For 2022's decorations I raided the dumpsters at appliance stores for free large sheets of Styrofoam. I broke my hot knife a couple years ago so I just cut them to shape with a big serrated bread knife and gunged them up with green, gray and black watercolor and acrylic paints. I bought some large stick-on letters from the office supply store for the names and goofy epitaphs and voila... I had an instant graveyard,
raiding dumpsters :D u find anything good? :)
Heck Yeah!
When I raided the Kings Castle dumpster, back when the Hyatt first bought the place, I found a 6 foot diameter wrought iron chandelier in the pile of medievalist décor they were dumping. Fleur de lak's dumpster yielded enough flagstone to put paths through my garden, and almost enough lumber to build a tool shed. Home Depot's dumpster finished off my lumber needs and netted me some torn open fertilizer bags for my garden.
For Halloween I snagged enough free cardboard, bits of wire, and sheets of styrofoam to decorate the whole neighborhood from Best buy and Sears outlet's dumpsters alone!
Construction site's dumpsters are the best! When they tore the Mapes casino down it was dumpster diver heaven. The competition was fierce, lots of folks wanted a piece of the place, but I grabbed some nice art deco pieces... a side table, two table lamps and a couple of cool wall sconces.
