of the active pets with their images and then a way to view farm'd pets like a dropdown menu a visitor could click a name on?
I would assume that's a safe bet but doesn't hurt to ask anyways. I don't know the strain they put on user profiles versus all the pages on our end (I have 89 myself...) so.
ETA: I adore this idea btw! I spaced out when posting like a dork. It would be nice because my pets page overwhelms me (thanks neurodivergence) but I just can't get rid of pets because I have so many OCs.
... Why on earth do you need 100 pets?? Maybe my smooth-brained, author self is beyond comprehending this.

I like the proposal. Ideal as it would be to let everyone live their subetan lives without limits, I know that's not practical. For myself, I'm creatively capped out in the 30-ish region, have barely exceeded that on any pet site I play, and I doubt that will change. But I am glad this won't just be a hard limit that will curb people who are ready to take on 100+ pets. In my opinion, more power to you if you are that person. This seems like a good middle ground.
I'll echo the people saying I'm not opposed to a smaller limit. If I only had ~20 pets showing up on the "read book" list, that'd make my life that much easier. If we had the opportunity to choose where our "farm" begins and ends sub-100, I would absolutely utilize that.
I have 80 pets, so I'm not gonna be effected, and the drop downs and battling can be hard work.
I like the idea of favourite/active pets. Makes me think like you are out walking 4 or so while the rest are at home.
I would use this feature to maybe have 5-10 pets out walking, limit my accidents with reading and feeding.
I would still want to be able to train the stay at home pets but I don't think it would be a deal breaker. I would still want to put my pets in the resort so I don't have to worry about feeding them every time I want to switch them up.
Battling would be easier with this I think. Normally I keep pets out of the resort so they don't show up or don't heal them (though the latter is a pain when you do want to heal).
I would still want to be able to see them all on my profile, and the pets page (or farm or whatever it gets called).
I really dislike the term Farm as it makes me think of puppy farms where dogs are kept pregnant constantly just to sell off the puppers :( I hope there will be a poll to decide on the name ;)
- Might another consideration be capping pet treasures? I know they don't interact as much with all aspects of the site but might it be somewhere a server saving could be made?
I'm lazy so having multiple pets gain stats from an oracle quest wouldn't bother me personally.
I have 70+ pets at the moment! I use control f on the pets page to search for a pet's name if I wanna do something with them.

I believe it's less about the pet treasure size, and more about the many pages where the site calls the server to fetch information about all of your pets. A TC limit wouldn't help the pets page (for example) load faster, because the problem is that it's asking the server to count the TCs of 100+ pets, not that it's trying to count the TCs of a few pets with 100+ items. And of course, on the pets page it also need to check all of those 100+ pets for their stats (incl. counts like books read & food eaten), minions, hunger & happiness, etc.
In examples earlier in the thread, people have said that pages are breaking where even fewer stats are fetched from the server, like training or the job agency - and like you said, a TC limit wouldn't affect those at all.
I don't know what the Subeta databases look like, but that's my understanding, at least!
Keith That sounds like a very good idea and I myself would love to see how it will work, matter of fact I love the idea.

Definitely support this idea. I don't see why the pets on the farm can't just have everything deactivated, and if we want to do anything with them they should come off the farm. Seems a bit more simple than trying to remember if they will show up or not depending on what activity you're doing.
Also - maybe we can workshop the farm name, LOL. Does Subeta even have farms? I'd say we could put them:
etc etc
