Love these suggestions!! I would love to see more love put into forum groups since I think they're a pretty integral part of how a lot of folks participate in the forums.
Two ideas I've been thinking about lately:
Firstly, I'd really like to be able to favorite certain groups that I'm in so that they're easier to find on the forum group page. When you're in 400+ groups, it can be a little difficult to find a specific groups you frequent, such as my own CW group or cult-like groups. It would be nice to be able to favorite the groups I use the most and have them visible at the top of the your groups page (or maybe a separate favorite groups page?) for easy access. Sure, it's as simple as hitting Ctrl + F and searching for what I'm looking for, but I can't always remember the names of things. :(
I think it would also be pretty handy to be able to create admin restricted subforums in a particular group. It could be handy to use to talk about admin things (tracking bank use, planning forum group events, etc.) or preview posts. I currently use an entirely separate ping group with just myself in it to preview event posts in a forum group I'm in. : ' (
I second the Favorite-ing idea. I have dropped some Forum Groups I really would have liked to remain in even though they weren't all that active because it became to unwieldy even with the Search feature.
Added the favorite groups suggestion to the first post!
Unless my brain went all fuzzy and I missed something, your second suggestion is already in the first post under Limit custom forum access. I'll change the title of that section a bit so it's clearer what it's about at first glance.
@/Frost Maybe I'm blind and this is already a thing, but I would like to have the ability to send group invites to other people regardless if my group is public or not, especially since the search function isn't the best right now. I assume that right now it might for private groups only, but I would love to invite people to my public group too.
With the current unchanged system, you can't have a private group. I've gone and snooped around the options both for creating a new forum group and editing an existing one and I haven't spotted any options to make the group private. You can set it to invite-only and afaik you can invite anyone? idk about inviting blocked people, I don't want to test it (but that should be disabled by default if it isn't already).
:'| If you meant something else and I misunderstood, I'm sorry. It's been a tiring week here and brain is failing to keep up.
I meant invite only. I don't know why I was thinking private.
With the current system, I would have to toggle invite-only on and off (if that's possible? I deleted my other group, so I don't want to test it). It would still be nice to not have to do that, but it can be a low priority suggestion since it's not a big deal.
If you're the owner, you can toggle joining permissions however you see fit, yes.
But I think I see what you mean. You'd like the ability to invite a user regardless if your group is set to friends-only, open to all or closed to all, yes? So if you own a private CW group, you can invite someone without having to bother with changing settings, inviting, waiting for them to accept (idk if the invite cancels if you set the group to closed), then changing settings back.
I'll add it to the first post then! :D Maybe with a toggle in site options to disable receiving group invitations, or a limit to how many invites you can send in a day.
I would LOVE group item banks to be implemented properly. For the longest time, I wanted to try and make an origami cult with a member-exclusive shop. Then when the cult system was abolished in favor of the new forum system, I thought I could do it from there. I was always puzzled and dismayed at the lack of functionality for sharing items within a forum group.
I made a new suggestion for forum groups, not sure if you want to add it to this post. Forum group - subgroups

Oof, sorry it took me a dog's age to get it, but it's done. Linked and added to the first post! :D
Looks good. LOL way easier to link to the topic than try to make a synopsis of it :).

😂 Ohyep! Well, that, and my brain is running on fumes. Can't even begin to form a tl;dr of the subgroups because English is hard right now.
Yes please to all of these!
Also, have a confirmation for leaving a group or move that button further away from "View All Members." I left my main group by accident on mobile in the past.

Added your suggestion to the first post!
It is a little odd that there's no confirmation for leaving a group. Though considering how heavily people depend on forum groups for so many things, an option to set it to require your PIN might not be bad either but that might also just be me being paranoid. :P
Adding my support to basically all the items listed in the first post, but most especially the organizing suggestions and the ability to select group favorites! It's difficult to see the trees for the forest when viewing the Your Groups page, and hard to keep track of which groups you personally own without going through the whole list to find them.
As for my own suggestions, increasing the limit of groups you can own from 5 to 10 (or more!) is my newest suggestion for forum groups.
I saw your topic in site feedback, so I added both that suggestion & the one about clearly listing how many groups you can own to the first post. Thank you for mentioning them! c:
I do hope they'll at least consider increasing the limit, out of all these suggestions. I'm kind of dreading survival now that the limit has thrown a hell of a wrench into the super useful biting group system. :/
Good call, thank you! and I also discussed how if there are any additional forum group rules other than the limit, that they are not listed on the Forum Groups page, and are thus easy to miss.
I hope so too! After reading some of the responses there, I realized just how useful groups are even beyond what I personally use them for - and I already thought they were pretty useful! I hope staff will reconsider how they're treated.
