if it's any consolation I think a lot of people have at least one loss because his mechanic isnt well known unless you are in the battle side of the site. I thought he just had a very op attack lol. turns out to be a bit more tricky than that eh?

I'd try battling with it though, it's much faster if you set up your weapon set the right way.

If you do want to battle the old way, its the exact same number of clicks as it was before if pre-select is on.

It's almost strictly better, and can reduce a battle from 1-2 minutes to 5-10 seconds.

as said autoselect is a real game changer for time and for strategy. What you do is put your set in a specific order (example being a freezer and a buff one turn, followed by 2 blasters second turn and then the third turn being bombs to get in curses or icon damage, and then your main attackers)

so instead of clicking on each one you go through your strategy and hit opponents with set up combos to freeze and steal early in the fight so you can pummel them easier!

Also thirding that autoselect is an absolute savior. Sometimes it takes some creativity to order your sets just they way you want, but longer battlers are so much easier with it on. (Assuming that the lag doesn't stop you.)
