Pet job promotions are manual. Your pet can remain a Test Subject forever if you'd like to keep them that way. c:
From the Job Agency page, you have to click your pet's job to get more info on it. There's a link to "Request Promotion" on the job details page.
Regarding the HA face thing, yeah in the current version of the wardrobe facial features can't be removed. Dragging the base layer to the top to hide them is the only way to get around that now, so you can use other items instead of the defaults.
people's responses to your post were weird and then I saw my own name. It looked like I was giving a fill-in answer, which was odd considering that your questions were so different and went back and read your post again and saw that you have done major editing.
It's not part of the Rules that I can tell, but it's the style here to start a new topic. I think they enforced that at one time, but don't seem to do that now. At the time I remember them doing that, a post showed that it was Edited and when whether you wanted it to or not, and then for awhile editing a post wasn't possible at all.
Anyhow, this is Help & Questions where other new users come to find out stuff. Your original questions were good, and now someone who is shy or can't post yet can't find them and see the answers. They may also think we're all crazy. Okay, crazier than we are.
800k-900k IDs are still pretty common and they show up in the pound maybe at least once a day. Even though they are on the higher end of collected IDs, they are still preferred because they are under 1 mill, so they go quickly.
If you find a pet in the pound with _### after their name and their ID is under 1 mill, that's even more coveted. This means the pet's name was changed while the owner was away, and so they come with a free name change. (Occasionally you'll see "fake" free-name-change pets in the pound, created either by trolls or by people who are terrible at coming up with names, but usually if you see a name followed by an underscore and three numbers, it's got a free name change.)
500k-700k IDs are a little less common but not unheard of. Sometimes you'll find one in the pound, but you're more likely to find one UFA. Keep in mind that when you find a pet with a low ID, you're likely going to have a lot of competition from others who also collect pets with low IDs, so you'll want to make the best impression when applying. (Whatever the best impression is varies per owner.)
100k-400k IDs are pretty rare. I'm racking my brain to think of the last time I saw one. Actually my pet Wove has a 400k ID, and I adopted her from another user. Basically all I said for the 500k-700k bracket applies here, except on steroids.
Under 100k IDs are in effect priceless. They're like those flying pigs you hear so much about but never see. I've encountered three in the pound in the last few years, and those were all five digits. Getting something less than five digits would be even rarer than flying pigs. So rare I can't even think of a good analogy. If you ever find one UFA, good luck.
Training is a good start, but if you want specific stats, you're going to have to start battling. When you battle, you get something called EXP which you can then exchange for stats, so you can have specific amounts. There are also leeches, available in the Battle Shop in the medium section, which will take away stats, two at a time, if you go over your target. Various other items (called stat boosters) can give and take stats in somewhat unpredictable amounts. The hardest thing to do is get rid of levels. You can try with the zapper; otherwise there is one item that costs around ~40 mill that will reliably take away levels.
Keep in mind that collecting income from a job may give you a stat boost. If you want the stats to remain even, you may have to stop collecting income for that pet.
Thank you again! I'll keep hold of those guides for the future.
It seems I have a better chance of getting older pets than I thought, as long as I'm patient.
I've seen talk of "applying" for pets before. Is this a WTA situation? I've been looking through the adoption forum and don't see much discussion of what's expected in an application.
I don't know what WTA stands for, but basically each owner can decide what they want for an application, and each applicant can decide what they want to provide.
Typically applications are just posted on the board, although some shy people might smail their application to the owner. Some owners will specify if they want board-only applications. (When I've had pets UFA, I personally prefer board-only, as it keeps them all in one place and doesn't clog up my inbox.)
Sometimes owners want to look at your current pets and see how much you've already done with them. Some want to know why you want the pet (if you have a character or story in mind, for example). Others really don't care and all you have to do is be the first person to post that you want them, and that's that.
There is [topic not found] that is somewhat followed, but some of the "rules" are more like "strong suggestions". For example, it's nicer when people put some form of "Lock - adopted" in their subject so that can lock the thread and you don't accidentally click on one that is no longer active, but it doesn't always happen. And it's nicer when people list the pet's name, color and species (and other information), but this isn't always followed either. But neither of these faux pas would get people in trouble like trying to sell a pet or offering someone else's pet up for adoption.
Also be forewarned that some people ghost on the adoptions. It makes sense - after all, many adopt out their pets when they realize they're too busy to spend time on Subeta, and then they become too busy to do the adopting out. Others don't realize just how popular their pet names/IDs will be and they become overwhelmed with the task of trying to adopt them out. For the most part, people don't ghost, but just keep in mind that it happens every now and then.
[Edit] If you plan on changing anything about the pet, it is customary in your application to let the owner know (unless it's one of those first-come-first-serve situations). This includes name, gender, species, and color changes. Of course the owner can't stop you from making changes once you have the pet, but it's better to be upfront about it, especially if this is something that they care about.
^_^ Thank you, that makes perfect sense.
Also, WTA stands for "write to adopt", basically meaning you have to have some kind of story/plot written out before the owner will give the pet away. I mostly see it in the premade art/adopt community, but that has a lot of overlap with petsites.
None of my pets are in a decent state right now so I'll wait until I have a more presentable lair before asking about newer pets.
Thanks for all the advice, you've been super helpful. (Does Subeta have a karma system? Can I reward you for your helpfulness?)
Ah, I see. Some people do write out little character bios or plots in applying for a pet, especially when the pet is quite popular. If there are many people applying for the same pet, a good character outline can really help you stand out.
Some people, like me, only apply for pets that spark our imagination, so we're only applying because we have character ideas anyway. I've had problems before with running out of characters just trying to describe my pet's imagined character - I'm not sure if I've just been extra wordy or if they've upped the character limit recently, because 65000 seems like a lot!
But they're not required.
As for karma, there is the like post button that doesn't work on mobile and doesn't really mean anything but which is nice. There's also the gift center located in Arctic Frost. But please don't send me a gift - I'm only mentioning it for your future reference. I'm happy to help. :)
I'll bear this in mind. Thank you.
Also, I'm not just arbitrarily collecting old pets (admittedly, I do do that on some sites) - I'm specifically looking for pets born around the same time as Leare, and if I'm very lucky at least one born before him, as I have a plotline planned that requires a few pets to have discovered him not long after his listed date of birth.
this is another fill-in answer, was pretty thorough. The like avatar and like post buttons are below your HA on the forums. They are the two grey hearts with 'avatar' and 'post (0) after them. When you click them they turn a soft pink.
The like post button only works for the thread you are in and there's no cumulative score anywhere and nobody will know it has been done unless they come back and look. They're kinda pointless.
I dunno what other sites are like. Those of us who are here, we all hang out here in Help & Questions because we like to. My own opinion about karma is 'my answers are usually fill-ins and not necessarily what you wanted but you did ask' and 'pay this help forward to the next user who needs help'.
Won't go to the trouble of pinging Solsticesprite, but I am grateful for their help.
I've been getting a lot of notifications about achievements lately. Often, I'll be told I've earned exactly the same achievement exactly three times. But, when I view my achievements and select "earned", I'm told there's nothing there.
They are tiered achievements. Example: Leave a Comment goes up to 100 total comments, but you get achievements for the first comment, 5, then 25, 50 and 100. The "alert" you get reads the same no matter if its your first or 100th comment. The "Leave a Comment" achievement won't show as an "earned" achievement until you have earned the final tier.
I've even "earned" achievements I've definitely not qualified for, and from what I can see might be missing achievements I do qualify for. Is the whole system broken right now? There are definitely issues with the achievement system. You can read up and/or post in the bugs forum. Or ask here about specific achievements.
I can't find a link to the quest page anywhere. But the actual quests? Can't find them. How strange that I've never noticed this lack. You can find the quests here. You can find questers on the map - in the main menu choose Subeta->explore, then click on any area and look for a person's name. What I do is I have added the Quest widget to the dashboard, via Personal->customize sidebar, then choose the widgets you want.
On a similar note, I've seen reference to a batthhouse, and how it's good to go there every day (daily freebie I think?). I can't find the bathhouse itself anywhere either. Bathhouse, to find it go to the explore map, choose, Shengui Guo, then bathhouse. To build up to nicer prizes, you need to go every day. I have the bathhouse set as my browser home page so I automatically go every time I start up my browser.
Which pages should I bookmark (and can you please link me directly to them)? Dailies Page News page Explore Map Visit the explore map, look around, bookmark interesting stuff as you come across it.
Which sidebar sections should I enable? (Currently have navigation, username, and currency)? What do you like? I've already recommended Quests. I also have Oracle (because I often miss the random event itself). Notepad, because I'm forever making notes. Coda Caves, because its a limited time and I need the reminder. Shop search.
Is there an optimal site theme/userstyle to aid navigation? Not that I've ever found/noticed.
Can a pet uneat a food or unread a book, or am I just stuck with off-flavour stats forever? No, you're stuck with it. There have been suggestions regarding this, add your support!
Some folks on the forums have their pet's avatar beside their post. Some don't. I don't. How do I turn that on? This is a Gold Account feature-if you look at people with it, their symbol should be gold rather than blue.
Oh and on the subject of acceptable content: You may have noticed my avatar is a tad crude (what else was I supposed to do with that crotch-snake? Seriously?). I had planned to turn it into an even cruder joke still (and still will, if I can get the items I need) but....while these items do exist on site and are presumably okay by that measure, would I be better off abandoning the idea? I notice swearing is okay within reason, and certain sexual references are also cool...but how far does that go? The rules are uncomfortably vague. Can I openly make vore jokes, for example? Caveate to this answer - staff judges, not users, so the only way to be completely certain on what's acceptable what isn't, is to submit a ticket. That said general info follows: There have been "penis" joke HAs in the past (a certain item that basically looked like a naked penis when layered inappropriately), so pretty sure anything goes. For edgier stuff like vore jokes, I would wait and read the forums a bit more, see what other people do/ have done. I mean we've had events were organs were cut out of bodies and human body part foods for our pets, so....
Finally, I've found the wardrobe a delightful passtime, but I'm making a lot of oufits I'll never wear (because money, mainly). Is there somewhere on my profile I can display these (like a collection) or should I just start a forum thread? You make your own profile section, save images of the HAs you create, but there is no specific section to do this automatically. A forum thread could be fun!

You are welcome.
About Achievements you've met the requirements for, many of them aren't broken ...exactly. They need to be triggered. You either need to visit the Achievement again and look at the requirements, or go to the section they are for like the Wardrobe or Armory or Foods Eaten. Or they have a weird cache delay and will show up an hour later. Or they're broken, as sometimes happens, but not so many lately, most of the errors in Achievements I have seen are getting unearned ones.
Widgets have been deprecated and we've been told they're going bye-bye. That was one of the impetuses for the Dailies Page to be created. Those of us who have been here awhile we know that and know where to look, but oooopsy! My favorite widget that I will miss will be the Melody one, because otherwise I forget to go everyday.
owned a number of virtual pet/explore websites, and one of those now defunct ones was called Neurogalaxy. Neurogalaxy required you to explore around on the map and Subeta shares that. Have you found the Lower West Side yet?
There are several places to go in the Bathhouse.
FWIW I have worn these HAs: Outfit Not Found Outfit Not Found Outfit Not Found Outfit Not Found
Ahh, thank you! I've got a load of bookmarks (and a lot of money, I just did all the quests) so it should be easier to navigate the site now.
There are certain lines I won't cross in terms of adult content, but I'll err on the side of caution anyway until I've learned the culture. At least I know crude outfits are fine. ;)
When I feel I've got enough outfits to show off (crude or otherwise) I'll put some time into neatly displaying them.
Thanks for all your help!
One last question while I'm here: I just hit my inventory limit and shoved everything into pets/collections/shops. Is 100 a hard limit or can I buy more space at some point?
EDIT: Those outfits are incredible, thanks for sharing. I can do a lot of fun things with certain items, I think.
I'll try not to get too reliant on te sidebar, then. I assume they're actually improving navigation and not just killing them with no recourse?
Thank you! If you look at them in your Wardrobe, you can see it's expensive to be that naked. :) The cheapest pieces are in GoOutside.
You can rent more space, 250 is a benefit of having a Gold Account active. It's the main reason I keep one going at all times, because Subeta is item-intensive.
If they dump the widgets without replacement or improvement, there will be much screaming and gnashing of teeth.
You're welcome.
As said, this site is very item intensive. Try to keep on top of it. There is limited space in shops/galleries. The vault is technically unlimited space, but realistically, if you stuff it too full it starts to lag a lot and you can have trouble getting in to sort out your items.
To get rid of items you don't need, the fragmentizer is helpful, as is, of course, selling stuff to other users via your shops.

Thank you both, I've thrown a load of junk items into the fragmentiser (at least, I think they were junk, they had a really low value and either apparel I had no intention of ever wearing, or, no apparent function)
I just looked at the prices, and premium isn't as expensive as I expected. It might be a good idea.
