Yeah, they give anywhere between 0 and 3 points. They're not really sustainable until you can beat all BQs everyday.
thank you for the help! Having packed on 100 HP to reach the giddy heights of 1760, Flufftoes can now usually beat Mornrise Serpent in BQ, sometimes Saggitarius, and even once General Error. Got my five against Mathis, too! :D

I feel like I'm finally making a bit of progress! I can defeat some of the opponents in the 'hard' range now. It was a good day if I could get to 10 in battle quests and now I can go a little beyond that.
My little routine can reliably get me though BQ15, but I hit that wall at Very Hard.

Yep, I have them going in the Training Center. By not training, your pet will grow slower so I wouldn’t recommend skipping it.
BQs have a wall every 5 quests when the difficulty goes up. It’s normal for you to be stuck at 15 while waiting for your stats/tier to grow. You may not reliably reach level 20 until around T7.

Wooo, finally got round to sorting out my strategy for getting to 50 so I can make (not that I'll ever use it, it has weird stats)
do you have any advice on how and where to apply crystals? (I just started breaking through BQ16 and some days can get up to being clobbered by 20 so I figured it was time to stop ignoring mods)
As a starting point, I think I'd buy your recommendations, and stick the Baguettes (Parched and Singed) on the bombs and OPB I throw in the first couple rounds, and put the Tears (Blessing and Critical) on the regular IU attackers I (generally) use for a few rounds? Is that like... how to use them?
And then I can forget about them whilst they just chug along keeping my weapons slightly more dangerous?
Yep, that looks like a sound strategy to me :D There really there isn't a 'wrong' way to do crystals so I wouldn't overthink it, there are just slightly more optimal ways of using them depending on your opponent.
Do you know if any of the power up potions in the easy section in the battle shop better than the others or are they equally the same and just target different stats?
The latter is true; they all give an equal amount of stats, each one just gives you a different target stat.

to me though i'd probably buy mostly endurance potions then since health is most expensive with exp
