This was a tough decision, and for the longest time not one I believed I'd ever make - because Subeta had come into my life like a miracle, and for a few years was exactly what I needed.
I joined Subeta when I was 21 years old and going through a very dark time. I was a depressed college dropout, lost and unemployed, and playing Subeta helped me get through. I loved what the game had to offer, and it gave me something fun and positive to look forward to every day. I still remember how welcomed I felt when I joined, as well - everyone was so helpful and generous to me, and I was just a newbie!
I joined staff when I was 22, and I'm so grateful for the ways I was able to give back, bring joy to the community and help Subeta with its needs in turn. It's hard to describe what an amazing (and formative!) experience it's been to code for Subeta. Unlike so many corporate spaces, this workplace accommodated my needs and had my back in ways that matter. Meanwhile, I got to work with and befriend some of the coolest people ever, and I got to write code that I cared about, that challenged me and made people happy. I can't put into words how much Subeta has helped me grow as both a coder and a person.
I'm now 26, and I'm in a much different place in life than I was 5 years ago. My needs and situation have changed dramatically, and I want to free up my time to pursue other avenues in my life - and other places where I can make a positive difference.
Subeta's community is full of the loveliest people, and that has remained true throughout the years I've been here. I'll always appreciate the way you all helped me heal and grow. Wherever I go from here, I'll continue to carry all the good that Subeta's shown me, and do my best to pay it forward.
Thank you for everything!
Love,
