I wouldn't be opposed to donating to a kick starter to keep the site going! I think that'd be a great idea as incentive for Keith and staff to keep up the hard work....Is someone already doing that?
I'm willing to give Keith the benefit of the doubt and say he accidentally a word there. I'm pretty sure he meant to say he wasn't thinking about selling the site. And he meant the only thing of monetary value is our data. Another company isn't going to care about the community here or our history. They're just going to care about making a profit and when they realize Subeta isn't profitable they'll sell our data and shut it down.
I'm frustrated by the errors and lag too but let's not twist staff's words here guys.
- exactly, couldn't have said it better myself 👍
Normally I wouldn't have pinged for such a mundane response, but since you pinged me first I thought it'd be fair to to respond on a couple things.
I'm glad you've been putting your skills to good use and have remained in the field. You deserve a good place for all that you've given to so many of these users. While I came across a 'bit' harsh, it shouldn't have come across as a personal attack. I did see offsite that you had considered selling, which is where that bit had come from. (I don't generally look at those places but I was googling how to find s/thing on here and landed there, unfortunately.) To be sure though, I did state that they were my own expressions/opinions and there has been plenty of frustration that's been building.
It seems that yesterday a lot more effort was put in, and today I am able to reap some of those rewards, to which I am grateful. To be a "hobby", as you say, entails putting money, time, energy and care into it, and it does seem that you've done that. But people don't scrapbook (hobby) for life, and I think as long as you're honest w/ your user base, we can all be happy w/ the overall decisions.
Good luck w/ your future endeavors. From what I understand, that site was a complete mess when it was first launched so I'm sure it needed a LOT of work.

Oops on that response and how I worded it. I'm not selling the site, I was saying that the only thing that a company would find of value to purchase Subeta at this point would be all of the user data! My point was that this is a labor of love.
Yup!
I don't think you can trust what you see off site, I've never really given a thought to selling Subeta. There was one offer more than ten years ago that I briefly considered but knew that it wasn't in the best interest of the site.

Yup!
i've seen sort of this exact same thing happen to neopets, for example, and trust me it's not been that pretty. jumpstart did them dirty
its refreshing to have a site like subeta with staff and a community who band together to tackle issues and really care about one another. don't change. <3
Personally I will take some lag and downtime any day of the week instead of the chance of the site closing/shutting down.
Thank you to you and the other hard working staff for keeping this site, that's so important to me and other users going. I super appreciate it. <3
I get that it's frustrating not to be able to fully utilize the gifts that we've been given in exchange for our patience with downtime, but I personally feel that if some GA extension or other gift wasn't given within a day or two of the update, then there would be even more complaints. In the post-update newspost, there were already quite a few people grumbling about losing their GA time.
I wasn't able to complete every quest this weekend, but I got a few things that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise - so yay, net win! And tbh, staff is usually more than generous with extras and gifts during times of struggle on the site, so I wouldn't be surprised if something else was given out after the update is complete.
I agree so much! There were many people who were very upset about losing their GA and demanding staff give them their missed days so staff does and their still the bad ones?
Are staff perfect? No, but no one is.
Keith clearly CARES about subeta or he would’ve shut it down years ago. For him to work without being paid yes may be his choice but it shows he CARES about us and the community here when let’s be real, most people wouldn’t work without being paid.
I know I wouldn’t. Would any of you? He’s also mentioned he’s paid out of pocket to keep subeta running... so is Keith perfect? No, but I’m damn glad he owns subeta and still keeps it running for those of us that love to play so much.
And yes wearables are a HUGE part of subeta. Not just CWs either. I’m sure delish/vanity sets make the site much more money than the monthly battle challengers so it makes perfect sense staff will release more wearable content than other things.
If you hate wearables and the site so much why are you here? Just to bitch and moan? Is your life really that empty you need to spend it wasting time bitching and moaning about every little fucking thing? My god I wish I had that much time and energy to waste!
Staff all have other jobs and real lives, this site is running because they love subeta and want it to last even if it’s not profitable so sorry I’ll gladly take the lag and hiccups as opposed to not having subeta at all.
Feeling a bit fed up because it's gone 4 pm in the UK and quests still haven't been reset. I hate time zones. :D
Is there another way for us to support Subeta besides the cash shop? All of those involved with the site have done a wonderful job. I give when I can but I know it is not much. Thanks for this site.
Support Subeta by turning off your ad blockers. That is one way you can support without giving them cash.
Wow, some people are really bitter and probably should just leave if they hate the site that much, lol (this isn't the first time I've seen this particular user post nasty comments)
I'm going to quote some of the more relevant and on point posts here, because people seem to be twisting OP's original point into a generic "whine about the lag and errors" post, and I'm not okay with that.
It was a great idea to give players some GA time as a thanks for being patient during the downtime; it was poorly executed by issuing that GA time while the site was still bogged down with problems to the point where no one could fully use the GA features. Which basically makes the wonderful gift pointless. Which is frustrating on a number of levels.
Honestly, I just feel bad for staff right now, because not only are they working on the site and catching flak for all the problems left over from that, they're catching flak for trying to do something nice for us because the timing of it was terrible.
I mean, absolutely I'll be grateful for whatever I get throughout the page errors and the lag and the quests not resetting (as of now). But man, with just a little bit of forethought, this whole situation could have been so much better for all of us, staff and players alike.
Does this site make more money if you click on the ads?
I appreciate the GA and special quests, but when the issues (aka the reason for the gifts) are stil such that the gifts are hard to enjoy, I'd rather have delayed gratification. (On that note, I'm glad they're waiting on the Free Shop until later.) Or honestly, even none at all. Gifts behind a locked door are more frustrating than no gifts at all.
Most sites either earn by clicking or views. I have no clue which Subeta uses. You might ask a staff member. I just know it's there to earn a little extra moola for the site.
Thank you for that compilation!
I feel like a few users who have posted have gotten quite off-topic. This thread is NOT to criticize staff in any way or to whine and complain without suggesting a solution.
One of the problems I have on Subeta sometimes is that even when a user has a legitimate complaint and is suggesting a solution, other users will get upset at them and accuse them of complaining with no reason. The main purpose for this thread is to bring attention to the fact that we are grateful for the gifts but frustrated with the timing--and suggesting a solution in that gifts should have been released later when the site was more capable of handling the influx of users for utilization of said gifts.
This post is not meant to be a jab at any user in particular; just a reminder that those of us who are frustrated are allowed to be upset. We are not complaining without reason, and we are not complaining without suggesting solutions. Just simply voicing our opinions while asking that others don't shut us down without seeing it from our point of view.
Guys, Subeta is free to play. Yes, there are gold accounts but the staff has given out free gold accounts to more than make up for time lost during the downtime. Yes, there's lag and some errors and that's frustrating but seriously, chill.
Thanks for the gifts, guys, I appreciate it. No "thanks but" from me.
Now how much money do I want to bet that I'll hear that I'm "bootlicking" or "kissing ass" because I'm not demanding a manager, lol
Just letting you know that staff kinda owe some GA days (more than 10) for some of us for broken features like autopricer. You have a point saying the site is free to play, but it's unwise to ignore that without us (and I mean ALL of us, gold and regular accounts) the site wouldn't exist. Without a consumer the product is invaluable. Don't mean to ONLY post this to contradict you and pick an argument, just showing why I think it's fine for us to express unhappiness.
