Anyone know if we can get past fireside items from the bonfire? This my 1st time with the event, I don't know

It's my first time as well, I'm not sure if I should sell the floating items or throw it on the fire as I still got nothing from it.

You toss the item into the bonfire, but before it can be consumed by flames, a laughing jollin leaps forth and grabs it. He drops the item on the ground and turns towards you, teeth bared in challenge.

Some of the items I have gotten have been from past years, yes.

You really miss the fun of the season if you don't throw something into the fire. Occasionally you will just get "kissed" but more often than not you will get an item. You can also throw some of these items into the fire if you want and destroy them, which will make the Red Rreign mad at you. There are achievements for being burned by the rreign, having one of your items destroyed by the rreign, and for giving items to the rreign (i.e. throwing things into the fire).

That being said, if you really want to hold onto your items to see if any of them are valuable/rare, you could hoard them until the last day and then only throw the cheaper ones in. Most items will drop in price because of their availability. Also, don't forget to add at least one copy of the plushies, beanbags, and stickers to your collections!
