I have all four vial strains so I can bite for all of them. The vials mature to skins faster than all the others I think one group would be enough for all four and each person could just post the vial that they want

voting has ended (with a respectable 54% turnout) and results are in! The clear winner is Custom Ping Names at 48% of the votes with the runners-up (First Ten Letters) trailing at 26% and (NVLB+First Six) 15%.

With apologies to the two who voted "I don't like this idea in the first place" - is there anything I can do to alleviate your concerns before we start? (You may message me privately, if you prefer?)

"boobitis" is really hard to abbreviate clearly... and I don't want to take the strain names themselves, as people like to use them for community groups! if there's real concern that people won't use it like that, I could make it "bbitisbite" or "boobitisme" but those look like random gibberish :(

another option for barnankles: banklsbite or b-anklbite? if you wanted that first 'b' in there? (i just think of cankles hehehe unrelated) i personally like the carchbites, feverbites and mole-bites because they're more like the name for the strain, and not just what the final skins look like, so they're more consistent with the rest of the list. on that note, maybe something like mfuertbite for muerte fuerte - so it's also consistent with 'bite' on the end?

and if i may ask, are we staying away from using the whole strain name (like how we're going with #"strain"bites now instead of #"strainname") just because there were some already taken? or to make it clear that they're groups for biting? edit: ah nvm you already confirmed this ^^

lol waffle away, as long as you have plenty of maple syrup! and hey, i mean, i love ravens (i have plans for a raven tattoo, just not the design yet), so i'm also torn, but i think it does make sense to keep it consistent c: hah can you believe i only just translated muerte fuerte (i know nil Spanish lol) and yes, fuertebite sounds fine XD

: I agree re: vials, but there seemed to be some immediate objections. Willing to give the group ping a try, though: it's a much smaller group than one ping for all the strains, and I can always split it up after next Survival if it seems to need it. There's always the slim chance (touch wood!) this all burns down in the first hour of Survival anyway and we have to put up The Big List after all...

The only reason I even listed an alternative was in case we needed to specify which pings were for bites, and which for group information (so you could subscribe and manage notifications separately), but if that's not a concern, we needn't complicate it.

If it starts to be like "omg stop pinging the whole group all the time" I can just make the backup ping at a later date.

I've been dealing with a mega amount of things & health in RL, so I haven't been able to comment much.

For myself, I'd go with the least amount of letters and recognizable so we can easily identify what strain is being asked. As a biter, I don't want to search the wardrobe skins long, I just want to go in alphabetically and get the skin on ASAP and start biting.

For the boobitis one... boobite.

it does boo (instead of boob, but the b-ite finishes the other b), pronounced boo bite and not boob ite.

the least amount of letters also means less chance of spelling mistakes, 2-5 max ideally before bite

Some that have similar letters added one or less to help make distinction (e.g. Angl & Ant)

For some that have the same first name (e.g. Death), just the 1st letter to easily find name alphabetically and then different letters to differentiate which is which.

The basic concept is that you need just enough letters to quickly find it in the skin wardrobes, which are in alphabetical order. But... the more letters the more chances of spelling mistakes so shorter is more practical.

I'd do a separate group for NVLB people needing to be bitten because NVLB is a discussion group whereas NVLB bite would be a specific bite request. If I don't have time to discuss, I ignore & wait for a time I can... whereas if I get a ping for biting I'll answer if I have the time to bite (fewer issues with reading disability).
