I've been very not-social for the past couple weeks and have been occupied with things away from Subeta but I feel like catching up here now so here we go. Buckle up.
Which songs/artists/music genres did you discover this year?
Hm, well, too many songs to list but some that stand out are ones that I've discussed in response to previous questions ("Anthracite Nights" by Avarice in Audio, "Sing" by Blutengel). I guess one artist I could mention is Rabbit Junk; they turned up on my Spotify a few months ago and they're pretty good. There's also that instrument I mentioned recently, the yaybahar, invented and played by Görkem Şen. I also just discovered around that time that Stroh violins are a thing. Does trumpet-fiddle count as a genre? I don't know where I'm going with this anymore, next question lol
Did you believe in Santa, the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny or something similar?
I didn't 100% believe - I was always looking for evidence one way or the other - but I definitely wanted to believe in Santa and couldn't rule out the possibility until I was like 8 or so. In my defense, my parents put a lot of effort into the charade because they knew I paid attention to details. They even put sooty footprints on the floor in front of the fireplace. XD
What is your Hogwarts House?
Ravenclaw!
What is your favourite Christmas song?
"Carol of the Bells" (or "Shchedryk"), in any of its iterations. I particularly enjoy "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" by Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is in part based on it. I also really love The Nutcracker Suite which I think counts as Christmas music.
Which kind of music do you dislike?
New country (some of the older stuff is ok)...most rap isn't really my thing either but it doesn't irritate me the way country does.
What is your favourite Christmas movie?
Does the Charlie Brown Christmas special count? I don't really have a favorite Christmas movie but I always looked forward to the Charlie Brown holiday specials as a kid.
Who is the best villain ever?
Oh boy...I really don't have an answer for this right off-hand. How about the Borg and Q from Star Trek, do they count as "villains"? Antagonists at least. They're pretty great. Oh, maybe Hannibal Lecter, he's a proper creepy dude. Then you have your iconic Bond villains. I know, Jack Torrance from The Shining! Actually I don't know. I tend to root for the bad guys in movies because happy endings are cliché and boring but of course I don't feel the same about them in real life. I'm meandering again, next question...
What is your favourite subeta game?
Tubular Tiles, the mahjong game with the turtle. It hasn't worked in a long time though; I really miss it. Caliph's Tomb is also good and has the advantage of being functional.
What is something you need to work on?
Umm...interpersonal skills, being less cynical and not being lazy. But I'm probably not going to. I guess I enjoy being wretched and miserable :D
What is an achievement you are proud of?
These sorts of questions make me feel awkward but anyway I guess I could say I'm proud of myself for participating in a foreign exchange program in high school because I'm such a ball of social anxiety now that I don't know how I managed to do it then. I guess it's a thing to be proud of because my dad likes telling people about it lol
I was also proud of myself for excelling throughout school, accumulating a bunch of awards and junk and getting into my first choice college but I'm ashamed of myself for dropping out and following the absolute wrong goshdamned life path ever since so that one cancels out. Can't win 'em all I guess.
How do you sleep?
Not particularly well. I always put off going to bed as long as possible so my schedule ends up backwards on my days off and then it's a struggle to fix it again before I go back to work, every damn week. And I work night shift so I have to sleep during the day, which means I have to combat daylight and noisy neighbors and excessive heat during the summer. Since I already struggle to turn off my brain and fall asleep under the best of conditions, that really makes things tough. The only reason I get any sleep at all is that I mess up my schedule so bad on my days off that I'm usually sleep-deprived and exhausted enough to collapse by bedtime during the work week. What a way to live. At least I tend to have cool dreams.
Do you have pets?
I have a dog, Zelda, and a cat, Moon Diamond. They are perfect and beautiful derps :)

What makes you feel nostalgic?
So many things...where to even start? One thing I can say affects me very strongly is music by Philip Glass. I listened to a lot of it back in high school and college before I deviated from my intended course, so it always reminds me of more optimistic times and also smacks me in the face with the harsh reality of what will never be. I'm always in for a rough emotional ride when I start a Glass listening session...I usually make the mistake of getting into the ol' box of wine at the same time too. This is probably unwise but sometimes I've just gotta subject myself to it.
I tend to get nostalgia for times and places I've never even lived. Soviet propaganda posters, particularly ones depicting a vision of future space travel (so retro-futurism, I suppose), and photos/tours of old industrial sites (especially decommissioned or never-completed nuclear plants) really get me too. Also in a missed-opportunities sort of way, but at least they aren't my personal missed opportunities. The Fallout universe allows me to experience a fantasy version of that era so I very much enjoy it. To be honest, I haven't been on Subeta much lately because I've just been living in Fallout 4 for the last couple weeks lol.
Oh, also snow, but in a much more pleasant way because it still snows. It reminds me of happy childhood memories and I can still play in it, so nothing has really been lost. At least, not until climate change cancels snow where I live. Dammit I was trying to be positive about something; oh well.
What does your favourite cup look like?
Apparently, I've started a collection of weird nerdy mugs, because of course I have. These are a couple of my favorites that are at my desk right now (I use these the most because they're higher-capacity than typical mugs and I'm serious about my caffeinated beverages).
I also have an orange Fiestaware coffee cup but I don't use it; it's part of my radioactive collection (the glaze contains uranium). I have another one shaped like a mini-nuke from Fallout but I don't use that one either because reviews state the paint wears off easily. Naturally, I have a mug featuring a depiction of a caffeine molecule. And I have a souvenir mug from the Hanford B-Reactor tour. My grandma passed down her collection of fancy, delicate teacups and saucers to me but I don't think the manner in which I've continued this collection is quite what she had in mind.
Hey Beatrice, down here, it's a reply!
Beatrice
To be fair to Maggie, she probably grew up in the city (I got her from a shelter in an urban area) and then we moved out to a much more rural place, so I guess she couldn't really be expected to know about dangerous wildlife haha.
I would love to get him back for the spider prank but my dad is so calm and level-headed, I suspect he's unprankable. At least without doing something really shockingly awful and I don't approve of pranks like that. I think I'm just going to have to consider it a win for myself that I acquired a giant spider for my trouble. XD
Oh, that is an extra-big oof. Hence the liability waivers I suppose. I think you pretty much have to know what you're in for if you sign up for that stuff though so I wouldn't necessarily blame the haunted house (unless he was in clear medical distress and they were just ignoring it, which...all things considered, isn't impossible I guess). On one hand, if someone with a heart condition rides a rollercoaster and has a heart attack, it's like, well, that really sucks for that guy but it doesn't mean we should ban rollercoasters. But some of those extreme haunted house staff do seem a tad malicious. I would still maybe consider trying one but like I said, only if it had a safe word. And I'd want to talk to people who had already gone through it first.
That's a cool fact about pumpkins! I've always heard carving pumpkins aren't great for eating but I've never tried them myself. I've saved and roasted the seeds though, and those are good. It probably wouldn't be worth growing that variety as a commercial crop just for the seeds though so hooray for our Halloween tradition that has kept them around.
I hate it when people touch my stuff even if they DO live with me. It's part of why I just really can't tolerate living with people. I never felt 100% comfortable in my own home when I lived with my ex, who had a history of destroying things just because he was in a bad mood, so I couldn't display and enjoy anything I really cared about. Anyway, yeah, those are great party ideas and I hope my sister will get to do them next year! She has a ouija board and we already played with it a little and tried our best to freak ourselves out with it...it did "say" some kind of weird things. XD
Really? Celery almost tastes like...nothing...stringy water with a hint of greenery, if anything...so I think it goes with almost anything lol. Hmm...I looked up hagelslag; I thought maybe it would be Nutella but it's just chocolate sprinkles, and way too many of them. Looks like bread covered in mouse turds...no thank you! Those mini toasts look like the same idea as Melba Toast...now those with Nutella would probably be pretty tasty!
I love this question! Mine was given to me by my BFF and has aloe Vera on it and says says “Aloe You Vera Much” like as in I love you very much

I got this mug in Seattle back in like 18 years ago. It just broke this year :( I can't find any pics of it but I got it as a souvenir at the Space Needle.
Your mug is cool !
My favourite mug is a huge grey cat shaped mug. It's enormous, adorable, and keeps my drink hot for a really long time :)
What does your favourite cup look like?
My favorite home cup is white with a gold handle and says "Today has been canceled"
My work cup is the greatest thing ever it's "For Fox Sake" and I make sure to hold it up anytime someone asks me a stupid question.
Today's question:
My personal answer: Frozen is definitely one of them for me. Actually most of the Disney movies, I guess. Oh and I love watching Pitch Perfect. There are movies which I sometimes have a strong craving for like the Matrix, Lord of the Rings or certain Hitchcock classics but I can't watch them 24/7.

PITCH PERFECT! Yessssssssss. Also pretty much any Disney film, and Hocus Pocus.
It used to be Independence day, Predator, The Core, Twister, 2010 The Year We Make Contact, Soldier, Universal Soldier. Nowadays its my collection of children's cartoons, Paw Patrol, Octonauts, Strawberry shortcake, and some oddities from the background of the genre. Also my collection of nature Documentaries, primarily BBC.
Mean Girls, Amadeus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice
Ohh I also get the Matrix/LOTR cravings. I love Terminator 2 but it’s because I watched it like hundreds of times as a kid so it’s like comfort food for me. A feast for the eyes lol. Also love Mulan, Moana, and the Swedish version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

My biggest gripe about Terminator 2 is no copy I've ever had includes the Spanish dub I grew up watching. All any version has is Castellano Spanish, while the rare televised does. It stinks...
- my work cup says Not Today Mugglef*ckers on it! I miss being able to put it in peoples faces but at the same time do not lol
I've got several movies I can watch over and over - Dazed And Confused I think is one of the main ones but then of course there are all the holiday movies that never get old too :)
I have a few comfort movies that I watch all the time. :)
Blues Brothers is one of my go-to movies when I'm sad or sick. When I had the flu really bad last year (I was sick for over a month and for a few days I was pretty much bedridden) I watched it a lot. I never get sick of the music and the humour.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is my other go-to. It's such a stupid movie to describe to someone ("Kirk and his crew have to go back in time to save the humpback whales so they -- the whales, that is -- can talk to an alien probe and convince it to stop destroying the planet") but it's AMAZING. It's absolutely hilarious and just a really fun, laid-back film. I've shown it to non-Trekkies who ended up loving it because it's just fun and has a wider appeal than some of the other movies.
I love the other TOS Star Treks as well but don't watch them as much as The Voyage Home (although Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country are pretty close).

Today's question:
My personal answer: Rain pouring on tent walls. For me, that is the most relaxing sound ever. Soft rain sounds in general are really soothing 😍

I like the sound of cicadas in the summer
