That sounds delicious. Anyway to send time together for the holidays is always good. Yesterday we spent the day at my in laws and we celebrated our birthdays together with some cake, then played a few rounds of cards against humanity which had us in tears lol

At least everyone enjoyed my dishes so that was fun. I made some homemade cranberry sauce, spinach & artichoke casserole, and amaretto cheesecakes. I'm doing the same thing. Catching up on buying delish items and bonus items trying to see if I can trim the items anywhere b/c I saw the final price and had a mini heart attack lol

Sure. Right now I have the main character, Dana, losing her Dad, David, in a car accident and trying to deal with it while Mom, a family counselor, doesn't want to deal with it and buries herself in her work.

Main character's best friend, Samantha or Sam for short, is trying to help Dana cope as best she can. Sam is a rebellious wild child b/c her Mom left the family when she was a baby and she's petty much raised herself while her Father, a cop, didn't have a whole lot of time at home to raise her growing up.

At least that's what I have so far for the characters. What do you think?

I had never heard of Cards against Humanity so I googled it and this popped up: "Cards Against Humanity is a party game for horrible people." ROTFLMAO!! It actually sounds really fun! Glad you got your birthday celebration with your man!!

sounds interesting, and I am sure you can make something out of it. Maybe they can track down Sam's mother? Maybe wasn't really an accident that killed David.

How old are Dana and Sam? You didn't give their occupations or anything. Maybe they're still in college or even high school? Or are they young women who haven't settled on careers? or maybe aspiring actresses working retail jobs and going to auditions?

It's a very delightful party game for people with twisted senses of humor and not for anyone under age if you know what I mean. Truly the best part was when his mom, aunt, and me made him blush with our cards lol

You just added so much to the story already. In my mind I had them as high schoolers, thinking juniors or seniors, Sam's never had any real aspirations as far as the future and lives for the here and now whereas Dana was the overachiever who wanted to go to college to pursue her dream of becoming an author. Thing is after David dies, she looses the drive b/c of the grief and not really getting help other then talking to Sam.

Premise of the story is Dana's been having nightmares that she's running away form something, not sure what, but if she doesn't stop running, the threat in the dream will catch and kill her. In the town they live in, someone has been killing residents with an axe. Seemingly the victims don't have any connection so the cops don't know when the killer will strike next. Dana thinks her nightmares mean she could be the next victim, but what if she's interrupting the meaning wrong?

I like the irony of Dana's mother being a family counselor but unable to help her own family deal with a loss. I can see her not exactly deciding not to go to college after all, but not caring enough to do all the work of applying - so it'd be ideal to put her at the age when kids apply to universities, which is late junior year or early senior year of high school. And that's what you were thinking.

Killing people with an axe, hmm... and dreams... it reminds me of this show Medium that I've been re-watching recently, a little. Are Dana's dreams connected with the murders? Since she's lost her drive, is being scared of the nightmares actually helping her in some way, I guess - it's giving her a bit of drive again, even if not toward a constructive activity?

I hope you have fun when you write it, it sounds really intriguing!

it's been a pretty good day today! I goofed off and watched videos and played videogames most of the day, got takeout from a nearby Mexican restaurant for dinner, and wrote a really short story :D it was with characters I'd written a series about a year or two ago, but I'd forgotten the details of their back story and changed it a bit, so I might change the names and pretend it wasn't meant to be about them after all 😆
