-- thanks! :D I have a lot of your stuff, it'll be super great :)

No prob! Thanks for sharing your take on it! Also btw, I edited my previous comment with additional text, you might not have seen it.
:)

I admit, I have a CW bodymod item that uses the pale base (the Dove Kimono in my signature) and a pale-base blush I'm likely going to to a dark-base-friendly recolour of. When I drew the kimono, I was going to make the hands transparent at first. But then I realised the chest shading, lines, and cleavage that would be visible through them made the hands look very strange. And I couldn't cover them with the sleeves because the gesture was the most important part. Sometimes transparent cut-out arms and hands don't work when you want something to be layered under them, which would mean you now have a blue hand with a print or whatever.
If recolours were cheaper, I'd be more inclined to do more versions of the kimono, but right now it's either use up all my CSC and get it back 200 CSC at a time or go through the stress and bother of slotting again.
It's a shame that poses are so limited because of the skintone issue. Transparent hands are a great workaround, but like you said, it's impossible sometimes because of the lineart or shading on the base. It would be so handy if we had the option for transformable items - so all skintones could be made/submitted together, and buyers could choose which one they preferred using.
I also wouldn't say no to cheaper recolors, hahaha! But I think that ultimately, even WITH cheaper recolors, it would still be difficult to get 4-5 slots for each skintone of a single item. I think have a transformable option for body mods would for sure be the most convenient/achievable method.
