I know this will probably grind some people's gears on here, but I think it needs to be addressed. You can agree or disagree, just state your views with peace and civility is all I can ask.
We are living in a world where language is being policed to extremes, where debates are no longer civil, where offense and feelings dominate over reality and facts, and people are being harassed for their difference of opinion to extremes. It is a sad world when people, who are on either sides of this pointless political spectrum, feel the need to physically harm others, harass them in public or dox them.
These extremes are causing us to tear each other apart when we should be finding commonality with one another. We live in a world where everyone is slowly losing their individual personalities, their own thoughts, their beliefs, and their humanity… we are all slowly becoming apathetic and I am worried for the future of mankind.
When I started on subeta I saw a petsite that offered a very open and beautiful world to explore. No matter who you were, no matter your struggles, you could find some light to enjoy in this dark cyberspace. You could be alt-left, liberal, moderate-left, centrist, moderate-right, conservative and even alt-right and still be able to live in peace with other users despite the difference of views. Why has this changed? Why do we crowd around these political parties that have huge cults of personalities?
I think the creator of this site had great intentions of bringing people together so that all walks of life could be talked about and treated with the true fairness that we no longer see in the world.
Some users feel that others should be blocked or banned just for difference of thought or opinion. I feel this attitude doesn’t actually solve the scope of the problem and instead makes it far worse. I have seen people be bullied for their opinions, harassed, talked about on other social media sites, and more. Is this really the world you all want to live in? Is this the best that we can be as a species?
I believe that others have a right to speak their minds regardless of whether it follows “mainstream” or not. People bring up the strawman attempt at policing language when they say “well, you can’t shout fire in a theater without facing consequences”. I don’t believe this is a fair argument (you can give your thoughts on this).
Labeling people bigots, racists, transphobes, homophobes, and any other negative label doesn’t open the conversation, it silences it or worse creates passive-aggression. Others choose to throw their degrees around without actually opening a conversation. Some claim science as their god and fail to acknowledge the limitations and bias within even this structure. Science is great but definitely not perfect.
Many have failed to realize the limitations of modern science and other fields of thought with the current political sphere infesting all thought. Yes, I do mean infesting. Science is driven by profit, many studies and results are being silenced or defunded, and yet people wish to be lead by experts without thinking for themselves.
It doesn’t take a college degree to become knowledgeable in a subject. It takes drive and willingness to learn. Anyone can become an expert in a subject without a college degree. All you need to do is read five to ten books in one subject and you will already know more than the average person. Read a hundred or more and you become an expert.
College degrees simply give you either a legalized right to practice/apply your skills (if you learned any), work in a particular profession or for boasting privileges to either belittle others with condescension or pat your ego (sadly, many so called experts do this nowadays). Knowledge was meant to help and heal the world regardless of scientific outcomes, not harm and pit people against each other.
I have lived in three different countries. Two of which would have LGB people harmed or have laws against LGB propaganda. As a bisexual person, I understood the risks and limitations of living in those countries. But it is fun learning about the different views and cultures in the world and even though I was physically harmed in some situations, I didn’t fault those people. Not because I was weak, but because I felt forgiveness was stronger than hate.
These experiences have taught me many things. It has shown just how valuable freedom of speech, freedom of belief, freedom of privacy, and the freedom to bear arms really is and why we should never turn our backs on those rights!
All I can ask, is even if you disagree with me or hate me, just know that I don’t hate you and I never will. I simply try to look at the long-term good and bad, as well as the full scope of each topic, not just the feelings. This has lead many people to get the wrong impression of me. Either because they misinterpret what I said through their own perspective, allowed their emotions to make their choices, or dislike the difference of thought so much that any sight of it repulses them.
For those who labeled me as a transphobe, I will clarify once and for all. My views are similar to the beliefs of Miss. Blair White when it comes to this topic, I respect her as both a transwomen and as a person. I may not agree with all that she says on other topics, but she makes very valid points in regards to trans issues. To clarify one person’s wrongful assumption of my transmale friend, my friend requested that their pronouns were to be “him, he, them, and they”.
I admit, I should have picked a better time, but sometimes certain issues do have to be brought to light in their entirety. Acceptance is only the first step, we have to look beyond that. I choose to love people for more than just a sexuality, gender, or the identity they make for themselves, because I choose to see the whole person and not their fragments.
I see the world from multiple perspectives, not just the victims and perpetrators. Black and white thinking will not get you very far folks, but I wish you the best regardless. I respect your difference of opinion and I am glad to hear out anyone who wishes to have a deep discussion about the world, their views, and are open to debate without hostility in their hearts.
With love and hope.
Sincerely,
Owl

Politics and real world issues can be very hairy subjects. Emotions tend to run high, as does conflict. Up until a few years ago, Subeta had a debate forum where users were allowed to discuss these subjects. The problem is that the discussions tended not to stay civil and would spiral out of control. As a result, that forum was eventually removed and debates were banned from the forums. Subeta strives to be a safe space for everyone, and it was decided that this site was simply not the place for such debates. It's not that Subeta is trying to stifle opinions. Quite the opposite! We're just trying to make this a nice place for everyone, and sometimes people say hurtful things while trying to say their piece. That is not okay, whether it is deliberate or not.
With that said, I am going to have to lock this. You are welcome to take your debates to other sites, but it is not appropriate for Subeta forums.
